Firstly, very grateful thanks to my two excellent stewards, Joan Savage and Bob Potts, super people to work with. Some observations I found when judging my favourite variety of Dachshund. Heads varied greatly in type and I know breeders have their own ideas what is good etc but there is still a standard to adhere to, one exhibit growled at me which is unforgiveable. Some fronts were quite poor and on reading the catalogue on some top winners. Fronts as we all know are very important in any Dachshund which brings me to my third point, feet, so many exhibits had very poor splayed feet with long nails also an important feature in any hound, let alone a Dachshund. The great Dagmar Kennis once said, in conversation, a hound is nothing without good feet! Think about it. Where possible my winners were pleasing and conformed.
SD/B (3,1) 1. Heap’s Ranglewood Katrine. This b/t bitch was a very nice type, liked her head, shown in lovely condition and a decent mover, BSpB. 2. O’Neill’s Ranglewood Finlaggan at Donnadach. B/t male, decent head, could use more neck, shown much too fat but has a good top-line. PD (2) 1. Paskins’ Kindeace London’s Calling. Very dark shaded red, lovely head and dark eye, super pigment, lovely well filled front and good feet, well made all through, good mover, wish he wasn’t so proud of his tail! 2. Garlick’s Ranglewood Christmas Star. Red baby who needs some schooling, liked his head, not good behind and too much weight. JD (3) 1. Mitchell’s Ch. Dachyclan Connolly at Bronia (imp AUS). Quality b/t, shiny black and rich tan make him eye catching, so pleasing to go over and so very sound, super front and feet, lovely coat and condition, RDCC. 2. Paskins’ Delsaux Life Goes On at Kindeace. Shaded red, typy head, good front, good top-line, sound moving, lost his coat. 3. O’Neill’s Ranglewood Pheonix at Donnadach. PGD (2) 1. Lacey’s Abydezi Shades of Glory. This shaded red is a very handsome boy, very good to go over and has a super top-line, moves wide coming towards. 2. Page’s Giovanni rude for Kokodax (imp LTU). B/t shown in gleaming condition, liked his head very much but his top-line and tail are not good. LD (3,1) 1. McNaughton’s Cedavoch Circeo. Shaded red of the type and quality we have come to expect from this kennel, lovely head and eye, so good to go over, beautiful coat and condition, very sound mover, would just benefit from a little more length of leg, unfortunately went lame in the challenge. 2. Paskins’ Kindeace Hit The Road Jack JW. Another shaded red who was so good to go over, very good front and lovely top-line, just preferred the head of winner. OD (3) 1. Geeson’s Ch. Abydachs Return of The Night. Dark shaded red, I found him immaculate, lovely head, eye and expression, reachy neck, lovely front and feet, super rib and top-line, strong rear, lovely coat and condition and a good showman, his movement is exemplary, DCC & BOB. 2. Cross’ Breezelyn Long Way To Go to Loggeta. Clear red, shown in lovely condition, beautiful outline, very sound moving with lovely bone and feet, just preferred head of winner. 3. Paskins’ Kindeace Texas Ranger ShCEx. VD (3) 1. Metcalfe-Bilgin’s Metadale Monterey Jack. Lovely for size and type, liked his head and good top-line, shown in lovely coat and condition, sound moving but could be a bit more enthusiastic. 2. Paskins’ Cedavoch Its Taboo at Kindeace. Shaded red with a lot to like, lovely body shape and movement, sound mover and in lovely condition, just a little full in eye now. 3. Hirst’s Ranglewood Lantana at Kejana. PB (3) 1. West’s Delsaux Twenty Carat Golden for Kendalldax. Dark shaded red, very pleasing in outline and good to go over, firm top-line and a sound mover, shown in lovely condition, much too proud of her tail. 2. Chapman’s Melminds Makayla. Liked the head on this red, lovely for body and coat, very sound mover, little too long for balance and looked very bored today. 3. Barnicott/Pascoe’s Fahoogle Minack. JB (3,1) 1. Garlick’s Ranglewood Andromeda. Very dark shaded red who is so beautiful to go over, lovely head, reachy neck, super front and feet, well ribbed and a firm top-line, very sound on the move, just needs her new coat to complete a quality picture. 2. McNaughton’s Ch. Cedavoch Just An Illusion. This dark red is another lovely example of the Dachshund this kennel produces, lovely head, lovely to handle, super front and feet, beautiful coat and condition, super sound, just like a touch more ground clearance. PGB (3) 1. Chapman’s Melminds Up On The Catwalk. Red who was just the best in the class, decent head and a good coat, good outline, would like tighter front. 2. Paskins’ Kindeace You Wear It Well. Shaded red with a good body and outline, would like better feet and too proud of her tail. 3. Reid’s Swansford Daphnedora at Maudaxi.
LB (5) 1. Dare’s Darsoms Zyrhona. Very dark red, super on the table, shown in immaculate coat and condition, lovely head and eye, reachy neck, sound front and good feet, lovely to go over and a sound rear, good mover, holds her outline going round, just like a touch more leg. 2. Chapman’s Melminds Make Them Gold. Very nice red who excels going round, uses herself well, pretty head and a lovely type, not quite the front of winner but very sound behind. 3. Lacey’s Abydachs Renegade Angel at Abydezi. OB (5) 1. Hanney-Mitchell’s Ch. Cavallibrook Final Fling Bronia. One or two minor points I would alter about her head otherwise immaculate, shown in beautiful condition and absolutely sound, lovely front and feet, firm top-line, strong rear, so good to go over, her movement secured her the BCC.
2. McNaughton’s Ch. Cedavoch Blithe Spirit. Liked this one a lot too, lovely head and eye, good front and feet, super coat and condition, sound rear, good mover, just like a touch more leg. 3. Geeson’s Ch. Abydachs Fire In Her Soul. VB (1) 1. Bailey’s Glasvey Double Trouble for Loggeta. Outstanding for 8 years, liked her head and eye very much, so well balanced in outline, super body, coat and condition, so very sound and just floated round, RBCC & BV, surprised to see she is not a Champion.
