South Wales KA 2018
Dachshund (Miniature Wire-haired)
Many thanks to the committee for their kind invitation to judge at this prestigious show, their hospitality was much warmer than the weather. My thanks must also go to the exhibitors for allowing me to assess their lovely dogs, and for bravely enduring the freezing conditions in the hall.
I havenít judged Miniature Wires for many years, and itís my first time giving tickets in the breed. Toplines and underlines were my biggest concern today, so many dogs looked beautiful when stacked but completely lost their outline when asked to move. Temperament is another area that needs watching, as so many dogs backed off on the table, and didnít want to be handled. The breed standard requires boldness, but many were sadly lacking this today. I found one badly overweight dog, and a few were just the odd couple of ounces over, with the majority well within the guidelines. There were no bad mouths. I hope that my observations of your lovely dogs will be accepted in the constructive way in which it is intended. I was extremely pleased with my winners, such a shame that the BOB missed the group due to his ownerís illness.
Minor Puppy Dog 1
1 Phillips Gulliagh Loganberry of Robinswood (IKC)
Immature 8 month old boy who still needs to body up and tighten all through. Pleasing head and good length of neck, good shoulders strong hindquarters, and harsh coat. Moved well. BPD
Puppy Dog 2 (1)
1 Phillips Gulliagh Loganberry of Robinswood
Junior Dog 2
1 Kirkwood Ė Emery Ch Helydon Lord Loki Solid, nicely constructed boy Excellent head, strong well sprung ribbing, well angulated shoulders and hindquarters, and lovely harsh coat. Moved with drive, and purpose, and was close up to the ticket winners, just still slightly immature for me. I see heís already a champion, and Iím sure he will be a great asset to the breed in future years.
2 Jones Carlita Sunrise
Slightly longer framed, and shorter in upper arm. Good head, long neck and
decent ribbing, but not the rear movement of my winner.
Post Graduate Dog 1
1 Hayward Foxearth
Fantastic Mr Fox 18mo old red boy that I really liked. Classic head, small
correct eye, and good prosternum. He has excellent shoulders, good rear
angulation and moved really well. He was another I considered for top honours
today, but for some reason he didnít move as well in the challenge.
Limit Dog 2
1 Kay Kaytian Tempest over Hiati JW Heavily boned dog with good head, tight eye and long, well sprung ribbing. He was well angulated fore and aft and a harsh jacket finished the picture. Moved well keeping a good outline.
2 Lordscairnie Love God
Correct head and good reach of neck. Prominent prosternum and well ribbed back,
just not the rear drive of my winner.
Open Dog 4
1 Rose Ch Ridanflight Ricardo What can I say about this worthy champion that hasnít already been said. I just loved him. He is so well balanced all through, Beautiful head and expression, elegant, well arched neck, and sound well angulated shoulders and hindquarters. No wonder he can move correctly. He strode round the ring with confidence and drive and demanded the CC and BOB which it was my honour to give him.
2 Hayward Ch Foxearth Fiddler on the Roof Another beautiful dog and worthy champion. Really close up to the winner. Lovely head and expression , prominent front, long well sprung ribbing and good angulation. He looked a picture, but I just preferred the drive of one today RCC
3 Presnail Taree Useless Loop
Veteran Dog 1
1 Phillips Ch Curtisey
Boogy WoogyJW 8 year old boy in super coat and condition for his age. Lovely
head and length of neck, deep, well sprung ribbing carried well back, and a
harsh jacket. He had strong powerful hindquarters and is cobby without looking
cloddy. A lovely older gentleman.
Good Citizen Dog No

3 Kirkwood Helydon Magical Mika
Post Graduate Bitch 3 (1)
1 Mullen Starhill Flirty Girty Very soundly made bitch, smaller type but well boned, with good head and expression, correct angulation and sound free flowing movement.
2 Grant Granthoward Ownley Slightly larger frame than my winner, but similar in type. Good head and construction, not quite the length of ribbing and tended to lose her underline .
Limit Bitch 6
1 Morris Pennywave Uptown Girl Solid, heavily boned little bitch, correct in all departments with a good head and length of neck, and good angulation She moved well keeping a good outline.
2 Marston Teal Lordscairnie Life of Love Smaller nicely constructed little bitch with good prosternum, well laid back shoulders and good hind angulation. A pity she isnít more confident as she doesnít make the most of herself.
3 Black Bassodon Dodechahedron JW
1 Dance Ch Emem Gloria Sunshine JW ShCM Beautifully constructed girl, the daughter of my BOB winner and with many of his qualities. Lovely head and neck, correct shoulder placement, exceptionally long, well sprung ribs, short loin, powerful hindquarters and the harshest of jackets. She gave her handler a hard time controlling her exuberance, but her qualities far outweighed her behaviour. BCC
2 Feetham Kimbleholme Queen of Hearts A different type to my winner. She is correctly constructed all through with good head and expression, long ribbing, and correct angulation. I loved her elegance and balance, but just preferred the better front movement of my winner RBCC
3 Kirkwood Emery Ch Helydon Fabulous Freya
Veteran Bitch 2(1)
1 Dance Ch Emem Candy Sunshine Another lovely bitch from this kennel 8 years old and moving like a train, with good reach and drive She is well made all through with good front and powerful hindquarters and certainly doesnít look her age.
