My thanks to Bath Canine Society for giving me the opportunity to judge Smooths for the first time at this years show. I was pleased with both the entry and the quality of the exhibits and enjoyed my day. My placings were as I saw the dogs today. I was looking for a well balanced hound of good construction who could move soundly and freely. There were some lovely puppies, a good sign for the future of the breed.
PD (4) 1 Tite's Phaeland Special Driver At Rijobeau. Smart light red boy, pleasing overall shape, well constructed throughout who holds himself well on the move, handsome head, good eye shape, reachy neck and firm topline, well filled front, good length of ribbing and well angulated quarters, moved soundly away and back and really strode out in profile, nice prospect. BP. 2 Valentine's Morailsa Secret Script. B/t of almost 9 mths, of a pleasing type and very masculine in outlook, not very settled on the table and needs more handling, however, he got his act together and moved out smartly and freely. Houndy head, good neck and topline, strong quarters. 3 Gowlett's Leveliss Major Minus Minalsa.
JD (5) Close decision. 1 Armstrong's Lauralee Nicholas Nickleby. Ultra smart b/t, liked his make and shape and pleasing to go over, lovely size and proportions, good bone and neat feet, well filled front and firm topline, ribbing well sprung and carried well back, strong, well muscled quarters which he used to really drive around the ring. Moved true away and back. Today he was carrying too much weight on his front. Would look more elegant slimmed down. Liked him a lot. 2 Jeffery's Carpaccio Swan Song At Andax. This most attractive b/t was sired by my CC winner and is very much in the same mould. He is very well balanced and has a lovely clean outline, liked his masculine head, reachy neck, well constructed front and good ribbing. At present he lacks the muscletone of first, particularly in his quarters, but has plenty of time to develop, at 12 mths shows lots of potential. 3 Starkey's Carpaccio Topic Of The Day Is Hamoura.
PGD (1) 1 Bethal & Gaskin's Sobahli Sham Prezent President To Hampdach. Smaller elegant b/t lad of 17 mths, stood alone but deserved his red card, liked his make and shape, balanced angulation fore and aft, lovely conical head, lengthy neck and good ribbing, moved out freely and kept his smart outline both standing and on the move.
LD (4) 1 Cox, Cobo & Fellows' Ralines Dark Knight. Most attractive b/t, soundly made with super bone and feet, lovely masculine head, reachy neck, well filled front, good depth and width to chest, strong, well muscled quarters and short hocks, which he used to really drive away, lovely outgoing temperament, considered for higher honours but not settled enough in his front action today. 2 Jones' Hampdach Who Made Who For Adnerb. Well presented 4 yr old red of pleasing type with lovely conical head and good expression, lengthy neck, well filled forechest, good ribbing and well angulated rear, moved well, not quite as positive in rear movement as first, shown in lovely coat and condition. 3 Graham's Gameron Simply Red.
OD (4) Super class with quality all down the line. 1 Hunt's Ch Chmdarhian Hogan's Hero At Carpaccio JW. I was immediately drawn to this impressive fully matured b/t lad, very masculine in outlook, so soundly made with a firm, well knit body and a pleasure to go over, loved his head carriage and general deportment, houndy head and strong jaw, good length of neck and firm topline, his front is well constructed and ribbing is deep, well sprung and carried well back, strong well angulated quarters, moved so sound away and back with a free, easy stride in profile. CC. 2 Macdonald's Multi Ch Ben Sarka Phoenix Sun. Super red dog, excellent size and construction, lovely conical head, carried on a reachy neck with good head carriage, very well put together with well filled front, good shoulder and snug fitting elbows, deep well sprung ribbing and short loin, good rear angulation, has good bone and stands on neat feet, moved true with both forward reach and drive, shown in lovely coat and condition, a worthy champion, liked him a lot. Res CC. 3 Starkey's Carpaccio Jasper From Hamoura ShCM.
PB (6) Class of promising babies headed by two reds who I see are sired by my RCC winner. 1 Macdonald's Bensarka Serabi. Eyecatching young lady of 10 mths, very feminine, pleased for size and type and very like her sire, she has a lovely head shape and dark eye, lengthy neck into good shoulder and front construction, well ribbed back and nicely angulated rear, moved out freely, still needs to tighten a shade in front, most promising, must have a bright future. 2 Feddery's Wanderhund Scarlet Witch Of Santorna. A lot to like about this smart baby, lovely overall shape and pleasing to go over, pretty feminine head, good front assembly, snug fitting elbows, nice depth of ribbing and well made rear, moved well away and back, was well handled and presented, just preferred head and neck of first. 3 Higgins' Leveliss Hong Kong Garden.
JB (5) 1 Jones' Hampdach In These Arms Of Adnerb. Smart red whose good conformation and sound movement won her this class. Attractive feminine head, lovely eye and expression, reachy neck, good top and underlines, ribbing carried well back, balanced angulation fore and aft, was well presented and shown on a loose lead, moved out freely, still needs to firm up a tad in rear, liked her a lot. 2 Marsh's Bonavoir Amaryllis At Marshwick. Neat b/t of 14 mths, good conical head and pleasing expression, enough neck, well filled front, nicely ribbed back with good depth, can still drop a little in hindquarters, needs to relax on the stack but moved out smartly. 3 Piggott's Alexia-Anais VD Wouwer For Merriteckels (Imp).
PGB (4) 1 Hone's Oxondachs Bon Bon. Smart b/t girl easily the best mover in the class. Elegant head, good shoulder and upper arm, stands on good legs and neat feet, well angulated quarters, in the challenge thought she was a bit longer than I like and not quite balanced enough. 2 Marsh's Marshwick Harmony. Smaller neat b/t, pleased in head and neck, well filled front and good depth of chest and short loin, well angulated rear, moved out freely. 3 Valentine's Amilda Elise.
LB (4) 1 Hunt's Sontag Shanda Leah. Classy red, very feminine, of a super size, very well balanced, full of quality and a pleasure to go over, beautifully put together with the most appealing head, reach of neck into well laid shoulder and good upper arm, her ribs are well sprung and carried well back with a short, strong loin and well muscled quarters, good bone and neat feet, she was a joy to watch on the move, absolutely true away and back and moved effortlessly with excellent reach and drive in profile, in gleaming coat and condition and carries herself so well, pleased to award her CC and BOB. 2 Armstrong's Lauralee Lush Lashes. Very smart red girl who is really well put together, neat all through and lovely to go over, she is well balanced and clean in outline, attractive head with pleasing expression, good neck and front with prominent keel and good upper arm, deep chest and long ribbing, well angulated rear, moved true away and back with good forward reach and drive, shown in lovely coat and condition. RCC. 3 Dalgety's Thundergay Blue Bayou.
OB (4) Close decision. 1 Hunt's Carpaccio Hersey Kisses. Well made chocolate of excellent type and smart in outline, pleasing feminine head and good pigmentation, loved her well filled front and upper arm, deep well sprung ribs and short loin, would like a tad more rear angulation but moved soundly away and back keeping a good topline, well handled and close up in he challenge. 3 Dalgety's Thundergay Bebop A Lula. Feminine b/t of 4 yrs who pleased for type and overall balance, in lovely condition and muscletone, appealing head and expression, good length of neck, well made front and rear, good depth of ribbing, would have liked a tad more ground clearance, moved out smartly keeping a good topline.
