Many thanks to the Dachshund Club for a lovely day, for my super stewards and a lovely big ring. Thank you exhibitors for your lovely entry.  I last judged smooths in 2019 so almost all exhibits were new to me. Based on today’s entry I think smooths are not as strong as they once were. I found far too many very short upper arms, and very long loins in comparison to ribbing. I was also concerned about small flat front feet, lack of bone and some irregularly placed incisors and weak lower jaws – and some rather small teeth – dachshunds should always have strong jaws with large very clean teeth – it should not be remarkable to find these!  I found several with very tightly fitting lower canines, only one where the lower canines were impacting on the upper gum.. I found one bitch with fused tail vertebrae at the end of the tail. Many were rather nervous on the table but there was no aggression.

SBD (1,0)

1-Wanderhund Grand Illusion (Mrs K L Sandell) – pleasing shaded red, 15 months old, with good proportions, good eye, head, dentition, lacked a little in neck, would prefer longer upper arm and more layback of shoulder. Had a tendency to move close in front and a little unsettled behind, which improved as the day went on, better rib/loin ratio than most today which won him BSB

MPD (3,0) pleasing class, all 6 months old and very sound with good temperaments

1-Hampdach Force Awakens with Dovestream (Mrs D A Gaskin), very masculine red, lovely size and proportions although I would prefer a slightly longer leg, scored here in shoulder placement and ribbing/loin ratio and best feet in class, BPD

2-Hampdach Sharp Dressed Man (Miss C L Bethel) – preferred head on this b&t but rather longer in loin than winner, again a lovely size which placed him over his larger litter brother

3-Hampdach Fixin The Breeze (Miss L K & Mrs J C Macdonald)

PD (1,0)

1-Longmel Cointreau Truffle (Mrs F M Hinwood) – red with good hind angulation and excellent hind movement, lovely elegant head and neck, correct ground clearance but too long in loin so not as balanced as MPD winner, lacked length in upper arm which affected front movement

JD (1,1)

ND (0,0)

PGD (3,0)

1-Scipsar Just Give Me A Reason (Mrs J & Mrs P Halsall & Hughes) – red brindle, very honest dog, liked his profile and very sound movement, excellent proportions, rather plain head but excellent dentition, reasonable angulation both ends, in very good condition and  held his shape on the move better than

2 – W. Grand Illusion – scored here on condition, ground clearance and rib/loin ratio

3 - Daxanory Menacing Awesome (Miss K J Heels)

LD (7,0} disappointing to find so any dogs unhappy on the table in this class – and some very long loins

1- Longmel Courvoisier Truffle (Mrs F M Hinwood)  2yo red with very pleasing proportions and free flowing movement, good head and eye – would ideally like him to have more upper arm but best balanced, and best ribbing in class, reasonable hind angulation and good ground clearance which won him the RCC

2 - Adnerb Sheer Nanagins at Longmel (Mrs F M Hinwood) slightly heavier b&t 5yo with ideal proportions and good movement – would just prefer more ground clearance. Scored on rib/loin ratio over

3 - Hampdach Lord Flashheart (Miss C L Bethel)

OD (8,1)

1 - Cedavoch Ocean Storm (Miss A Binks), 4yo red – super size, lovely proportions, sound free mover with no exaggerations, excellent temperament, better layback of shoulder and upper arm than most, good rib/loin ratio and good hind angulation, loved him,no hesitation in awarding him best dog, CC, delighted to hear this made him up

2 - Ch Daxanory Menacing Dennis (Miss K J Heels) – 6.5 year old red, again a lovely size with good proportions and a really positive mover, also scored in upper arm and rib/loin ratio, just too deep in ribbing for me, seriously considered for RCC but lost out on ground clearance. Scored in front movement over

3 - Jacksondax Hornet Hurrah at Trisensara JW ShCEx OSW (Mrs S J Rycroft) another lovely size with good proportions

VD (2,1)

1 - Don Pedro Ii Das Terras Do Cannis Lupus (Mr R Macdonald) – 7.5 yo who looks older but a lovely size with better rib/loin ratio than most and lovely clean correct teeth. Poor pigmentation and moving rather reluctantly today

 BPD (4,0)

The idea of Baby Puppy classes is surely to let puppies experience the show atmosphere at an impressionable age so they grow up enjoying showing. I was surprised and quite upset to see an exhibitor handle her baby puppies rather harshly.

1 - Fredanna Moonlight Cyprus at Hamoura (Mrs W Starkey) – 5 mth b&t, loads of substance, would like a little more ribbing and hind angulation, masculine head and promising front, lovely temperament and sympathetically handled, BBP

2 - Tramardachs Spend A Buck (Mrs T Lucas) – 4 mth red, very immature but very promising and tried very hard being sympathetically shown by someone he had only just met, scored in temperament over his equally promising litter brother

3 - Tramardachs Gallant Fox (Mrs T Lucas)

BPB (1,0)

1 - Tramardachs Holy Trinity (Mrs T Lucas) – 4 mth red, litter sister to 2, 3 & 4 in BPD class – same lovely make and shape although would prefer a stronger jaw even at this stage, very immature and sadly very overawed at her first day out

SBB (2,0)

1 - Madrebambino Slinky Gal at Skipsar (Mrs K Turton) – 2 yo b&t, good for size, sound, moved well both ways, good ground clearance, carrying a little too much weight, would prefer more length to upper arm, more hind angulation and a stronger jaw, well handled,

MPB (2,0) – 2 lovely tempered b&t bitches determined to enjoy their day out

1 - Milendo Dina (Mr J F Haggerty) – liked her head and eye, good front, tended to lose her topline on the move due to exuberance but sound to and fro, would like a bit more ground clearance but preferred her layback of shoulder and strength of jaw to

2 - Hampdach Belle Returns to Kireton (Mrs T & Miss R Kerry) – good head, neck, eye and ground clearance, free flowing movement

PB (4,0)

1 - Longmel Christmas Truffle (Mrs F M Hinwood) – won on her correct proportions and ground clearance, best rib/loin ratio in class, very feminine 11 mth red with good head, eye, neck and good hind angulation, very sound free mover BPB and RCC, won BPIB on maturity and ground clearance

2 - Melriding Kaiserine (Mrs S L A Graham) – good head, neck and better front than rest, would prefer stronger jaw, not moving as well behind as winner but scored in proportions and ground clearance over

3  - Melriding True Colours at Jenivon (Mrs J Jennings)

JB (4,0)

1 - Keijam Heather On The Hill (Mr J F Haggerty) red of pleasing size and proportions, needs to settle, would prefer a little more front angulation  but good underline and very good hind angulation, winning on hind movement over

2 -Wanderhund under Your Spell with Hayvenhund (Mrs H A Chapman-Reith) good head and neck, preferred her proportions and front movement to

3 - Malpaspups En Paris (Mrs Mb Blachowicz)

NB (2,1)

1 - Daxanory Ravishing Rose (Miss K J Heels) – red, good dentition, moved well in profile but a little wide behind, would prefer longer upper arm and less length in loin, carrying a little too much weight and rather low to ground

PGB (2,1)

1 - Longmel After Eight Truffle (Mrs F M Hinwood) – B&t, lovely sze, good teeth good front although would prefer longer upper arm, rather too long in loin, well angulated behind, Would prefer more ground clearance.

LB (7,1)

1 - Melisdax Memories of May (Mrs S E Tomlinson) – B&t 3yo with best ribbing/loin ratio in class, very feminine head, good dentition, good neck and more upper arm than most, would prefer a little more width all through as she appeared very narrow to and fro but moved soundly and freely, very typical and unexaggerated

2 - Chidax Sahara Sand by Trisensara JW (Mrs S J Rycroft) – nice sized 2yo shaded red with a little more ground clearance than winner, good proportions, good head and eye and reasonable ribbing/loin ratio, I liked her a lot but she was sinking into her front on the move, scored on length of loin over

3 - Gobannium Made of Honour JW (Mr M D & Mrs T A Stark)

OB (6,2)

1 - Ch Bronia Solar Flare (Mrs F Hanney-Mitchell) – beautiful red 4yo, loved her size and proportions, feminine head with good dentition, best upper arm and rib/loin ratio in class, good hind angulation, good feet, excellent movement, simply flowed around the ring, CC and BOB over a very similar in type dog, close decision but I just preferred her head and neck. Pleased to discover afterwards that my CC winners were bred from litter sisters.

2 - Melisdax Magnolia in May (Mrs S E Tomlinson) – red 3yo, slightly larger but not too long, would like her to carry a little less weight and have a little longer ribbing, very sound mover if rather more deliberate than winner, seriously considered for RCC but lost out to the puppy’s more effortless movement, scored in rib/loin ratio over

3 - Bulldaxit Sooner or Later (Mr G & Mrs J Cox)

VB (4,0)

1 - Hampdach Alice Springs at Bensarka (Miss L K & Mrs J C Macdonald) – 7yo red bitch who in no way looks like a veteran. Liked her size and proportions, feminine head, good reach of neck but could have a longer upper arm, good rib/loin ratio, moved freely with good ground clearance BVIB

2 - Wanderhund Lets Celebrate for Hayvenhund JW (Mrs H A Chapman-Reith) – 7yo b&t, a little longer and slightly lower to ground, moving more freely than rest of class and scored on her better length of upper arm over

3 - Ch Adnerbs Won Vision of Gobannium JW OSW (Mr M D & Mrs T A Stark)
