Thank you for your entries, one of my favourite varieties to judge & today was no exception. The quality of youngsters certainly gives you the impression that competition will remain keen for sometime to come & long may this continue. Two classes especially where a joy to judge just because of the sheer quality of the exhibits right down the line, Limit Dog & Puppy Bitch had many in my opinion many top class CC quality Miniature Smooth’s, it’s classes like these that really make judging appointments enjoyable & exciting for the right reasons. Muscle condition has also improved, it’s so good to see a well conditioned dog that clearly gets exercise & this most certainly reflects in a dogs movement. My absolute main concern is size, having bred & owned Miniatures for many years I am well aware of the challenges faced to keep them a desired size, I’ve never been one that would dismiss an exhibit for being over 11lbs & in the past even with scales have awarded top honours to some just over this. However, just like the majority of you I would like this delightful variety to remain Miniature & not develop into Midi Dachshunds. A few as usual with wrinkle especially on their forelegs & some with loose skin covering their body which really doesn’t appeal. Shoulders where good here & quarters I feel have improved & this showed in the lovely big flat ring we had here. My two Stewards where beyond amazing, fun, precise & we worked so well together getting through two varieties with fabulous entries in good time. As usual I like to take notes on each exhibit, dogs are judged at that moment in time just as it should be & my placements reflected this, no need to over handle a Min Smooth in my opinion, a simple hands on confirms all the eye has seen when the dog moves with the exception of Teeth & Tails!. For many reasons Three Counties has always been one of my ‘Heart’ shows & this year I was delighted to be a part of it, the atmosphere & ringside applause just adds to a perfect assignment, thank you
Minor Puppy Dog (3)
1st: HANNEY-MITCHELL Bronia Maximillien, 7 month Fawn that gives a really appealing overall picture, especially in profile. Super head & expression with the darkest of points all through, long well arched neck leading into very good shoulders, even at this age the angles are quite precise. Ribbing extends well back with correct top & underlines, loins are short & well filled, well made behind with strong & neat parallel hocks. Sound enough for a baby coming & going, in profile he carries himself so well, lovely head carriage, retains all that is good about him & his hind action is quite unique with super reach & follow through clearly showing a clean pair of pads, certainly full of promise
2nd: BULLIS Amaffrey Sirius Black, such a beautiful type, 7 month B/T, masculine while remaining miniature, he too is so very promising, stunning head & expression, dark almond shaped eyes, well arched neck, tight elbows on super bone & feet, plenty of width throughout, ribbing is so well sprung for a youngster, correct top & underline, short strong loins, quarters are well developed & strong, hocks are short & neat. Coming towards me he is very sound although still a little untidy going away which will no doubt improve. Another well schooled baby with a natural head carriage & shows lovely action with good reach & follow through whilst retaining a lovely outline, one I liked very much
3rd: HUGHES Swingletrees Harlequin By Lindella’s
Puppy Dog (3,2)
1st: TITE Rijobeau Well I Never, over the years I have had the pleasure of judging many beautiful dogs from this clever breeder & one thing that struck me is that his ‘Type’ remains the same & here is no exception. Super smart 10 month B/T that is quality throughout, very good head, good strong jaws, long well arched neck that he uses so well on the move, very good shoulders, very good bone & feet. Prominent breastbone with plenty of width throughout, ribbing is well developed & extends well back, firm backline & gradual underline, short strong loins, correctly set tail which is a clear continuation of the spine, well made quarters on the neatest strongest hocks. Quite precise coming & going & the ultimate showman in profile which he does so naturally with little effort. He is the overall package, BPD & pushed very hard for more, without any doubt in my mind will go onto greater things, good luck!
Junior Dog (4,1)
1st: JENNINGS Stargang Rusty Nail at Jenivon, This 12 month red headed a lovely class of three smart youngsters. Lovely head & expression with the darkest of points throughout, long well arched neck that lead into good shoulders with the tightest of elbows, well developed front, has the most amazing feet, tight & so well bunched, ribbing is well developed & has the correct height to length ratio’s, strong well made quarters with plenty of length of second thigh, ultra sound coming towards me & sound enough going away, really impresses in profile, everything flows & clearly shows free reaching & driving action especially from behind which is where he scored over 2, gleaming condition & so well muscled too!
2nd: FLEMING Brogansian Fleetwood, 15 month B/T, loved his type, shorter coupled than 1 but totally in proportion, loved his head & expression, masculine without any sign of being overdone, darkest of almond shaped eyes & good strong jaws, enough neck leading into good shoulders, plenty of forechest & width throughout, his keel is long & extends well under his front legs, well sprung ribbing leading into short strong loins, tail correctly set, quarters are hammy & well muscled. Ultra sound coming towards me & parallel moving away if a little wide, goes well in profile & retains all that is good about him, here just not matching the follow through from behind in the same way as 1. No doubting his overall quality
3rd: HUGHES Spring Forn Restinim
Graduate Dog (4,1)
1st: METCALFE-BILGIN Metadale Aloysius, 2 year s/red with the most stunning head & expression, correct ratios from muzzle to skull with ears correctly set & have the desired length, long well arched neck that he uses so well to project himself on the move, well developed front on the very best set of feet, prominent breastbone with good length of keel, ribbing is well sprung & extends well back, short strong loins, well made quarters that are well muscled & strong, hocks are neat & parallel. Ultra sound coming towards me & sound enough going away. His profile action is clean & free moving with his natural head carriage on a loose lead, certainly has type & style
2nd: ERGIS Brogansian Battlecry For Siouxline, 10 month brindle, still quite raw & has some maturing to do which is just how they should be at this age, loved his head & expression with the darkest of points throughout, plenty of strength in his underjaw, long well arched neck, very good angulation in his shoulders & correct return of upper arm, plenty of forechest that sits nicely in his crook, very good feet, ribbing extends well back with a firm backline & correct underline, could be shorter in loin & still needs to firm up in quarters which no doubt he will. Although he moves quite soundly out & back he still has some tightening up to do, goes well in profile & retains an attractive outline. Loved his colour & markings too!
3rd: REYNOLDS Kleinstar Blue Moon
Post Graduate Dog (3)
1st: JENNINGS Jenivon’s Starfinch, lovely type, 15 month B/T & a real showman. Very good head & expression with good strong jaws, long well arched neck, prominent breastbone, excels in ribbing that is well sprung & extends well back, correct in top & underlines, short thick loins, quarters are strong with neat, short parallel hocks. He has enough angulation & certainly makes the most of what he has. Sound enough coming & going, keeps it together in profile & retains an appealing outline, a born showman who knows his job enchanced by his happy outgoing personality!
2nd:HERALD Sonorra Dark Treacle at Winterfield, 3 year B/T, appealed for his overall quality & ultra soundness, fair head & expression, good dark points throughout, well arched neck leading into good shoulders, tight elbows, well developed forehand with plenty of width throughout, ribbing is long & well sprung loins are strong & well filled. He too has enough angulation in his quarters but they are certainly strong & well muscled without any sign of weakness. Coming & going he is ultra sound & very precise, retains a good outline in profile with a lovely neck carriage & firm outline. A shade more of him than 1but all in proportion for him. Rock hard condition & it shows
3rd: REYNOLDS Kleinstar Moongazer
Limit Dog (10,5), Such a lovely class to sort out, headed by two litter brother’s who both became my eventual winners
1st: MELBOURNE & CARROLL & PAGET Bronia Gustave of Melriding, no doubting the outstanding quality of this beautiful 2 ½ year S/red. Really masculine & solid without being overdone or exaggerated in any way. Stunning head & expression, dark points throughout, small almond shaped eyes. Strong jaws & big teeth, ears correctly set & of the desired length, long well arched neck lead into copy book shoulders, correct in upper arm ^ the tightest of elbows. Plenty of forechest & width throughout, all sits so tightly & neatly together, the very best of bone & feet, underline is a clear gradual extension of his keel & his rock solid topline sits on well sprung ribs that extend well back. Short & strong loins, his quarters are so well muscled, strong & hammy with the desired amount of angulation especially in second thigh, tail is correctly set & a clear continuation of his spine. Hocks are neat, short & parallel when ever you look at them. Ultra sound & precise coming & going, while in profile his natural head carriage on a loose lead adds to the overall attraction, correct in ground clearance, superb reach & follow through which he does with ease. His condition stole the show for me, a fit, active, solid free moving young man that is totally free from exaggeration who ended up taking his second CC & eventually BOB, a sure fired Champion if ever there was one!
2nd: WILKINSON & WAKEMAN Bronia Gabriel for Wakywilks JW, taking The RCC here & pushing his litter brother all the way & it really was personal preference. Another who should easily make it to the upper house. Good ratio’s in skull from muzzle to skull & good strong jaws. He uses his long well arched neck to his greatest advantage at all times but especially on the move. Good clean shoulders & tight elbows on the best of bone & feet, prominent breastbone & plenty of width throughout, ribbing is well sprung & extends well back on cast iron top & correct underlines, short well filled loins, quarters are solid & well angulated, hocks are short, neat & parallel at all times. He too is so well muscled & conditioned throughout & this especially shows on the move where his action out & back is precise & accurate. Love his outline in profile moved at the correct easy pace clearly demonstrating all that is good about him. Clever breeder who can clearly continue to produce correctly made Miniature Dachshunds, not just for herself but for others too as these two lucky owners have two beautiful examples of the breed & both certainly deserve their Titles, good luck!
3rd: COROMINAS Scenterbay Rafael For Ruichango JW
Open Dog (3), Three very good B/T Boys here, all of them with virtues that appealed to me, this how they placed on the day for me
1st: HANNEY-MITCHELL Ch Bronia Daimmen, loved his overall proportions & ultra soundness, free from exaggeration & being so well made your hands just flow going over him. Strong masculine head, big teeth & strong jaws, strong well arched neck, very good shoulders & return of upper arm, tight elbows on the best of legs & stunning feet. Prominent breastbone that all fits neatly into his crook, ribbing is well sprung on a good solid backline. Short thick loins, he excels in quarters & angulation on the shortest neatest hocks. Ultra sound coming & going, covers the ground in style in profile, your eyes are certainly drawn to his driving quarters that really reach & follow through showing a good clean pair of pads. So beautifully conditioned & muscled throughout
2nd: O’CONNELL Ch Rijobeau Rumours With Llennocor Jw, Preferred his head & touch longer body length to 1. Correct ratio’s from muzzle to skull, darkest of almond shaped eyes, long well arched neck that he uses all the time. His shoulders are quite precise too, another with the perfect upper arm, plenty of width & depth through his front, feet not as tightly bunched as 1, correct in top & underlines, ribbing is well sprung & extends well back, tail is correctly set & carried, quarters are strong & he has enough angulation. Shade longer in hocks than 1, sound enough out & back & retains a lovely silhouette in profile covering the ground in style but not quite having the full follow through behind as 1 today. Certainly full of quality & beautifully put down
3rd: TITE Rijobeau Give Em the Boot
Veteran Dog (1)
1st: JENNINGS Duddondaxs Judge Jude for Jenivon, 9 yr red in amazing condition, he was clearly loving every minute of his time here, very good head & expression, long well arched neck leading into very good shoulders, tight elbows on the best of legs & feet, good forechest & plenty of width throughout, ribbing extends well back with a solid topline, short strong loins, correctly set tail & carriage, firmly made quarters. So sound coming & going especially for his age, in profile he is the ultimate showman full of determination & attitude, clearly got places to go to & investigate, something he still does with an easy free gait. A real credit to his owner BV
Minor Puppy Bitch (7,3)
1st: DALTON Llansansior Empress, well made 6 month red, still carrying lots of puppy fat ( & rightly so!) but still the soundest mover in this class today. Good head & dark points throughout, ears correctly set & of the desired length, well arched neck, well laid shoulders that will continue to improve & tighten, plenty of forehand & width throughout, loved her neat tightly bunched feet, ribbing extends well back to very good quarters, her angulation & second thigh are there & they just need to tighten up, hocks are short & neat. She was quite precise coming & going considering her excess weight & looseness all over. Projects herself in profile, going well with style & confidence, certainly full of promise with lots of time on her side
2nd:STEWARD Luffewich Queen Bee, loved the type of this 6 month B/T, lovely feminine head & expression, darkest of almond shaped eyes, long well arched neck, like 1 her shoulders still need to come back more which I’m sure they will, her front is deep & well filled but she now needs for this to drop in her crook, again something that will happen, very good ribbing that extends well back, correct in top & underline, she has the neatest & shortest hocks that are divine. For one so young she too was quite sound out & back, just needing to drop in that front, lovely in profile showing an outline that’s full of promise too!
3rd: BULLIS Amaffrey Jinny Weasley
Puppy Bitch (10,2) This certainly was a beautiful class of quality young Ladies, with luck several here will go onto exciting things for their lucky owners
1st: HANNEY-MITCHELL Naisha Crespalia Bronia (imp Esp),10 month red that fits todays standard perfectly having the desired height to length ratios & for me her ground clearance gives her that extra edge on her free ground covering movement. Her head & expression is devine, dark points, almond shaped eyes & so ultra feminine, long well arched neck, very good shoulders, prominent breastbone with plenty of width throughout, keel extends well back on the strongest of legs & neatest of feet. Ribbing is well sprung for age, top & underlines are correct, short thick loins & her tail is a clear continuation of her spine. For me she excels in quarters, correct length in second thigh on the strongest most parallel hocks. For one so young she is precise coming & going, her happy outgoing attitude adds to her style & gait in profile, zero effort & the cleanest of pads clearly showing full follow through & extension in quarters. Such an exciting youngster & lucky owner, her first CC (&BP) with the brightest future ahead she will without any doubt collect many more!
2nd: METCALFE-BILGIN Metadale Legacy Of Love, Oh my days, another beautiful youngster who collected The RCC here, so feminine & so well made, her natural head carriage & free flowing movement is a joy to watch. Beautiful head & expression with the darkest almond shaped eyes, ears correctly set & of the desired length, long well arched neck leading into very good shoulders, tight elbows with the correct return of upper arm, deep well filled front that all sits neatly with her prominent breast bone & deep keel that extends well back. Very good body & ribbing leading into the shortest well filled loins. She too excels in hind quarters, enough angulation on good strong parallel hocks. So very sound out & back, her correct reach & follow through from behind together with her natural head carriage on a loose lead certainly makes you look twice. Another with attitude & personality , will without any doubt make it to the upper house, good luck!
3rd: ERGIS Siouxline Elsa Marie

Quarters are super strong & well muscled, she has enough angulation & this reflects in her movement, tail is correctly set & carried at all times. Ultra sound going away & sound enough coming towards me, moves out with style in profile keeping a beautiful outline, rock hard condition & it showed, was certainly close up for bigger things & have no doubt that they will come
2nd: JENNINGS Jenivon’s Lady Lush, smart 18 month B/T that is really lovely to go over on the table, your hands flow into everything that is good about her. Ultra feminine in head & expression, ears correctly set, long well arched neck leading into very good shoulders, tight elbows on the best of legs & feet. Plenty of forechest, long keel, ribbing is long & well sprung on a cast iron backline, short thick loins, she too has just enough length of second thigh & her hocks although a shade longer than 1 are strong & parallel. Very sound coming towards me today & sound enough going away. She also has style in profile with her lovely head carriage which she uses to great advantage, put down to perfection
3rd: WILLIAMS Novavida Summer Sunshine
Graduate Bitch (9,3)
1st: HERALD Winterfield Lady in Red JW, loved the length & proportions of this 21 month red girl, very good head & expression, super big teeth & strong jaws, good length of neck leading into good shoulders, plenty of width throughout, her deep well filled front fits so well on the best of bone & feet, ribbing is long, deep & well sprung, firm backline, a little milky in underline today, short thick loins, her quarters are lovely with the right amount of angulation, hocks are short, neat & strong. Ultra sound coming towards me with clearly no sign of being narrow, goes well in profile especially driving from behind, all done with little effort. On the day with a tidier underline she could have pushed further, clearly has an air of quality about her
2nd: WILKINSON & WAKEMAN Bronia’s Azzurra for Wakywilks, 13 month B/T, another in gleaming condition, loved her size & body proportions, not as feminine in head as 1 & would prefer a more oval shaped eye, long well arched neck, very good shoulders, correct return of upper arm with the tightest of elbows, good legs on the neatest of feet, well filled front with keel extending well back, deep well srung ribbing, very good top & underlines, short thick loins leading into well made hammy quarters that have the strongest & neatest parallel hocks. Not as precise as 1 coming towards me here but ultra sound going away. In profile she clearly shows very good reach in front & good follow through from behind, another extremely happy youngster which is always delightful to see
3rd: RATSEY-WOODROFFE & RIPPON Mulberryisle Lovely Annie For Preziosa
Post Graduate Bitch (5)
1st: WILKINSON & WAKEMAN Wakywilks Celestial JW, really loved this 16 month B/T as she reminded me more of our old breed standard in being more of Long, Low & Level so should certainly appeal to the more old school judge. So elegant & feminine & so beautiful to go over, very good head & expression, good strong jaws, well defined neck which she uses so well to great advantage on the move, very good shoulders with the tightest of elbows, super bone on the neatest tightest of feet. Enough forechest & extension in keel, firm topline, enough ground clearance, very good body & ribbing, short thick loins, good angulation behind, hocks are neat & strong. Sound enough out & back, covers the ground in style & although some would like more length of leg, she clearly demonstrated to me she had enough & could still do the job she was bred to do, one I personally liked very much & whose condition was rock hard & gleaming
2nd: HERALD Winterfield Lucky Star, 23 month B/T, loved her head & expression, dark almond shaped eyes, correct ratios from muzzle to skull, long well arched neck, well laid shoulders, another with super feet being compact & tightly bunched. Plenty of forechest & width throughout, very good ribbing being well sprung & extending well back, well made quarters with enough length of second thigh, tail correctly set & carried, good strong hocks. Ultra sound going away although not as precise as 1 today coming towards me. Lovely in profile, good head carriage on a loose lead. Shade more ground clearance than 1 but still didn’t open her side gait as freely as you would expect which was interesting to see. Another with fabulous muscles & great personality
3rd: FORGE Normpug Apricot Beauty
Limit Bitch (6,2)
1st: HANNEY-MITCHELL Bronia Blayze, 21 month s/red, beautiful type & ultra feminine, a real showgirl too!. Lovely head, dark points throughout, good strong jaws, long well arched neck leading into very good shoulders & tightest of elbows. Well defined forechest that fits correctly with plenty of width throughout. Superb bone & feet, gradual in underline & rock solid in backline, ribbing is well sprung & extends well back, good height to length ratios, short strong loins, tail correctly set & carried at all times, well made hammy quarters with the desired amount of length in second thigh, no sign of weakness in her hocks. Ultra sound coming towards me & sound enough going away, Her proud head carriage in profile draws your eye which is where she clearly demonstrates a long stride with her easy free flowing gait, loads of drive & style with zero effort. Reminded me of Ch Bronia Fabrizia who I gave her first CC to as a puppy many years ago, clearly a consistent clever breeder
2nd: GRAHAM Bronia Camille, 3 yr Red & close up, shade longer in body length but all in proportion & perfectly balanced. Very good head & expression with dark points throughout, long well arched neck leading into very good shoulders with correct return of upper arm, tight elbows on the best of legs & feet. Very good forehand with plenty of width, ribbing is well sprung & extends well back, cast iron topline & clean gradual underline. Short strong loins leading into very well made quarters, hocks are strong & parallel at all times. She was ultra sound coming & going here, moves out well in profile which she does with little effort while retaining a lovely outline. Another who clearly gets exercised & it shows, should prove very useful I would think
3rd: O’CONNELL Rijobeau Rita Bix with Llennocor
Open Bitch (6,1)
1st: MAGRI & O’CONNELL Lokmadi with a Dragon Tattoo, one I have judged before & today she deserved to top this class, 5 year brindle that is very well made, lovely head & expression with the darkest of points, long well arched neck, very good shoulders & tight elbows, very good legs & feet, prominent breast bone that all fits so nicely in her crook, ribbing is deep & well sprung with maybe a little too much covering today!. Short thick loins, tail is correctly set & carried at all times, firm hammy quarters with the desired length of second thigh. Ultra sound today coming towards me with no sign of being narrow, sound enough going away, here she kept a lovely outline in profile with a natural head carriage on a loose lead. No sign of loose skin or wrinkle here which secured her the class & her coat condition was spot on, beautifully handled & presented
2nd: JENNINGS Jenivons Miss Marple, 3 yr red with the darkest of points throughout, correct ratios from muzzle to skull, long well arched neck, good layback to shoulder, elbows could be tighter, impressive forehand that is well filled with her keel extending well past her front legs giving her a lovely gradual underline, very good ribbing & firm backline, short well filled loins, quarters are well made on the neatest & strongest hocks. Sound enough coming & going, a natural showgirl in profile with attitude & presence that certainly attracts your eye. Another quality young lady that should be very useful I would think
3rd: BEACH Beachdax Sweet Melody JW
Veteran Bitch (1)
1st: ROSE Pennydach Mystique At Rosencrantz, 7 yr B/T, so full of life & super proud to show herself off, just loved her attitude & style!. Good head with strong jaws & big teeth, long well arched neck that uses at all times to great advantage, very good shoulders & return of upper arm, good legs & feet, plenty of forechest & width, ribbing is well sprung & extends well back, sleight dip behind the withers which is acceptable, well filled loins, well muscled quarters, tail is a clear continuation of her spine. Her movement coming & going was a shade untidy which wasn’t helped by her eagerness to please!. A real gem in profile, you can’t help but smile & enjoy watching as she certainly lives life to the full. Presented in tip top condition & a real credit to her owner
Daniel Roberts (Judge)
