Thanks to the committee for inviting me to judge at this well run, friendly show & to my stewards for their help on the day. I had some lovely dogs to assess, & there were some close decisions in the later classes. I was looking for a well balanced free moving hound without any exaggeration, not too heavily built but with enough strength to do the job it was bred for. Temperament I found was fairly good, though the noisy hall did upset a few of the youngsters, & I allowed for this. The floor caused a few problems as there were no mats available, but most dogs soon settled. Teeth were pristine, though I did find one mouth fault, something I wasn’t expecting in this variety, there were no kinky tails but a few of the exhibits had really splayed open feet & were down on their pasterns, maybe caused by lack of exercise at this time of year.

V (4,3a) 1 Higgins’ Matzell Misty Morning over Leveliss, nicely constructed 8 year old b/t, lovely head, good shoulders, long ribbing, & well angulated rear. He moved with drive keeping a good outline. A credit to his owner. MPD (0). PD (1) 1 Hunt’s Carpaccio Trouble In Store, strong, heavily boned b/t, conical head, well angulated fore & aft with good length & spring of rib, didn’t like the mat less floor, but settled enough to show off his good movement. BP. JD (5) 1 McNaughton’s Carper Ag Von Norder, attractive 12 month old youngster. Good shoulders, prominent pro sternum & long ribbing, moved well keeping a good outline. Upset by the noisy atmosphere today, & needs to settle on the table, but he will trouble the best in the near future. Loved him; 2 Valentine’s Morailsa Secret Script Tiffwazz, b/t, more compact than 1 with good shoulders & nicely angulated rear. Moved well keeping a good outline, but would have preferred tighter feet; 3 Graham’s Morailsa Return To Sender to Gameron. PGD (3,1) 1 Seago & Gibbard’s Amlida Spirit, well constructed choc/t, mature for his age. Lovely head, good front & long ribbing. He moved well keeping a good outline. Very nice dog; 2 Hone’s Pachego Compare The Market with Oxondachs, good head, well ribbed back but not the hind angulation of 1 & moving a little close behind. LD (2) 1 RCC, Tite’s Phaeland Special Driver of Rijobeau, loved this elegant boy, well off for bone without being overdone. Good head, long neck flowing into well laid back shoulders with tight elbows, long ribs, & good hind angulation, with this construction he had to move well. Very close up to the CC winner, & I’m sure he will gain his title; 2 Jones’ Hampdach Who Made Who for Adnerb, nice head, forechest & good angles on this boy, but not the topline or movement of the winner. OD (7) 1 Armstrong’s Lauralee Nicholas Nickleby, solid b/t dog, a stallion of a hound with great ring presence. He is heavily bone, with a masculine head, small dark eyes, correct front, long well laid back ribbing, & short loin. He moved with drive, keeping a level topline at all times & I was delighted to award him the CC, which I believe has given him his crown. Congratulations; 2 Seago & Gibbard’s Ch Amlida Dramatiker, lovely red boy with good head, prominent prosternum & good angles all through. He moved well, but I just preferred the slightly more compact outline of the winner; 3 Norton’s Matzell Man Of The Moment.

MPB (1) 1 Morgan Aitken’s Demorgans Secret Liason, 7 month old b/t puppy, well angulated with a good outline both stacked & on the move. Still very immature & needs to body up, but the framework is there. PB (1) 1 D Secret Liason. JB (1) 1 Macdonald’s Bensarka Sarabi, nicely made red youngster with good length of neck, slightly upright in shoulders but with good hind angulation. Moved well, but needs to settle on the table. PGB (8,3) 1 Paterson’s Phaeland Sent Direct to Amblesque, litter sister to my RCC winner, though not as mature. She has good angulation, long ribbing, & moved well, but another one who didn’t like the noise & needs to settle on the table; 2 Jones’ Hampdach In These Arms of Adnerb, smaller more compact bitch to my winner, she has long ribbing & a good underline, & moved well, but would have liked better shoulders; 3 Higgins’ Leveliss Hong Kong Garden. LB (6,1) 1 Norton’s Matzell Minella, very feminine red bitch with everything I was looking for. Beautiful head & expression, long neck & well laid back shoulders, good length of ribbing & well angulated hindquarters. Initially found the floor a problem, but once settled she showed the movement that matched her construction & I was delighted to award her the CC. I’m sure her others will soon follow; 2 Burke & Manston’s Bonavoir Testa Rossa, heavier made than my winner, with the same nice angulation, long ribs & good depth through the body, but she struggled with the floor both on the move & when stacked, & lost her topline; 3 Raggett’s Silandajo Red Hotter at Dansila. OB (7,1) A class full of quality, I found I was splitting hairs between these lovely bitches & it was just my personal choice on the day, I’m sure they will change places on another occasion. 1 Hunt’s Ch Sontag Shanda Leah, nicely constructed red bitch, good shoulders & nicely angulated rear with well let down hocks, moved well keeping a good outline, would just have preferred a more refined head. RCC; 2 Norton’s Ch Matzell Maid In Time, very similar to my CC winner. Well shaped head, long neck & excellent shoulders, moved well keeping a level topline; 3 Armstrong’s Lauralee Alexandrova.
