MINIATURE LONG HAIRED

May I thank exhibitors for accepting my first decision to be judged outside. Although the wind was decidedly chilly, the dogs could be seen in more natural surroundings, and after all, they are hounds. As judging progressed, I was disappointed that so many suffered the ongoing fault of upright shoulders, often combined with short ribbing. May I respectfully suggest that that reference is made to the KC breed standard concerning both the angulation and placement of the upper arm and shoulder blades together with perhaps, further guidance from Sayers Illustrated Standard of Points.

PD (4, 1) 1. Shutt’s Donnadoon Diplomat, a promising young dog of generally sound construction and positive movement around the ring. 2. Kennedy’s Denkena Vanilla Moon, a larger size of dog, well boned and good round front feet, but too upright in shoulder. 3. Warren & Rowell’s Jadag Continental Diplomat.

JD (1, 0) 1. Oxley’s Dinkidax Tidal Wave, would not settle on the table but looked well enough on the move.

PGD (6, 1) 1. Colley & Buchan’s Stainsacre the Riddler, nice outline on the table with good dachshund feet. Correct shoulders and long ribbing supported a solid top-line on the move. 2. Brook’s Lyndarlea Piper Kris, short ribbing and upright shoulders contributed to terrier type front movement. 3. Oxley’s Wildhatch Cropston Boy of Dinkidax.

LD (4, 0), not a top rate class! 1. Brook’s Lyndarlea Choc Ice, again, upright shoulders but got around the ring with good drive from behind. 2. King’s Kingsdax Regal Knight, more interested in the adjacent ring on the table making assessment difficult, however moved soundly. 3. Brook’s Lyndarlea Earth Tremor.

OD (3, 0) 1. Buchan & Colley’s Ebony Night Runner at Helenium, a handsome black and tan boy. Masculine head with well-shaped eye, correct shoulders and extended ribbing giving a firm top-line, which was maintained on the move. My ‘dog of the day’, I was delighted to award him DCC and BOB, and to watch him give a good account of himself in the Big Ring. 2. Jamieson’s Djeata Riven within the Ring, a little shorter than the winner but again had a good head and excellent shoulders and a very free jaunty movement, another fine dog. RDCC. 3. Brook’s Dark Night Black Magic at Lyndarlea.

PB (4, 1) 1. Mee’s Barlaines Bobby’s Girl, unsettled on the table requiring much handling which made detailed assessment difficult. However on the ground she presented a very good outline with an easy driving movement. 2. Brook’s Lyndarlea Lacey, a feminine puppy with good rear driving movement but short ribs. 3. Layton’s Lyndarlea Sepember Girl

JB (4, 0) 1. Boyle’s Zarcrest Black Magic, an excellent black and tan girl, well presented to make her show her best points. Nice feminine head correct shoulders with a good front and rib length and moving with freedom and drive. 2. Mee’s Barlaines Country Classic, more at ease than her litter sister in the previous class and a close runner up to the winner of this class. However I was pleased to award her BP. 3. Kennedy’s Denkena Black Berry.

PGB (5, 1) 1. Bainbridge’s Dakboro Debonair at Helenium, a well-balanced bitch with good front and ribs and well placed shoulders. A true mover. 2. Brook’s Lyndarlea Shutt the Door, long and low but ribs and keel not in proportion. Moved with strong rear drive. 3. Patterson’s Wilmarana Blue Diamond.

LB (6, 0) 1. Hanney’s Bronia Serenity, worth waiting for, a lovely red bitch presented in good coat and hard condition. Excellent front and shoulders and moved with ease around the ring. BCC. 2. Bainbridge’s Lynbain Lady Liza, another well constructed bitch but of lighter bone than the class winner. 3. Crawley’s Gilldax Oberonia at Doujac

OB (4, 1) 1. Geeson’s Abydachs Attitude (JW), this bitch looked well both standing and on the move. Unfortunately, she could not match the muscular condition of the CC winner in the challenge. RBCC. 2. Shutt’s Jadag Kadbry Rose of Donnadoon, an aptly named chocolate dapple, a feminine head, good front and strong movement, but short on ribbing. 3. Mee’s Barlaines Be My Valentine.
