LONGHAIRED

Such a privilege to be invited to judge at the Hound Show for a hound specialist especially when its one on your all time favourite breeds. My first appointment for Long Haired Dachshunds at Club Open Show level was on 9th September 1987 at the Southern Dachshund Club, I was approved to award CC’s in July 1993 at the East of England Championship Show, so its fair to say its being a ‘long’ road to get to judge at the premiere show for hounds. Along the way I have had the privilege of seeing in the ring such all time greats as “Mighty Mike”, “CafE9 Au Lait”, Conquistador”, “Mandrille”, “Arrandor” and who can forget the all conquering, all time great “Gold Braid”. All these longs brought such excitement and achievement to the world of dogs and showing there of course was many other kennels that produced consistently such top flight longs. Sadly in my opinion those days seem to be over with the exception of only a handful of exhibits on view today. I feel this breed if not at its best; I found a varying degree in heads, short necks, short ribs, and lack of upper arms and in some cases weak splayed feet and many without the desire to move with drive and reach. Its all right to have a glamorous coat, its part of this breed standard, but not when other important breed specifics are ignored! My class winners on the day deserved their wins and I thank the exhibitors for a decent entry in the current financial climate.

PD
(2)1 McNaughton, Cedavoch Kaballah B/T impressive individual, correct conical shaped head, correct bite, good eye colour, good reach in neck, shoulders ok, well ribbed, good level top line, correct in tail set, well angulated rear with short parallel hocks. Stands on quality bone with compact feet, still however needs time to fill his frame, this will come with maturity. Moved out with style and was well presented.2 Burke, Manston, Ranglewood Galaxy with Bonavoir, red, not a lot between these two exhibits, very similar remarks apply as to first, just felt winner put more in on the moved. Presented in good order.

(5) 1 Dare, Bronia Salvador of Darsoms, what a catch for the Darsom Kennel to steal this boy from the Bronia’s! Super chap, has bags of over all quality. His head is of the correct conical shaped but I would hope that it refines down with maturity. His bite is excellent, also correct eye and expression, super neck with desired crest, clean in shoulder correct length in rib, spot on top line which he hold at all times. Excellent rear with very good short strong parallel hocks. He stands on excellent bone with well padded feet. On the move he puts all in, super rear parallel drive and forward reach, just needs his jacket to mature to complete the picture. No doubt in my mind cc, his second, congratulations. 2 Cross, Logetta John Collins, my notes say very promising youngster, lovely to go over, correct in most departments. Very sound on the move, just giving away to age of the winner, well presented. 3 Metcalfe-Bilgin, Metadale Manyas.

PGD (9) A challenging class to sort out due to the varying degrees of type! 1 Dare & Cooper, Darsoms Samaras By Merrygarth, B/T, won this class on his over all correct make and shape, quality in head, good eye, correct in neck, ribs good, top line and tail set fine, standing on quality bone and feet. Did enough on the go around, presented in excellent order. 2 Oxley, Owerly Lewis, red, impressive individual masculine all through, good in over all balance, very good ribs, top line and tail set. He has a well angulated rear using himself to good advantage going away, as usual from this kennel put down to perfection. 3 Burke & Manston, Loggeta Duke of Marmalade.

LD
(9) A clean sweep for the kennel “Bronia” type judging I think! 1 Mitchell, Bronia Classic Legacy (A.1), A1 from “Conquistador” no wonder he caught my eye. Impressive individual who caught my attention as soon as he entered the ring. Quality in head, super eye and expression, lovely neck, fore chest and shoulders. Spot on top line and tail set. Well developed angulated quarters standing on quality bone with super feet. He was presented in gleaming coat and condition. I just felt that on the day he was not 100 per cent. Happy on the move so had to pay the penalty maybe in an outdoor ring a different matter. 2 Johnson, Bronia Prime Design at Africandawns, quality all through, masculine conical head, good bite, keen eye, correct in neck, well developed fore chest, good length in rib, stands on quality bone with good feet, moved out with style. 3 Dunbar, Bronia Fernando

OD
(8) Some tall reputations put on the line in this class. 1 Metcalf-Bilgin, Ch Metadale Macquarrie, first time ever for me to judge this exhibit and I consider it to be a treat. Handsome individual, super conical head of equal balance, good eye and expression. Excellent length in neck, clean shoulders, well ribbed, super top line and quarters. Stands on correct bone and neat feet, moved out with some style. Presented in fine order, not showing his age at all. Only bowed to the extra arrogance of the cc winner. RCC. 2 Oxley, Ch Owlery Valentine jw, B/T of obvious quality. Beautiful head and expression, excellent front assembly with a well filled fore chest, super neck, excellent body length, very good rear, he used himself to good advantage on the out and back, as usual presented in gleaming coat and condition. 3 Clarke, Ch/Aust Ch Tekalhaus Masterpiece (Imp) imposing individual has quality to admire, masculine well shaped head, super neck and front, excellent bone, plenty in rib. Put down immaculately, if I was to criticize I feel he is over long which in turn somewhat unbalances him; it’s only my opinion. He does however move with purpose.

VD
(2)Two war horses clash; both have many breed points to admire. 1 Roberts, Ch Swansford Lanador, lovely to go over, scores in head and eye, super neck, clean shoulders, excellent fore chest, correct in top line, super quarters. Stands on quality bone with good feet, moved out so soundly both on the out and back with positive rear drive and forward reach. Kept a lovely profile on the go around. 2 McFaul, Ch Ir Ch & Int Ch Darsoms Swagerson. I have always admired this exhibit for many years. The accolades that have been written about him I applaud. He is spot on for type, has quality in abundance, nothing I would change. As usual presented in excellent coat and condition. However today the miles on the clock are beginning to take their toll, not completely sound today on the concrete.

PB
(5) 1 Metcalfe-Bilgin, Metadale Make a Decision, clear red, at last something to get excited about for the future. Super young exhibit of perfect make and shape, glorious head of correct conical shape, lovely dark eye, super neck, clean shoulders, excellent ribs, good over all body balance, spot on quarters. For one so young she moved with grace and style, only maturity to complete the picture. I was mindful of her tender age, but I felt she could not be denied BP and RCC. Congratulations. 2 Marsdon, Bronia Carlotta, promising young exhibit, quality in head with a good eye, well bodied, good top line and tail set, good angles in rear, just not as positive on the move as the winner but with time should settle. 3 Dimon, Dimerlin Isoide

JB
(6)1 Dare, Darsoms Zienna, won this class on her over all quality and breed type. Excellent head proportions, good neck and fore chest, firm top line which leads to a well angulated rear with short strong parallel hocks. Used herself to good advantage on the out and back keeping a good profile on the go around. As usual from this kennel, presented in fine form. 2 Chapman, Daroms Ziana at Melminds, very similar remarks apply here as to the winner and I can now see why. “Litter Sisters”, quality in head and eye, well bodied, good bone and feet, excellent rear, moved out well just lost out due to top line not as firm as “Zienna” but this should correct itself in time. 3 Rawson, Owlery Jenny Wren at Rosenket.

SBB
(2,1a)1 Mitchell, Bronia Classy Chassis at Imirika, has plenty to admire, feminine head, good eye, good neck and clean shoulders. Well developed fore chest, ribs good, over all balance good, she has good bone and feet. Moved out soundly, presented in good order.

PB
(4)1 Mitchell, Brynalyn Fancy Free at Imirika, red of quality, feminine head with a lovely dark eye, good neck and a well developed front. Very well ribbed, excellent top line leading to a well angulated rear. Moved out with style showing positive rear drive and forward reach, presented in excellent order. 2 Plevin, Moraki Caol Ila, has plenty to like about her, correct in head and eye, good over all body proportions, good bone and feet, just not putting all in on the move. Presented in good condition. 3 Dimon, Laraine Truly Faye for Dimerun

LB
(5)1 Metcalfe-Bilgin, Metadale Majorette, quality exhibit all through, ultra feminine head of correct conical shape, super eye and expression. Excellent neck and shoulders, good over all body balance, very well angulated in rear. She has quality bone with neat compact feet, moved out with positive rear drive and forward reach keeping a good outline on the go around, close up for major award.2 Oxley, Owlery Bootilicious B/T of obvious merit, quality to spare, excellent head eye and front, well ribbed, excellent top line, she has quality in bone with super feet, felt that she would benefit for being slightly better angulated behind, nevertheless she puts all in on the move and as usual from this exhibitor was put down to perfection. 3 Johnson, Bronia Design Flair at Africandawns

OB (6)1 McFaul, Ch,Ir Ch Dachville Perfect Blend, super quality exhibit, lovely to go over on the table, excellent head, so feminine and so well balanced. Darkest of eyes giving off a beautiful expression, excellent length in neck, a well filled fore chest, tight elbows, very good ribs, correct in top line and underline, super angulated quarters with short parallel hocks. Moved out with positive rear drive and good forward reach, she gives off a lovely profile on the go around. It’s easy to see why she has collected so many cc’s. As usual presented in A1 coat and condition, proud to add another cc to her list and BOB. 2 Geeson, Abydachs Hot Summer Nights jw, correct in most departments, has so much to like about. Head ok and expression, lovely neck and fore chest, super bone and feet, correct in top line and tail set. She has a well angulated rear, moved out with verve, presented in excellent coat and condition, should wear her crown soon. 3 Dare, Ch Loxbar Rubi Muri Darsoms.
