It is a couple of years since I last judged Miniature Wires, so most of the dogs were completely new to me. Since weighing was stopped, unfortunately size is creeping up and I had several oversize ones in this numerically good entry. Some were of high quality otherwise, but their larger size did come into my decision making and where there were others of equal merit, the oversize ones had to be placed lower. I also found a significant number of nervous exhibits, some being apprehensive on the table examination, while others were, I feel, noise-sensitive as this indoor building seems to amplify all the background barking and general noise.
Quality of conformation and movement was generally good, with most moving out freely in profile. Not all are able to hold their stacked outline when moving, however, and quite a few had a dip behind the shoulders and were running up a little behind. I also found a handful with ingrowing lower canines, impinging on their upper palate/gum, which is a consequence of a narrow lower jaw and needs to be taken into account when breeding on. Lastly, some exhibits could benefit from more work on their grooming and coat presentation.

1st Irshad’s SHAMPI DE VALE D’ARCA (IMP PRT)
Smart, harsh-coated, 11 month old dark red of more Euorpean type and I see he is a Portuguese import. He has plenty of ground clearance as one would expect with this breeding and will probably be slow to mature. He has an attractive head, with keen expression. Reachy neck flows smoothly into well placed shoulders. He is well balanced with angulation at both ends matching. Holds a firm, level topline in stance and in profile movement. Moved parallel up and back and freely in profile. Best Dog Puppy.
2nd Rowberry’s GRIFFINGATE TED THE RED
Oversize, softer-coated light red who would benefit from a bit of a tidy up. Slightly apprehensive today. Attractive head, good reach of neck and reasonably well placed shoulders. Well bodied and deeper all through than 1st. Moderately angulated hindquarters. On the move he was running up a shade behind and not holding his topline as well as 1st.

1st Kilroy’s JANACOP SWEET CHILD OF MINE
Eye-catching, harsh-coated red of quality with lovely bone and substance throughout. Caught my eye immediately as he entered the ring. I see he is a son of my Best Of Breed, who is clearly proving his worth as a stud dog and has passed on many of his qualities to his son. He has particularly good forequarter construction, with well placed shoulders, good length of upper arm and as a consequence has a good forechest. Well sprung ribs, firm topline and good flow of underline. Well angulated quarters complete the picture. He held his outline in stance and on the move and covered the ground freely. Lovely tight bunchy feet too. Close up to my main winners in the challenge. One to be proud of.

Wildboar who could benefit from a bit of a tidy up to his coat in order to enhance his outline. He is well constructed, with an attractive head and keen expression. Neck flows smoothly into his well placed shoulders. Good overall body shape, spring of rib and flowing underline. Well angulated hindquarters. Looked a picture stood and held his shape reasonably well in profile, but dipping just slightly behind his shoulders. I see he is by Ch. Drakesleat Kumquat May, the sire of my bitch CC and reserve bitch CC winners, who looks also to be a good producer.

1st Kirkwood-Emery’s HELYDON XTRA SPECIAL
Another sired by Ch. Drakesleat Kumquat May and similar in overall type to his other offspring, having a lovely, elegant overall outline, attractive head and reachy neck which flows smoothly into well laid shoulders. Has a good length of upper arm which adds to his correct forequarter conformation. Firm topline held in stance and profile movement. Well angulated hindquarters. Moving with enthusiasm in profile, but today had a tendency to pull to one side coming towards me unfortunately and this spoilt his chances in the challenge, sadly. Well presented coat.
2nd Rose’s RIDANFLIGHT GILCORU GINO
Smaller sized, harsh coated red with eye-catching outline in stance. Attractive head with dark eyes and keen expression. Well constructed at both ends and I particularly admired his lovely length of upper arm, which is lacking in so many dachshunds these days. Well angulated in hindquarters with lovely bend of stifle. Today, however, he seemed a little apprehensive, especially on the move where he was pulling his ears back. Guessing he is a bit noise-sensitive maybe?
3rd Sieminski’s DALLANDOR BURDOCK

This was the strongest class of the day and both a delight and a headache to judge, with lots of thinking required! I could easily have awarded more than one CC as there was quality right down the line.
1st Mullen’s ROZELLE FOOL’S GOLD
This elegant and balanced light red dog caught my eye on the first circuit of the ring and I wasn’t disappointed when I got my hands on him on the table. Everything about his conformation fits and flows so well. He has excellent forequarter construction with well placed, laid back shoulders, good length of upper arm to complement and consequently has the correct forechest. Lovely overall body shape with firm topline and flowing underline. Well angulated hindquarters with good bend of stifle to complete the picture. His high level of quality of conformation translated into enthusiastic, sound up and back movement and free-striding profile action, where he held his shape at all times. Looks to have a lovely, happy temperament. On top form today. Pleased to award him CC and Best Of Breed.
2nd Jones’ CH. BIMINI SONG SUNG BLUE
Outstanding wildboar also sired by Kumquat May. Of equal quality with 1st. Lovely overall outline, with attractive head and expression. Good length of neck which flows smoothly into well laid shoulders. Good body shape with correct depth and spring of rib. Well angulated hindquarters with good bend of stifle. Well presented and unobtrusively handled to get the best from him. Moved soundly up and back and freely in profile. Very close decision, however, 1st was just a shade more powerful on the move today. Pleased to award him the Reserve CC.

Another quality dog I also admired, but just a bit too large in size. Sire of my Best Puppy.

Wildboar dog of larger size. He has a lovely elegant and well-balanced outline. Attractive head with alert expression, carried proudly on a reachy neck which flows into well placed shoulders. Good body shape and topline. Well angulated hindquarters. Moved freely in profile holding his lovely outline at all times.
2nd West’s CH. ARCHIDAX DARK PHOENIX
Compact, well-presented dark red bitch. Very feminine and of correct size. She too, is well constructed throughout and has a firm, level topline. Today she just seemed to be slightly favouring her left foreleg moving around the ring.

1st Mantle’s BIMINI MOONDANCE AT RHIEWVALLEY
I see this pup is a daughter of my BOB the last time I judged Min Wires in 2024. Although she is slightly soft-coated and in need of a tidy up, this light wildboar is of good overall construction. Attractive head with dark eye and alert expression. Moderate angulation at both ends and good overall body shape for her age. She moved freely in profile and kept her shape, but needs to firm up in hind action going away, which may come with maturity.

1st Beech & Mills’ ONIASID HOPES DREAM
Beautiful, harsh-coated dark wildboar with excellent overall construction. Caught my eye on the first circuit of the ring. She is so well balanced, compact, elegant and sound in movement. Attractive head carried on a good length of neck, which runs smoothly into well laid shoulders. Firm topline, held in stance and profile movement, good flow of underline and good hind angulation. She showed herself off with confidence, moving with an easy, flowing stride. Loved her. Best Puppy in Breed and went on to win Best Puppy In Show. Congratulations.
2nd Kirkwood-Emery’s HELYDON YER YOLO
Longer-bodied wildboar with well presented, good texture coat. She too, presents an elegant overall outline and is well constructed throughout with good lay of shoulder, prominent breastbone, pleasing body shape and well angulated hindquarters. She moved freely in profile, but carries her tail a shade high and not quite holding as firm a topline as 1st. Two quality pups with bright futures ahead.

Quality light red of similar style to the other exhibits bred by this kennel. Caught my attention immediately on entering the ring and I had her in mind for one of the top awards, however, in the challenge a noisy military fast jet flew over at just the wrong moment and unsettled her completely. Such a shame. Hopefully she will have better days in future. Beautifully constructed throughout with attractive head, dark eye, good reach of neck which flows smoothly into well laid shoulders. Good forechest, body shape, top and underline. Well angulated in hindquarters. Her high quality conformation translated into sound, free movement where she held her shape in profile and was true moving out and back. Loved her.
2nd Rose’s ROZAMIE REFLECTION OF ROSENKCRANTZ
Harsh-coated, compact chocolate and tan with deeper body than 1st and not quite her elegance. She has a good head and eye, enough neck and firm topline. Moderately angulated at both ends. Held her topline well in profile and moved steadily.

This rather soft-coated light red would benefit from a good tidy up of her coat in order to make the best of herself, as underneath the profuse coat is a well constructed exhibit. She has a feminine head, but is slightly short in muzzle. Presents a good overall outline with well placed shoulder, reasonable length of upper arm. Firm topline, held in stance and profile movement and well angulated hindquarters. Another sired by Kumquat May and very similar in style to his other progeny.
2nd Marston-Teal’s LORDSCAIRNIE LOVE IN PARIS
Smaller, more compact wildboar. Pleasing body shape with good spring of rib, firm topline and flowing underline. Good coat. Moved steadily in profile, but a shade wide behind going away.

1st Gilkes’ DEREHEATH LOVE IS THE TONIC
Smart, compact black and tan of correct size. Presents a very correct overall outline, having an attractive head, carried proudly on a reasonable length neck. Well laid shoulders, firm, level topline, good body shape with well sprung ribs and flowing underline. Hind angulation in harmony with her forequarter construction, making for good balance. I would perhaps like a shade more daylight underneath her for perfection, but other than that she fits the breed standard well. Moved out freely, holding her outline at all times.
2nd Kilroy’s ROZELLE ROSALIE AT JANACOP
Litter sister to my Dog CC winner and is very like him in type. This light red appealed for her outline and it was a very close decision between her and 1st. Both are of equal quality but different in type. She has a good head with dark eyes, reachy neck flows into well placed shoulders. Good body shape and spring of rib. Moderately angulated hindquarters. Good coat. Moved freely in profile and held her outline well. 1st just had a slightly firmer topline.
3rd Marston-Teal’s LORDSCAIRNIE PEACEFUL LOVE

Quality not quantity in this hotly contested class, that was so difficult to sort out and any of these 3 could change places on another day. Three beautiful bitches of high quality.
1st Thorn-Andrews’ CH. DRAKESLEAT SEE NO EVIL
Compact, beautifully constructed wildboar of the correct size. Everything flowed under my hands on the table examination. Feminine head with dark eyes, carried on a good reach of neck. She has textbook front construction with well placed shoulders, good length of upper arm and consequently, good forechest. Good overall body shape, with flowing underline. Well angulated hindquarters. Her quality of conformation enabled her to move soundly up and back and with a ground-covering stride in profile. Pleased to award her the Bitch CC.
2nd Jones’ BIMINI MOONLIGHT
Very similar in overall type to 1st and it was an extremely close decision. Ist was slightly better in front construction, having more forechest, however, I preferred this bitch’s hindquarters. She is of correct size with a compact overall outline. Like 1st, everything fitted together so well on the table examination. Attractive head, good length of neck, reasonable shoulders, firm topline which was held in stance and movement. Well angulated quarters with lovely bend of stifle. Reserve Bitch CC.
3rd Rose & Mullen’s CH. ROZELLE KAMIRA’S YEAR
Longer-bodied bitch of different type, but equal quality to 1st and 2nd. Beautifully constructed throughout with good head, reach of neck, well laid shoulders and overall body shape. Holds a firm topline. Moved freely in profile. Best Veteran and Best Veteran in Show. Congratulations. One to be proud of.
