Firstly I would like to thank the Officers and Committee for asking me to judge the Standard Long Haired and Miniature Smooth Dachshunds at their Championship show. I had a nice entry of quality standard longs which made some decisions hard and then a superb entry of miniature smooths to judge. Thank you to all of the exhibitors that braved the cold and gave me the opportunity of judging their dogs.

My only criticism is that there are now some mini smooths that have a lack of rear angulation which is leading to poor rear movement, and pinning in feet. There were a few with teeth that could have done with a clean – but on the whole I was pleased.

1. TRIXHUND PADDINGTON BEAR – MR D M LEWIS.

Beautiful shaded red dog. Superb shoulder placement, good length of neck. Lovely almond shaped eye with good black eye rims. Good length of rib, strong rear angulation. Correct scissor bite and correct coat. Moved like a dream – he owned the ring. BD, BOB and thrilled that he went HG4.

Red dog, lovely masculine head, nice almond eye and length of neck. Lovely front and good layback of shoulder. Good length of rib and rear angulation. Covered the ground well.

2. DARSOMS ZYJOSH OF SCANDELL – MR & MRS B E DUCHESNE

Dark shaded red dog, beautiful correct coat. Good scissor bite, almond eye and correct ear set. Masculine head – good length of rib and good hind angulation. Close to 1 – but just needed to settle in the ring.

Shaded red dog – very well coated. Good head, almond eye and ear set. Good length of neck flowing into well placed shoulders. Nice length of rib and strong rear angulation. Moved well. RBD

Red dog of good type – finer than 1. Lovely expression, super front with good length of rib – moved well – close decision.

WOW – what a delightful puppy to go over. Got everything going for her at this stage. Everything is in the right place and right proportion. For a 6 month old pup – strode round the ring as if she owned it. Fit for purpose – a bright future I think.. RBB and BP

Super shaded red bitch – very feminine expression. Lovely almond eye, super front and good length of ribbing. Lovely almond eye, length of neck with correct ear set. Good lay of shoulder and length of rib. Moved with drive around the ring. BB

2. CH SWANSFORD GEMMADORA - MR D ROBERTS

Shaded red bitch with a slightly broader head and muzzle than 1. Superb pigment with lovely dark eye rims around almond eyes. Correct shoulder placement, good length of ribbing with super rear angulation which gave her purpose in her movement around the ring. Very close to 1.
