I was invited to take over his appointment from the late Ken Sinclair. It sounds clichéd but more than ever today proved that you have to judge what is in front of you on the day. Along with the bad weather conditions of rain and wind the Dachshunds had to contend with long grass , which was longer when we had to go into wet weather tent. A majority of exhibits whom I preferred in type did not perform and handle the conditions as well as others and had to pay the consequences ; movement in particular suffered greatly with many not showing a consistent gait and instead jumping around from one track to another.
General comments ; some narrow fronts instead of a good full oval thorax , some quarters higher than the withers due to incorrect pelvis and rear angulations. I do feel that generally since the last time I judge this variety that there are a few more with bigger frames.
The exhibitors were very sporting and tried to navigate todays conditions’ as best they could. I also found that considering what has already been said the dogs in general demonstrated good temperaments.

1ST 1962 - Sanmik Captain at Welingtonway (Mrs K J & Mr Dl Gunter)
Not taking anything away from this young but on first view I would have gone with the second placed pup. He has a good conical head which is masculine but not coarse, well boned , good ribbing, needs to tighten in elbows. To his credit he did handle the ground better and maintained more positive reach and drive in profile. He does have a bigger frame than second but today was the better and more mature showman, liked his temperament.
2ND 1955 - Indiko Fire and Ice (Mrs K M Drady)
More my type, lovely head and eye with good pigmentation , good neck and fore chest , well ribbed , strong quarters to go over, unfortunately he was just not cooperating on the move and was jumping around and never maintained a full stride.

1ST 1977 - Scrumptious Red On The Dot JW (Mrs C May)
Red of good type and quailty , liked his head and good pigmentation, good forechest and ribbing of good length and depth, used his quarters well on the move , front movement a little close today.
2ND 1960 - Hanburydax Life of Riley (Mrs V Findlay)
He has good eye shape , good neck and well ribbed , top line held on the move, he will gain more confidence with experience.

Quality boy of lovely size and balance, good head and expression, well-constructed front which is well filled, well ribbed with correct underline and topline , short strong loins, sound through the quarters, moving with accuracy fore and aft but coping so well with today’s conditions with his drive and scope in profile , CC and BOB
2ND 1991 - Ch Ralines Just Jiles (Mrs A Wallace)
Another high quality male of a lovely type, he has a lovely head and expression, good front assembly, ribbing good for length and depth, quarters well angulated , felt at times his head was not into it today and his handler could have got more out of him, however his overall quality and type won him the RCC

2ND 1954 - Indiko Eternal Flame (Mr S Webster
Another quality puppy who pushed hard, she also has good angulation front and rear, well ribbed, retained a good outline on the move and again demonstrated good reach and drive, just felt today the first was a little more accurate fore and aft, sure these will change places in the future

Loved her head and eye which provides that typical expression and quality stamp, super quality bone into good feet, sound front assembly which is well filled, well ribbed with good underline, strong through the quarters, today she was a little over exuberant particularly in the challenge , but could not be denied her placing in the class.

Pretty feminine girl of lovely size and balance with correct height to length ratio, sound front which is full with good width, well ribbed back, correct topline and short strong loins, good feet, well angulated quarters which she used to advantage on the move, it was her accuracy and continuous positive driving action in today’s conditions that won her the class and CC.

Really liked this 8 year old for her quality , size and balance throughout. Feminine quality stamp , front and quarters are well constructed , front is well filled in, well ribbed with correct top and underlines, good quality bone into strong tight feet, on the move she is accurate and parallel and demonstrated good ground coverage in profile, pushed hard in the challenge just felt the CC winner gave a little more in profile. RCC and best Veteran.
