All hounds, including Dachshunds, should be fit, with robust muscle, not fat. Some of the dogs here were a little disappointing as they were probably correct for size but would have weighed rather heavy on the scales and my placings reflected that.
The floor was a little slippery and some of the dachshunds managed to cope better than others when moving.
Baby Puppy Dog (2 Entries)
1st & Best Baby Puppy = Drady’s Indiko Fire and Ice
What a promising little gem this 4 ½ month old cream baby is and what a bright future he must have. Beautiful head shape with dark almond eye. Excellent front and rear angulation with good bone throughout. Super topline with slight arch over the loin. Moved very well and so sound for one so young. (Including the cheeky roll over too)!
2nd = Cox’s Cheritondax Malbec
Shaded red just a few days older than the winner. Attractive, well-shaped head with excellent strong underjaw. A little longer on the leg than 1st but his front and rear angulation is developing. He still needs to develop through his forechest (of course, he is just a baby) but he has all the basic framework there to develop on.
Minor Puppy Dog (3 Entries)
1st & Res BD & BPIB & BPIS = Brown’s Dolyharp Rossini At Garbosa
This quality, almost 7 months old cream puppy just stole my heart. Correct size, Height to length ratio was spot on, with just the right amount of ground clearance. Excellent angulation front and rear. Level topline with slight arch over his short strong loin. Well ribbed back. Broad, well knuckled feet. Correct set on to his tail. Moved with drive from the rear and excellent front extension. Sound as a bell. I was delighted to watch him go BPIS. Well done!
2nd = Fairchild’s Restinim Mr Pip
This black and tan, 8 months old boy was giving his handler a hard time! Once he settles, he should do well as he was nicely made all through. Beautiful shape to his head with powerful underjaw and dark almond eye. Excellent forechest. Lovely topline and tail set. Moved well. Just needs to use himself to best advantage.
3rd = Hayward-Barnsdale & Barnsdale’s Chriskims Gold Fever
Puppy Dog (3-2 Entries)
1st = May’s Scrumptious Red On The Dot
This 10 month old red boy stood alone. He had a super head shape with dark attractive eye and lovely expression. Good height to length ratio. Fair prosternum, excellent layback of shoulder and upper arm. Excellent feet. Just needs to develop through his ribcage to finish the picture. Moved well in profile. Sound behind.
Junior Dog (2-2 Entries)
Post-Grad Dog ( 2-1Entries)
1st = Roberts’ Dwtidachs Great Days
Cream boy with much to like. Loved his expression, his well-balanced head and super dark almond eye. Punishing underjaw. Fair length of neck. Correct angulation front and rear. Short strong loin. Broad, well knuckled feet. Would present a better picture on the move with a little more control.
Limit Dog (4-3 Entries)
1st = Stevens’ Dolyharp Amadeus at Sidburyhill
Attractive, well-balanced head on this black and tan boy who is nicely made through the body with fine angulation and good ribbing. Prominent forechest. Enough ground clearance. Would prefer a little more length to his neck. Moved OK.
Open Dog (4-1 Entries)
1st & BD & BOB = Phillips’ Ch Summerview Hello Hugo (JW)
I judged this quality black and tan boy as a 6 month old, and I said then that he had great promise. I was delighted that forecast came true, and he has matured into a typy, good moving, sound dog, who is just my cup of tea. Super head and expression. Best of necks let into well laid shoulder with correct return of upper arm. Flows through the body to strong rear quarters which he used on the move. Well ribbed back. Correct loin. Put it all together and you have a sound moving dog with extension in front and soundness on the up and back. Presented in immaculate coat and condition. Delighted to have the opportunity to have hands on him again.
2nd = Drady’s Tolberg Black Adder At Indiko
Black and cream - Another quality boy, not much between 1st and 2nd, this boy was a shade shorter coupled than the winner. Loved his head and expression. Good length of neck. Well laid back shoulder and upper arm. First class topline. Excellent prosternum. Moved well in profile and was so sound coming and going.
3rd = Poole’s Findowrie The Fusileer
Veteran Dog (1-1 Entry)
Baby Puppy Bitch (2 Entries)
1st = Drady’s Indiko Eternal Flame
Sweet black and cream baby, litter sister to the Best Baby Puppy Dog, beaten by her brother for Best baby. Feminine head. Good length of neck. Excellent topline. Fair angulation in front and developing nicely through the rear. Nice feet. Moved well in profile and ok on the up and back.
2nd = Horbulewicz’s Grondhale Valley of Lilly
This girl was built on a much finer frame than the winner. Longer on the leg and with more length through the ribbing and loin. But she has good foundation on which to build. Babies of this age can change so much.
Minor Puppy Bitch (6-1 Entries)
This was a lovely class of promising puppies. It will be very interesting to see how they develop in the coming years.
1st & BPB = Poole’s Findowrie Elana Rose
Quality black and tan girl who had the best front in the class. Good length of neck let into well laid-back shoulder and upper arm to match. Good ribbing. Strong loin. Well angulated rear quarters. Correct set on to her tail. Broad feet. Put down in gleaming condition. Moved with drive in profile and sound on the up and back. Should have an excellent future.
2nd = Stevens’ Sidburyhill Songbird
This pretty petite girl was sired by the limit dog winner, and was close up to the winner of this class, with many of the same attributes. So well balanced and she had an excellent topline and correct ground clearance. Moved well in profile and was sound coming and going.
3rd = Cox’s Dolyharp Grace Kelly at Cheritondax
Puppy Bitch (4-2 Entries)
1st = Mason’s Crownlakes Million Dreams
Pretty, well balanced head on this lovely correct size red girl. Dark almond eye and excellent underjaw. Correct length to height ratio with good ribbing and excellent short strong loin. Nice feet. Moved as I knew she would. Kindly handled to her best advantage.
2nd = Phillips’ Summerview Midnight Sky
This black and tan girl was reserve in the previous class. She has an excellent head, a lovely outline with a good front and the best of toplines. A super coat which was presented beautifully. Just needs to tighten up a little to complete the picture.
Junior Bitch (9-2 Entries)
This was another lovely class of upcoming youngsters. On another day, they could all change places.
1st BB & B Opp Sex = Holtom’s Rivandell Nymphadora
This cream girl was super quality. She had the most feminine, well shaped head with dark almond eye. Excellent expression. Balanced angulation for front and rear. Super topline with underline to match. She moved sound and parallel coming and going and had good drive from the rear in profile. No hesitation in awarding her BB and she was close up behind the dog for BOB. Well done!
2nd = Tubb’s Westwillow Sweet Pea
This cream girl was also from the top drawer. My hands just flowed over her and she moved with drive and soundness. First-rate front angulation with super topline. I was nit-picking between these two girls and simply preferred the head on the winner. No disgrace to be 2nd.
3rd = Aneke’s Dachadam Hopes and Dreams
Post-Grad Bitch (9-3 Entries)
1st = Holtom’s Rivandell Nymphadora
(As Before)
2nd = Westaway’s Abbilis Maleficent at Treranch
Red girl with attractive, well-balanced head and strong underjaw. Dark almond eye. Long neck let into well laidback shoulder. Correct topline with rise over her strong loin. Good height to length ratio. Broad feet. Moved very sound and with good reach in front and drive from behind.
3rd = Norris’ Criscan Que Paso
Limit Bitch (2-2 Entries)
Open Bitch (7-3 Entries)
1st = Mason’s Crownlakes Queen Bee (JW)
Beautiful coat condition on this pretty, well-balanced black and tan girl who never put a foot wrong. I liked her front angulation with a rear to match. Excellent prosternum. Correct height to length ratio with enough ground clearance. Moved out well in front and sound as a bell behind.
2nd = Drady’s Tolberg Cream Surprise At Indiko
This feminine, pretty, balanced girl was the dam of the two baby puppy winners, and I can see where they got their quality from. She is a little out of coat at the moment, but that just showed up so many of her nice features. Balance, topline, prosternum, ribbing, strength of loin, all there to see and enjoy. She moved sound on the up and back and reached out well in profile.
3rd = Poole’s Ch Findowries Finesse
Veteran Bitch (3 Entries)
1st & Res BB & BV = Mason’s Ch Tolberg Beez Kneez at Teckeltown
At almost 8 years old, this lovely red girl showed that veterans of this age can still show some of the youngsters a thing or two! Put down to perfection (as always by her handler) she has a lovely balanced outline. Pretty head and expression. Good prosternum and super topline. Ribbing extended well back to her strong loin and she used it all to advantage on the move. In the challenge she was handled by another, her experience showing that she knew exactly what to do, and when to do it! Just couldn’t be denied her Reserve BB. A credit to her owner.
2nd = Westaway’s Abbilis Jive Talking at Treranch (VW)
Feminine 9 year old shaded red girl that I would have loved to have seen in her prime. Strong underjaw on her correct shaped head and eye. Correct height to length ratio. Very shapely and with a strong topline. Prominent forechest. Good ribbing into short loin. Nice feet. Moved out well and was sound on the up and back.
3rd = Sainsbury’s Ridgegrove Constance at Boscolla

Thank you to the committee of the Long Haired Dachshund Club for their kind offer to judge at their Open Show. My two most efficient stewards, Micheal and Angela, kept me on my toes and had the ring moving smoothly. It was particularly lovely to see a wonderful young handler (she was only nine) doing a fabulous job showing her dog. I am sure she will have a bright handling career.
Most of the Dachshunds had super temperaments but there were a couple of hounds that I could hear rumbling on the table, quite untypical and something to be careful of.
BABY PUPPY DOG 0
MINOR PUPPY DOG 1(1)
PUPPY DOG 2
1st Lacey, Miss K Abydezi Shades Of Glory Well grown and nicely presented 9-month-old shaded red. He had an appealing outline on the stack. Long, tapering head with dark eyes and correctly positioned ears. His neck is long and muscular and flows smoothly into a fair shoulder placement. His back is broad and well ribbed with a short, firm loin. Moved out well.
2nd O’Neill, Ms S M & Miss K J M Ranglewood Pheonix At Donnadach 11-month-old black and tan, who enjoyed his time in the ring. Masculine head of good proportions with strength to his underjaw and correct dentition. He is balanced in angulations fore and aft. Ribs are nicely sprung and extend well back. He has width to his rear, but he just needs to firm up in his movement.
JUNIOR DOG 1 (1)
POST GRADUATE DOG 3
1st Vincent, Miss S L Swansford Padraciador At Gainscroft Beautifully presented 12-month-old black and tan. I liked the outline of this youngster; he is nicely proportioned and has the right amount of ground clearance. He has a lovely head with dark almond shaped eyes and pigmentation. Good front assembly with ample depth and infill of forechest. Level topline with a short, muscular loin. He moved around the ring with a free and flowing gait.
2nd Turton, Mrs K Bay Of Biscoff Biscuit At Damoradaxies 23-month-old shaded red. Long head with strength to underjaw and slightly arched muzzle. I would just prefer his ears to be set a little higher. Good length of neck into a fairly well-placed scapular. His back is broad and nicely ribbed. He has width to his rear with straight hocks. Shown in a soft and straight coat.
Limit Dog 3
1st Cross, Mr L J Breezelyn Long Way To Go To Loggeta Upstanding 2-year-old red with elegant flowing lines. This boy impressed me on the move with his free-flowing gait, and perfectly placed footfall. Handsome, well-proportioned head with dark almond shaped eyes and strength to his underjaw. He has a super front with a prominent keel and good depth of brisket. His rear quarters are full, he has width to his second thigh and strong, parallel hocks. Shown in super coat and condition, one I considered for top honours.
2nd Vincent, Miss S L Gainscroft Dashing Dudley Lots to like on this 3-year-old shaded red, he is so aptly named! Beautifully presented in excellent coat and condition. He moved around the ring with reach and drive, he looked a picture in profile. Balanced in angulations front and rear, he has the correct length to height ratio. He stands on strong bone with neat, well-arched feet. Nicely handled.
OPEN DOG 2
What a quality class – a joy to judge.
1st Geeson, Miss E H CH Abydachs Return Of The Night Stunning 5-year-old shaded red in his prime. Wow, this boy is top draw! He gave me goosebumps as he moved around the ring with pizazz. Masculine, breed typical head with a wonderful expression. His neck is clean and elegantly arched and flows into a fabulous front assembly. His breastbone is prominent with that desired oval shape. Broad, nicely ribbed back with a short, muscular loin. His rear is well-muscled with a lovely full rump and strong hocks. Shown in excellent coat and beautifully presented I was pleased to award him BD &BOB. I was delighted to see him win BIS
2nd Cross, Mr L J CH/Ir CH Loggeta Trouble In Texas ShCEx Impressive 5-year-old shaded red. Another wonderful example of the breed. He had bone and substance without being course. I loved his head which was perfectly balanced, his dark almond shaped eyes giving him a lovely expression. Long, clean neck into a super front; his shoulder blades are long and set obliquely, with an excellent return of upper arm. His chest is deep and well-ribbed giving him ample heart and lung room. Plenty of ground clearance underneath him, such a sound mover, he looked stunning in profile. RBD

He is balanced in angulations front and rear. His chest is deep, with a super keel and a prominent breastbone. His back is broad and well-muscled and he is level in topline. MINOR PUPPY BITCH 0
PUPPY BITCH 2
1st Garlick, Miss E A Ranglewood Andromeda Quality 10-month-old shaded red. This young lady is so full of promise. Her long, muscular neck flows smoothly into a nicely constructed front assembly, with her forelegs placed perfectly. Her chest is full and oval, with a prominent breastbone and tight elbows. She has width to her pelvis with a correctly set and carried tail. She moved with purpose, using her strong hocks to her advantage. I am sure she will have a bright show career. BP & RBPIS
2nd Palmer, Miss J Abydezi Time Will Tell 9-month-old shaded red. She was a little longer cast than1st. Pretty head shape, with correct length and strength to her muzzle. Good length of neck into a decent front, she is level in topline, although a tad long in the loin. She is just a little loose in her rear movement, but I am confident she will strengthen as she matures.
