First, I want to thank the Association for inviting me to judge for them at this prestigious show. Secondly, I want to thank the exhibitors for trusting me with their dogs and for an excellent entry of 82. I felt almost emotional when I entered the ring, thinking back at all the years Kari and I spent with all our Dachshund friends. We had 10 lovely years with our Miniature Wire Dachshunds, made up 12 champions and we have a lot of good memories.

I had a brilliant steward and I want to tank her for keeping me straight all through my judging
I thought the overall quality of the dogs shown under me were good, but some were too big. Other were too long and a few were both. Construction and movements were generally good, but the head quality could have been better. Some were too broad in scull and lacking sufficient length. Others had a weak underjaw. Eyes and expression were good, not many light eyes. It was encouraging to see so many excellent dogs in the puppy classes.
Minor Puppy Dogs
1 Russell & Hutchings, Ms J & Mr A, Collidach Russel Leeves, Very promising 6 months old puppy which could go a long way. He has a fabulous head, is well constructed and moves like a train.
2 Kilby, Mr T, Fenwires Highland Dancer, Another first-class puppy with an interesting future. He was pushing Russel Leeves hard, but I preferred the quarters on the winner.
Puppy Dog
1 Moore & dean, Mrs A & Mrs J, Upror vov Huberhorn with Dierfiur (imp ROM). This is a fabulous young hunter which ticks all the right boxes. He is of the right size and his outline is to die for. The arched neck is fitting nicely into perfect shoulders and the line runs smoothly through his strong topline towards a long and slightly sloping croup. It was a pleasure to see this gentleman move freely around the ring with excellent drive. He does need to improve a bit coming towards you, but that will probably come with maturity. If it does, this dog will be difficult to beat. I could have taken him home. Interesting to see that he is a son of my BOB. BP
Junior Dog
1 M Jones & Bates, Derochaise Blue Danube Beautifully headed dog of Excellent type. He has a superb outline, and he stands and moves very well
2 Adams, Mrs L, Ellesophia Fly Me TO the Moon. Quality dog which pushed hard, but I preferred the topline on the winner.
Yearling Dog
1 Ellesophia Fly Me To the Moon
2 Best, Mrs J, Stanegate Set Em Up Joe for Bestina. Quality dog all through, but on the big side
Post Graduate Dog
1 Sanders, Mrs L, Just Lennys Coc Chips by Knottsrose. A dog of very good type which is well constructed. Stands and moves well.
2 Mountford Mrs M, Incordemeo Beetle About. Nice dog which could have won the class if the handler had managed to get him to stand right at the right time. He is lovely on the move.
Limit Dog
1 Ord & Ainsley, Mr M & Mr P, Cloudside Sebastian of Marnadee. Top class dog of excellent type. He has a great outline and his stands well on his feet. His front construction is superb with a strong breastbone and a prominent keel. It was a pleasure to see this stallion move because his movements were free and flowing. RCC
2 Hutchings & Price, A & N, Collidach Percy Cute at Samlane. This was a big quality dog which was trying had. He is very well constructed, but a bit long. He moved very well, but in the end, I preferred Sebastian’s proportions.
Open Dog
1 Vlad, Ms A M, Megline British Tobacco. When this dog entered, it was like sunrise because this dog brought light to the ring. He showed like a professional athlete, and he was full of self-confidence. He told me clearly that he was the best, which he was. He had the head I was looking for which he carried proudly on a slightly arched neck, running in graceful lines into his shoulders. The more I looked at this dog the more I liked him. Yes, his tail carriage was a bit high, but that was easy to forgive because everything else about the day’s King was close to perfect. I had no hesitation about giving him the CC and BOB.
2 Carruthers, Mrs J L, Ch Akton Alexander at Stanegate. This is a top-quality dog which was unlucky to meet British Tobacco in such great form. Alexander was missing the enthusiasm which was the winner’s strength.
Veteran Dog
1 Coverley, Mrs L J, Ch/Ir Ch Aventine Jamaica Inn. Grandfather in excellent form for age. He stands and moves like a youngster. BVet
2 Moore & Downes, Mrs A & Miss L, Ch Megline Aramis. Here we go again with another champion veteran. He stands and moves well. But I preferred the proportions on the winner.
Minor Puppy Bitch
1 Hutchings, Mrs F, Collidach Raynee Day. Very promising puppy of high class with a wonderful head. I absolutely loved her.
2 Graham, Mrs JA &Mr A Boloria Wild Spice. Another promising youngster which pushed hard. I did, however, prefer the topline on the winner.
Puppy Bitch
1 Rowe, Mrs L, Boloria Sugar’n Spice. Very promising bitch of high class. She has a lovely head and superb feet. Stands and moves very well.
2 Vine, Mrs R, Cishelvine Cassandra. Another lovely puppy with an excellent head, neck, and front. She was close to the winner, but I would have liked to see her in better condition.
Junior Bitch
1 Cox, Mrs J & Mr G, Hopewood Que Sera Sera Avec Bulldaxit. Beautiful bitch of excellent type. She is well constructed and she moves and stands well.
2 Beagrie, Mrs AJ & Mr A, Ellesophia Light The Way To Feldhund. Another top class bitch which is well constructed, but I preferred the winners attitude and temperament.
Yearling Bitch
1 Coverley, Mrs L J, Aventine Aunt Patience. Superb bitch of excellent type. She has the right outline and she moved and stood very well
2 WALLER Lady in Roseyred It’s a lot to like about this quality bitch, but I preferred the hindquarters on the winner.
Post Graduate Bitch
1 Philips, Mrs V, Tendrow What I am I am. Nice quality bitch of excellent type. She is well constructed, and she moved well.
2 Mountford Mrs M, Incordemeo My Story. Close to the winner in type and quality, but I preferred the head on the winner.
Limit Bitch
1 Hanney-Mitchell, Mrs F & Maccalmont, Mrs K D & Kr D C. Silvae Time after Time at Bronia. This bitch was all for me even if she was on the big side. She had a lovely head and a superb outline. Her keel was prominent with a strong breastbone and her ribbing went well back. She had strong hindquarters with superb angulations. Time after Time also had the right proportions and the correct ground clearance. As if this wasn’t enough, an explosion happened when she started moving because she was driving around as if she was taking part in a Formula 1 race. She was pushing for the top spot, but British Tobacco won because i preferred his shoulders. CC & BOS
2 Clayton-Smith, Mrs S J, Cairparavel Kiss From A Rose. Lovely bitch of excellent type which is well constructed. She moved quite well but I preferred the back end on the winner.
Open Bitch
1 Hutchings, Mrs F, Ch Collidach Brook Ling. Superb bitch of top class. Nice head, neck and topline with correct front and rear angulation. She moved well around the ring. You need a lot of superlatives to describe this beautiful bitch, but I would have liked to see her with a bit more ground clearance and that’s why she lost of on the CC. RCC
2 Maccalmont, Mrs K D & Mr D C, Ch Silvae Fan Dancer. This is another top-class bitch full of quality. She gave an excellent picture standing, but on the day, I would have liked her to show a bit more temperament so that’s why she lost out on the top spot.
Veteran Bitch
1 Seath, Mrs S, Nord Ch Gango Av Larshjelm (Imp Nor). Superb grandmother is excellent for age. Stands and moves well
