Firstly, I would like to thank the secretary & the society for the invitation to judge Miniature Smooth, Miniature Wire & Smooth Haired Dachshunds at their open show, & for the superb hospitality shown through the day. There was a lovely, friendly atmosphere during the show, everything appeared to be well organised & my steward kept the ring running smoothly. Secondly I would like to thank the exhibitors for their entry & for accepting my decisions as I saw them on the day. I had some very lovely puppies to asses & it was so nice to see many acting & behaving as puppies should, enjoying (some) their first experience in the ring. I’m sure there are very exciting times ahead. There was only one exhibit whom I found to have an overshot bite & a suspect temperament. I had no concerns regarding thin exhibits & apart from one, all had correct scissor bites & sound temperaments.

MIN S/H – PD (4) 1 Roberts’ Denver Darling James Bond, 9 months b/t. Lovely type, quite compact & mature for age presenting a balanced profile. He has a correct conical shaped head & a dark almond shaped eye. He has a nice reach of neck, prominent pro-sternum & an oval forechest that is well filled & has good width through & a good length of keel. His shoulders are nicely laid back, & his ribs are well sprung & carried well back to a short loin. He has broad, well angulated hindquarters, a good sweep of stifle & lovely hammy thighs that have width & depth. He has good bone & feet & moved with confidence. He has everything in the right place to mature & strengthen with time; 2 Blackburn’s Stargang Sea Bird, 6 months shaded/r baby at his first show, slightly longer cast than winner & narrower all through, he has a lovely masculine houndy head & a dark almond eye. He is nicely constructed with a prominent forechest & good angulated front & hindquarters. He moved steadily around the ring taking in everything that was going on around him, but kept going forward. He is a raw baby, but has everything in the right place to mature & strengthen into & was given a lovely sympathetic introduction to the show ring by his handler; 3 Callow’s Garthorne T-Rex. PB (6,1a) This was a lovely class of puppies & I thank their owners for entering them. I’m sure the first three will often change places in the future, however I had to place them in order & this was how I saw them on the day. 1 Oddie & Dyer’s Riowood Tiger Socks, 9 months confident r/br puppy, who caught my eye as soon as she came into the ring. She has a lovely feminine, correct shaped head & eye, arched reach of neck, prominent pro-sternum & a well developed oval forechest that has a good width & length of keel. Her shoulder is nicely laid back with well sprung ribs that are carried well back to a strong loin. Her rearquarters are broad & well developed with a lovely bend of stifle & well developed thighs that have depth & width to them. On the move she used all of these attributes to move with reach & drive, elbows neatly tucked in maintaining her topline & was true moving out & back; 2 Blackburn-Bonnet’s Stargang Mary Rose, 9 months red, made in the same mould as winner, same comments apply, but on the day I preferred the overall balance & maturity of the 1; 3 Hutchings’ Stargang Hot Cross Bun. J (3,1) 1 Roberts’ Denver Darling Dream Of Love, 9 months, compact, shaded/r bitch, beautifully constructed & balanced, full of breed type, lovely angulations to her front & hindquarters & so mature for age. She has a correct conical shaped head & dark almond eye, lovely reach of neck that flowed into a prominent, well filled oval forechest & good width through to a lovely long keel. Her shoulders were well laid back, neat fitting elbows with a gradual incline of underline into her abdomen to balance her topline. Her ribs were well sprung & carried well back to a short strong loin, with super broad well developed rearquarters & hammy thighs that have good depth & width. She moved in profile around the ring with reach & drive on a free & easy stride keeping her topline at all times & was true & parallel moving out & back. A beautiful, quality bitch, not overdone in any way. Just my type, loved her & it was a pleasure to award her BP, BOB, & was delighted to watch her later being awarded RBPIS. Congratulations; 2 Callow’s Garthorne Gavin, 14 months b/t male, different type to winner, longer cast & narrower all through, however presented a nice balanced profile, with a masculine, houndy conical shaped head & a dark almond eye. He had a nice reach of neck & a prominent forechest, his ribbing was OK, but his hindquarters were not as well developed as 1. He moved soundly with drive & enthusiasm around the ring, but he is a young dog who has time on his side to mature & strengthen. N (4,1) 1 S Hot Cross Bun, 11 months, quite mature bitch who I placed 3 in a very strong PB class. She has a correct head & eye, good reach of neck into a prominent, well developed oval forechest, good width through keel, well sprung ribs that are carried back to a short loin & a broad well developed rump & lovely hammy thighs. She has a super, bold temperament & was thoroughly enjoying herself moving around the ring, although her movement was a little erratic on times, she settled enough for me to see that it was sound & true; 2 Blackburn’s Stargang Simply The Best, another lovely baby having her first introduction to the show ring, a 6 months red bitch with lovely overall balance, a feminine, houndy conical head & dark almond eye. She has a good length of neck, prominent forechest, good width through & a nice length of keel. Her shoulder is well laid back, ribs are well sprung & hindquarters are well angulated & developed at this stage. She moved steadily around the ring keeping going forward & was handled sympathetically. She is balanced, with everything in the right place to develop & mature into; 3 Kent’s Lokmadi Oh Marion. PG (6,1) 1 Blackburn-Bennett’s Stargang Cherry Berry, my notes say, 1 & 2 “peas in a pod” & were difficult to split & I’m sure they will often change places during the season. Was told after my judging was completed that they are litter sisters! Lovely 10 months shaded/r bitch, maturing nicely, & well constructed giving a lovely balanced profile. She has a conical head & a dark almond eye, good reach of neck, prominent pro-sternum, well filled oval thorax, good width through chest & a good length to keel. Here shoulders are nicely laid back, good length & spring to rib, a short, strong loin, super broad & well developed rump, with a good bend to stifle & lovely hammy thighs. She moved with enthusiasm around the ring keeping her topline & was parallel out & back. RBP, RBOB; 2 Hayward’s Stargang Nice N’ Spicy for Foxearth, litter sister to 1, super temperament, was not cooperating very well with her handler but, she was thoroughly enjoying herself, looking all around her wagging her tail continuously. Same comments apply to her as 1, was difficult to split them, but on the day I thought that the 1 was slightly more advanced in maturity; 3 Halsall’s Sandanca Love Song at Shelsall. L (3) 1 Blackburn’s Stargang Whipoowill, 10 months red dog, a more rangier type of puppy who was narrower all through. He has a lovely houndy head & dark almond eye, good reach of neck, prominent forechest with shoulders nicely laid back & a good spring of rib. He was sympathetically handled & moved steadily. He is a raw baby, who is well constructed enabling him with time to mature & strengthen into his frame; 2 Kent’s Lokmadi Hiden Dragon, 4 years mature red bitch, a smaller more compact type than 1. She has a correct conical head & dark almond shaped eye, her front & hind quarters are well constructed, & she moved enthusiasm thoroughly enjoying herself wagging her tail; 3 Lombardelli’s Kelmbeck De Montespan of Melriding. O (7,2) 1 Kent’s Lokmadi On Silent Wings, 4 years shaded/r bitch that I have judged before & thought highly of & it was lovely to have the pleasure of judging her again. Built on classic lines, feminine, but houndy conical head & dark almond eye, nice reach of neck into a prominent pro-sternum & well filled oval forechest. Her shoulders are well laid back, lovely length & spring of rib, with gradual incline of underline blending into her abdomen with a short, strong loin & a broad & well developed rump. She moved freely with reach & drive in profile, maintaining her topline & was true & parallel out & back. A lovely balanced bitch who would be an asset to any kennel; 2 Callow’s Garthorne Jackson, 2 years b/t male, different type to 1, slightly longer cast, & narrower all through & nicely constructed front & hindquarters. He has a strong, masculine head & dark almond eye, a prominent pro-sternum, good lay back to shoulder & length & spring of rib that is carried back to a broad, well developed rear. He moved with good reach & drive in profile & was correct moving out & back; 3 Kerry’s Kireton Cici.

MIN W/H – P (0). J (2,1) 1 Shone’s Hanishan Lady Of The Lake, what a sweetie, a r/br bitch not long out of puppy, super temperament wagging her tail all the time she was in the ring. Feminine, houndy head & almond eye, nice reach of neck with prominent pro-sternum, well filled oval forechest & good width through & length of keel. Her shoulders are nicely laid back, neat elbows & a well sprung rib carried back to a short loin & a lovely broad & well developed rear. Her coat was a good wire texture, was well presented & she moved out with enthusiasm & drive on a free & easy stride, maintaining her topline & was true out & back. A lovely happy girl. N (0). PG (1) 1 Hayward’s Foxearth Got A Feeling, 2 years light brindle bitch, lovely make & shape, another sweet & kind natured bitch, just lacking a little confidence, but very biddable. She had a lovely feminine expression, a conical shaped head & a dark almond shaped eye. She had a good reach of neck with a prominent, well filled oval forechest. Her shoulders are well laid back, good length & spring of rib & a short loin. Her hindquarters were nicely angulated, were broad & well developed with lovely hammy thighs. A lightly shown bitch who moved steadily taking everything in her stride & was sympathetically handled giving her a good experience in the ring. O (4,1) 1 Dyer & Oddie’s Banburg Svetlana at Sharnphilly, 2 years light brindle, very typy bitch, super temperament & full of confidence, constantly wagging her tail & thoroughly enjoying herself. She has a lovely houndy, feminine head & dark almond eye, strong jaw & a nice arch & reach of neck. She has a prominent, well developed oval forechest with good width through & length to keel. Her shoulders are nicely laid back, super length & spring of rib into a strong short loin. Her hindquarters are nicely angled, broad & well developed with a good sweep of stifle, lovely hammy thighs, good bone & neat feet, & was well presented All of these attributes she used to move in profile with reach & drive on a free & easy stride maintaining her topline & was true & parallel out & back & was pleased to award her BOB; 2 Hayward’s Baltiyskiy Talisman Nochnoy Dozer at Foxearth, 2 years b/t male, different type to 1, more rangier & narrower all through, preferred the overall construction & balance of 1; 3 Shone’s Strax Gogol.

S/H – PD (0). PB (2) 1 Lockett-Walters’ Ralines For Pete’s Sake, 10 months b/t, confident, balanced puppy who has good breed type & is quite mature for her age. She has a beautiful, classic conical shaped head, an almond eye, with a lovely arched length of neck. Her forequarters are well angled & constructed, prominent pro-sternum, oval well filled forechest, good ground clearance & width through & length of keel. Her shoulders are well laid back, ribs are nicely sprung & carried well back to a short loin. Her hindquarters are well angulated, broad & well developed with a good sweep of stifle & super hammy thighs. She has good bone & moved freely with confidence maintaining her topline & was true out & back. She was presented in lovely condition, with her coat immaculate & shinning. She is a lovely balanced puppy, not overdone in any way & although she has some more maturing to do, everything is in the correct place to enable this to happen; 2 Clarke & Hastie’s Demorgan Tania, 6 months choc baby, very raw with lots of maturing to do, difficult to assess movement as it was erratic & uncoordinated on times, however, she held her nerve & with sympathetic handling kept going forward. I’m sure she will benefit & gain confidence from the experience. J (2) 1 Skipper’s Lauralee Artful Dodger, 15 months b/t male, nice overall make & shape, lovely strong houndy head & dark almond shaped eye, prominent well filled oval forechest, with good width & length through keel, to well sprung ribs carried back to a strong loin & broad well developed & angled hindquarters. He had a nice sweep to stifle, well developed thighs, & moved soundly in all departments; 2 Stringfellow’s Oxondachs Amethyst at Silvatica, b/t bitch not long out of puppy class, nice conical shaped head & almond eye, front & hindquarters construction & angulations OK, moved steadily enough, but she let me know that she was not very happy when I was examining her teeth & bite. Preferred overall construction & balance of 1. PG (3) 1 Kerry’s Kireton Daisy Belle, 19 months b/t bitch of a lovely make & shape, feminine, conical head & a dark almond shaped eye, nice reach of neck into a prominent well developed forechest, good layback of shoulder & neat fitting elbows. She has a good length & spring of rib & broad well developed hindquarters & thighs. She moved soundly around the ring, maintaining her topline, was presented in good condition with a lovely shine to her coat & was well handled to get the best out of her; 2 Clark & Hastie’s Sirius Rising, an 18 months b/t male, lovely conical head & dark almond eye, good reach of neck into a prominent forechest, shoulders nicely laid back & ribbing that is well sprung & carried back to a short loin. His hind construction & angulation was OK but I preferred the more sound & truer movement of 1; 3 Starkey’s Carpaccio Topic Of The Day. L (2) 1 Kerry’s Kireton Beau Diddley, mature b/t male who is a litter brother of the winner of Post Graduate class. Same comments apply here, he has a strong, masculine conical head & almond shaped eye, good reach of neck, a prominent well developed forechest with shoulders well laid back & neat fitting elbows. He has a good length & spring of rib, strong loin & broad, well developed rear that have good angulation & hammy thighs. He moved soundly in profile, maintaining his topline & was true moving out & back He is a nicely balanced hound, not overdone & was again presented in lovely condition. RBOB; 2 Stringfellow’s Sontag Silvan Sorcerer, mature shaded/r male with a good houndy head & almond shaped eye. He has good bone & moved with enthusiasm, preferred the overall construction & angulation of winner. O 1 Starkey’s Carpaccio Jasper from Hamoura, b/t male, smaller type than second, but nicely made all through. Good head & eye shape, prominent oval forechest, good width through & shoulders well laid back. His ribs were well sprung & carried back to a short loin with angulated & developed hindquarters. He moved soundly in profile displaying forward reach & rear drive & was true out & back; 2 Payton’s Minalsa Mulberry of Marjo, shaded/r male, a much bigger & heavier type than 1. He had a good strong masculine head & almond eye, but I found it difficult to carry out an accurate assessment when he was on the table & moving around the ring, as he appeared to be carrying rather a lot of condition. This made him look unbalanced in profile, exaggerated in front construction, low in keel & not having enough ground clearance. His shoulder was quite well laid back, ribs were well sprung & carried back to broad well angulated hindquarters & thighs had good length & width, but needing more muscletone. He moved out steadily & soundly around the ring & out & back.

MINIATURE – V 1 Kerry’s Dolyharp Pizzicato at Kireton, 11 years b/t Min S/h bitch, compact & balanced, in lovely condition with a super temperament & not looking or acting like her age! She is a lovely make & shape, correct head & eye, & super strong teeth that were in lovely sparkling condition. Her front & hindquarters are well constructed with a super length & spring of rib that was carried well back to a short loin & a lovely broad & well developed rump & hammy thighs. She moved soundly around the ring in all directions with drive & enthusiasm, wagging her tail, thoroughly enjoying herself being totally in tune with her handler. She was presented in lovely condition her coat was gleaming & she is a credit to her owner. Loved her; 2 Kent’s Toniajavae Indian Passion at Lokmadi, 8 years b/t bitch, slightly finer type to 1, but with lots of breed type, feminine head & expression, same comments apply as 1, again she was sound & moved with enthusiasm & drive thoroughly enjoying herself, she was also presented in super condition with a lovely shinny coat another who is a credit to her owner. Shame I could not award a joint 1 place, but I had to decide on a 1 & 2 & on the day I preferred the overall balance of the 1; 3 Brearley’s Lyndarlea Silver Wave at Xanadax. STANDARD – V 1 Garlick’s Ch Ranglewood Genista, 8 years b/t L/h bitch who is a lovely make & shape, not too big or heavy with good breed type. She has a lovely feminine head & expression & a dark, almond shaped eye. Her front & hindquarters are well constructed & angulated, with a good layback to shoulder & her ribs have good depth & length & are well sprung. She has a strong, short loin & a lovely broad & well developed rear. She has a good sweep of stifle & “hammy” thighs that have plenty of width & depth to them. She has a super temperament & moved out soundly & confidently in all directions with a free & easy stride & reach & drive, maintaining her topline. She was presented in tip-top condition with a lovely shiny coat that was not too profuse, allowing it to lay flat. A lovely bitch who thoroughly enjoyed herself & presented a lovely balanced profile picture of all the pieces fitting together. She is a credit to her owner & so deserving of her title; 2 Reston’s Ranglewood Gloxinia, another 8 years L/h bitch, a shaded/r this time who was a larger, type of hound than 1, & appeared to be carrying quite a lot of condition. She has a lovely conical head & a kind looking almond shaped eye. Her overall construction & angulation was OK but her coat was too thick & lacking that nice silky texture. She has a lovely temperament & moved around the ring with lots of enthusiasm, looking as if she was really enjoying herself.
