Thanks to the Midland Dachshund Club for the invitation to judge smooths at this show. I enjoyed it, much was due to my two excellent and e icient stewards who kept the ring moving and made my job so much easier thank you. I did feel that the heat a ected some more than others which could alter placings on another day. It was very hot at times in the ring as emphasized by the many tannoy reminders that dogs should not be left in cars. I have not judged smooths for some time so came with entirely new eyes. I found that for me many were heavier in front construction than I prefer with upright forward shoulders and short upper arms which, especially in profile did not present an attractive picture. This also a ects the ability to move freely. The standard calls for ‘moderately long in proportion to height with no exaggeration’. I look for a balanced dog with a touch of elegance which comes with a conical shaped head on a neck which flows into correctly placed shoulders and enough upper arm to give a free flowing movement with corresponding hind drive. Some also had less ribbing than I would like which gives a longer loin than is desirable in a long-bodied dog. Surprisingly in a show dog I found a number of dogs that could do with the use of a toothbrush there is no excuse for dirty teeth. That said I very happy with my overall winners and felt they could hold their own in any competition. V.D. 2(1) Heels Ch Daxanory Menacing Denis A well muscled dog that presented with a correct outline which he held at all times . True sound movement both fore and aft. B.V. Dark red with some of the best front construction today topped with good head and lovely almond eyes. Very sound on the move together with lovely breed type. Correct tight feet which in a digging breed is important. Res CC 2.P & J Dalton This puppy was obviously feeling the heat and therefore lacked a bit of enthusiasm today. Nice type of brindle who was obviously feeling the heat and lacking a bit of animation. Good overall type with balance and better ribbing than many. O.D. 7 (1) 1.Binks Ch Cedovach Ocean Storm Lovely red boy who moved out straight coming and going. Good head flowing into elegant neck and reasonable shoulder placement. Stark’s Ch Adnerbs Won Vision of Gobannium JW OSW VW 7 year-old red bitch with nice overall breed type who presented a good overall picture and moved out with good drive. MPB. 3. 1. McNaughton’s Cedovch Rainfall Excellent type of bitch my hands just flowed over her. Feminine head with lovely expression flowing into good neck and shoulders. Immature but immaturity is not a fault in a puppy. Correct structure allowed for her free flowing movement and drive. Later learned half-sister to my res dog CC with same sire. Will watch her progress with interest. Res CC BP.& BPIS 2. Mills Cedovach Squall full sister to class winner and very similar remarks just in a slightly larger mold. Felt class winner had the edge overall today. 3. Jennings. Clentry Sweet Melody. PB 2.1. Small’s Clentry Walking in Memphis Presented with reasonable overall picture and tidy movement moving evenly fore and aft. 2. Somerton’s Jackinorydax Gossip Gal. Tidy bitch with time on her side. Could strengthen in hind movement. J.B. 2. 1. Haggerty’s Milendo Dina. Black and tan bitch which took a while to adjust to the surface but once she did she moved out well . Preferred her overall balance and type. 2. Kerry’s Hampdach Belle Returns to Kireton. Larger type of bitch with longer second thigh which detracts from her profile movement.. PGB 8 (3). 1. Again correct head and expression with profile held on the move. 3. T & S Rycroft’s Raajut’s Dancer Diva with Trisensara. LB 10(2) 1. Ashby’s Rayol Pumpkin Pie at Jaxinorydax Lovely balanced bitch with excellent breed type. Sound profile movement and true both fore and aft. Prominent forechest without any exaggeration and better shoulder placement and ribbing. CC. 2. Rycroft’s Chidax Sahara Sand by Trisensara. Similar lighter red bitch with delightful happy temperament. Presented nice outline which she held on the move. 3.Higgin’s Empetthounds Galatians to Leveliss. OB.4. 1. Jennings Clentry Sweet Melody. Good overall breed type who held her outline at all times moving out with purpose. Reasonable shoulder placement and lovely tight feet.2. Andison’s Ch Clentry Forget Me Not bitch with excellent temperament and splitting hairs between her and winner. Nice type of bitch with lots to like.
