I was asked to stand in as judge for Miniature Long Haired Dogs as the scheduled judge Mrs Joanne Wilson had to withdraw for health reasons. I was pleased with my main winners but I was disappointed to find an increasing number of short, broad heads and large round eyes.

MPD (8) 1 Brooks' Lindarlea CrËme De Menth. 6 mth cream. Lovely head and eye, lengthy body, v elegant and sound mover; 2 Sharkey's Magic Melody. Another cream baby of 6 mths. Lower, heavier boned type. Good head and eye with v black points. Nails could be darker but this can be a problem in this colour. Moved soundly keeping a good outline; 3 Metcalfe's Metadale Standing Ovation.

PD (11) 1 Hanney's Bronia Star Of Oz. Handsome B/T. 10 mth d. Strong masculine head with well shaped eye, good body construction. Well turned stifle and short hocks. Moved soundly with drive keeping a good outline. Rather over coated at the moment but when he sheds his puppy coat should have a fabulous coat and will be pushing hard for top honours; 2 Burgin's Melvalley Magnatism. Strong red d. Not quite the forechest or eye shape of winner but earned his place on overall construction and sound movement; 3 Folkes' Diquest Really Red.

JD (9) 1 and Res CC Angear's Ridgegrove Cuddley Dudley. This B/T boy epitomises the ë3 Ls', long, low and level, not so low that he loses elegance, just enough to fit the standard. Strong head on good neck, good forechest, well constructed body, correct angulation. Lovely outline both standing and moving; 2 Brace's Ralines Sunny Delight With Xemxija. Cream with quality head and eye. Well constructed and sound on the move. Gave way to 1st on overall outline on the move; 3 Norton's Halunke Mr Baggins.

ND (3) 1 O'Kelly's Sanmik Golden Jubalee. Red boy from JD. Small sound d. Won here on outline moving; 2 Cooper's Jumanda's Hot Chocolate. 8 mth baby from the MPD class. Looks lovely standing but just runs up behind on the move at the moment. Hopefully this will correct itself as he matures.

PGD (11) 1 Lockett's Ralines Dumbledore. Shaded cream d. V typical of this kennel. Sound construction. Positive mover, oozes elegance. Perhaps a little too refined in head for a male but won here with ease; 2 Graver's Melvalley Midnight Star. B/T d. Wel bodied. Good outline standing and moving driving well from the rear. I would prefer finer head and smaller eye; 3 Jamieson's Djeata Riven Within The Ring.

LD (10) 1 Harrison's Lacerking Jack Pot. Lengthy B/T d. Masculine head with well shaped eye. Sound construction. Good feet sadly lacking in a lot of exhibits. Firm body. Moved well with drive; 2 Brooks' Maundowne Mutineer At Lyndarlee. Smaller B/T. Good forechest and ribbing. Moved soundly. Just not the elegance of 1; 3 Young's Willowheath Del Boy.

OD (12) 1 Jamieson's Airwaves To Carlang Via Dieata. B/T d I have judged before. He has v good construction and good feet. Keeps his outline both standing and moving; 2 Croxford's Ch Arbroath Mr Mackinnon. Good red d. Attractive dark pigmentation around eyes. Well constructed with good feet. Moved soundly. Just lost out on length to 1; 3 Dunn's Ch Ashridge Private Ryan.

SP O B/T (1) 1 Mee's Barlaines Crusader. Lovely headed d. Good length of body. Moved well. Would prefer a flatter coat. S O DAPPLE (1) 1 Brooks' Diquest Galaxy At Lyndarlee. Smart moving Choc/Dapple. Nice head, good deep body. Held his topline both standing and moving.

SO AOC (4) 1 CC and BOB Roberts' Denver Jack Frost. Stunning cream d. Excellent head with small, correctly shaped dark eye. Dark pigmentation giving the finishing touches. V well constructed with correct angulation fore and aft. Moved soundly keeping a lovely outline. I loved him and together with my co judge had no hesitation making him BOB; 2 Croxford's Sandwells Cardinal At Arbroath. Smaller red boy of nice make and shape. Res in Jun. Moved soundly with drive to win 2nd place; 3 Williamson's Barkroyal Wot A Craka.

MINIATURE LONG HAIRED BITCHES: A lovely entry awaited me full of quality for which I thank you most warmly. All dogs were new to me, I have not judged MLH in the UK since Midland Counties 1993. I was looking for a well balanced Hound of great quality, moving soundly, supremely fit, well presented and with an excellent temperament, presentation and showmanship all play a big part to win top awards. Competition was strong in most classes, many very good dogs went away cardless but I judged as I saw them on the day, there is always another day I say ìIt's an honour to compete and to win a bonusî.

MPB (11) 1 Angear's Ridgegrove Celebration. 6 mth red, full of quality, good conformation, has all the essentials for one so young. Moved true, well trained, handled and presented. Most promising as was 2 Boyle's Zarcrest Black Magic. 8 mth black/tan. Another I liked v much, v little separates these two. Would like to see them both on grass, two lovely pups who will surely do well in the future; 3 Young's Willowheath Hot Gem. 6 mth B/T. Another good one for the future.

PB (19) 1 Davis' Corrinbar Blue Angel. 10 mth silver dapple. Quality of good conformation, feminine head, good eye, looked good both standing and on the move, ribbing carried well back, good quarters, moved soundly, lovely flat silver dapple coat. Well presented and handled; 2 Geeson's Abydachs Aphrodisiac. 10 mth black/tan. Quality well constructed body, good movement; 3 Roberts' Denvers Babycham. Nearly year old red.

JB (8) Super class. 1 McLean's Maxwin Lady Dadonna. RBCC. 15 mth quality red of excellent conformation showing such a lovely outline both standing and on the move, feminine head, dark eye, good bone and feet. Well balanced, moved soundly, well presented and handled; 2 Angear's Ridgegrove Camilla. BPIB with my co-Judge. 10 mth black/tan of quality. Looked good both standing and on the move, v feminine head and eye, deep body, good bone and feet. Well handled and presented, v close decision. Madonna won on maturity; 3 Norton's Miss Eleanor. 16 mth red. Well balanced red of quality. NB (5) 1 Halsall's Cishelvine Petite Coquette For Kiddles. B/T. 2 Forster- Cooper's Africandawns Poly Perks. Red; 3 Cope's Ingasheim Rioja. B/T. Three puppies who need time, will probably enjoy the summer shows.

PG (16) 1 Burgin's Melvalley Maid Of The Night. B/T quality scores well in most departments. Moved well showing a good outline keeping her topline. Well handled; 2 Jensen's Albaneys Skoda. B/Cr of good quality and substance, showing a good outline both standing and on the move, v close decision. Just preferred movement of 1 today. Well presented; 3 Duchesne's Scandell's Ring Of Dreams.

L (19) A superb class, first five deserved a first. 1 BCC Butler's Drymoor Secret Delight. 4 yr old shaded cream of great quality, classic feminine lovely b in good bloom, good head, expressive eye, good strong bone and feet, long well arched neck running into well placed shoulders, topline kept on the move, ribbing carried well back to strong hindquarters. A glamour girl in real show condition. Flowed soundly round the ring. So well presented and handled. Pleased to award her 2nd CC. Hope her crowning CC is not far away; 2 Goddard's Minard Krystal Darque. Top class B/T showing super outline both standing and on the move. Well balanced, full of quality, seriously considered for RCC. Just preferred length of Madonna; 3 Boyle's Zarcrest Gold Designer. Glamorous red beautifully groomed, v eye catching, shown to perfection.

O (13) 1 Thomas' Shenaligh Sweet Symphony. Red of great quality. Well balanced of good construction. Moving Soundly. Well presented and handled; 2 Young's Willowheath Magic Rainbow. Choc/Brindle. Well constructed quality sound. Would like to see her on grass. Well handled; 3 Hall's Gayville's Double Take. B/T of quality. V little separated these three quality bitches.

SO B/T (5) 1 Geeson's Bronia Fleur De Lys At Abydachs; 2 Chappell's Melvalley Maid In Black At Wynnum; 3 Murphy's Classidax Dangerously Good.

SO DAPPLE (3) 1 Shutt's Jadag Kadbry Rose Of Donnadoon; 2 Young's Willowheath Magic Rainbow.

AOC (2) 1 Shutt's Donnadoon Passion Flower At Rhinestar; 2 Burgin's Melvalley Midnight Gold.
