I was very pleased to accept the invitation to Judge Min Wires. It is 8 yrs since I last judged them. I thought the show was very well laid out and looked most attractive. However I would have preferred a larger ring and more matting, the flooring being slippery. I thank the exhibitors for allowing me to assess their dogs. The placings are in accordance with performance on the day, some exhibits coping better than others on this surface.

Pd (5) 1 Wood’s Wildstar Wedgewood. Exciting young man of excellent type and balance. Excelled in front construction, oval and well filled front, good bone and stands true on neat large feet. I found many exhibits were unable to stand true on crooked, twisted feet with untrimmed nails. Firm, well covered body with lengthy ribbing and short loin. Pleasing well muscled hindquarters. Presentation was spot on. Pleased on the move keeping a level topline, in the challenge did not move with quite the same freedom as Russel Sprout. Res CC; 2 Blackburn’s Stargang Xcaliber. This young man was very close up to the winner, loved his firm and chunky body, beautiful outline. Presentation first class and his coat texture was superb; 3 McAlisten’s Lochfyne Robbie The Pict.

Jd (5) 1 Wildstar Wedgewood; 2 Thorn-Andrews’ Drakesleat Spaghetti Junct. Attractive headed youngster of pleasing type. I do like the heads on the Dreakesleat Hounds, good head carriage, lengthy neck and good topline, the winner scored in front, coat and body condition; 3 Russell’s Kevocklea Twelfth Knight.

SYD (2) 1 Waters’ Stargang Bolt From The Blue. Well bodied lad with good forechest, movement ok, would like harsher coat; 2 Livingston’s Nordham Harris Tweed.

PGD 1 Scott’s Daisarch Dashing Dudley. Presented a pleasing outline, with good forechest, top and underline, coat of good texture, movement ok; 2 Powell’s Forbell Blackcap.

LD (7) 1 Thorn-Andrews’ Drakesleat Russel Sprout. What an attractive youngster, pleasing outline with balanced angulation, best of heads, masculine with strength of foreface, lovely expression, scored in sound forehand construction, well filled oval front, neat elbows, good bone and feet, good body length, well rounded rump and neat hocks, moved soundly and with more reach and drive than other class winners. CC and BOB on maturity and showmanship; 2 Presnail’s Dacatec Jackoozee. Typy young man who pleased in outline, another with the essential forehand construction required of a Dachshund (many are flat in front and do not have the prominent pro-sternum and well filled oval front) well constructed firm body all wrapped up in harsh textured jacket. Could not match winner in freedom of movement; 3 Scott’s Daisarch Fudge Sundae.

OD (5) 1 Wilberg and Lampero’s Ch Freckle-Face Kind Of Blue. No nonsense type of d what you see is what you get, excelled in outline, balanced angulation front and rear, firm well covered body with lengthy well sprung ribs, well muscled hindquarters and short hocks, harsh jacket with excellent leg hair, so many have woolly legs, has the build to move out better than he did on this surface; 2 Horswell’s Drakesleat Surely You Jest. Beautifully headed young man, I liked his inquisitive nature on the table, chunky outline and good balance, very unsettled on this flooring and would not co-operate with handler, would prefer a harsher jacket; 3 Mueller’s Keep Kool Drakesleat. The puppy bitch classes were filled with excellent youngsters which is very promising for the breed.

MPB (7) 1 Kugow and Holt’s Waldmeister Meadow. An absolute gem at her first show, 6 mths 2 days, I was completely bowled over by her, she stands absolutely four square without the need to be pulled into shape, her construction was spot on, her topline and underline a joy, excellent bone, feet and front, chunky hindquarters with short hocks, jacket and presentation first class, she was so happy and inquisitive, shows so much potential. CC; 2 Wilberg’s Kanix Audrey. Another lovely prospect with stunning outline, excellent jacket, went freely and easily but insisted on flying her tail; 3 Russell’s Shelsall Eri Beri Now Russteck.

PB (8) 3 lovely pups. 1 Blackburn’s Stargant Xquisite. What a lovely youngster, well balanced in outline, good head carriage, beautiful oval front (the Stargangs really score in this requirement of the Standard) coat texture excellent; 2 Presnail’s Taree Xanthippe. Close up not quite the outline of the winner but with good length of ribbing and fabulous coat; 3 Price’s Samlane Imogen.

JB (7) 1 Presnail’s Taree Winnonah. Lovely head and expression, balanced outline, very sound on the move, all wrapped in an excellent coat, when she gains in confidence after her setback could really go places; 2 Russell’s Kevocklea Knight In Gael. Larger frame, scored in outline and was well presented, not quite the forehand of 1; 3 Rathbone’s Brialind Evita.

SpYB (3) 1 Thorn Andrews’ Drakesleat Guilty Me Lud. Another quality youngster out of the Drakesleat mould, scored in head and outline, very neat, balanced angulation front and rear enabling her to move out freely, would ideally prefer coat to be harsher in texture; 2 Stevens’ Barkesvale Wysteria. Most attractive exhibit with more cobby build, really good forechest and pro sternum, would prefer more body length and was not as neat in front movement as winner; 3 Nealis-Visard and Nield’s Charnealis Destinys Child.

PGB (5) 1 Scott’s Daisarch Something Special. A clear winner in this class, long, low and level, kept a good outline on the move and showed good reach and drive, good jacket, attention to nails would improve feet; 2 Miller’s Scotmariner Lode Star. Looked attractive with good outline on the stand, pleased in head, moved a little wide in front action and did not have the scope of 1; 3 McAlisten’s Lochfyne Glamour Puss.

LB (9) An excellent class. 1 Blackburn’s Stargang Mystical Finnish. Such an attractive exhibit, lovely feminine head, oval, well filled front, reachy neck into good topline kept on the move. Moved out really well; 2 Morton’s Cotherstone Tammy The Tyke. Another with a super oval front, good in outline and firm topline, good on the move, thought she was just a touch too low; 3 Hutchings and Cocozza’s Molloney Kiss Me Quick.

OB (10) A difficult class with a mix of types. 1 Blackburn’s Stargang Lauralee Land Of Song. V neat and attractive exhibit of lovely size with the trade mark “Stargant front” (prominent pro sternum with oval well filled front) neat elbows, balanced outline with good angulation front and rear, presentation as always first rate. Res CC; 2 Wilberg’s Stargang Magical Finnish At Kanix. Such a lovely exhibit, pleased in head and outline, excellent coat texture but would look better for more furnishings, moved out soundly; 3 Mueller’s Ch Rabymere Pooh Bare.
