I would like to thank the committee of the Miniature Dachshund Club for inviting me to judge and to my two very efficient stewards. I would also like to thank the exhibitors for such a well filled quality entry. I was really impressed with the dogs brought under me on the day, I felt the depth of quality had improved since I last judged the breed and I was also impressed with temperaments across the board. My decisions were accepted in a very sporting way and I was delighted to see my BOB and BP both go on to take the top honours in BIS and BPIS.

VD (3/1)

1st: Beachs IZIA KLARA DIFINO (IMP SVN) – super red dog, masculine all through. On the big side but his movement is second to none. Absolutely powered around the ring to win this class with temperament and showmanship an added bonus. The best of heads, lovely dark eye, super neck and forechest with good depth, well muscled, good hind angulation which he used to drive out on the move.

2nd: Jennings DUDDONDAXS JUDGE JUDE FOR JENIVON – another lovely red dog who was unfortunate to come up against 1. Nice head, lovely eye colour & shape, well filled front with good shoulders, good ribbing, hammy quarters. A little shorter in upper arm so didn’t move out with the verve of 1.

MPD (4/2)

1st: Metcalfe-Bilgin’s METADALE SECRET ALLIANCE – lovely chunky puppy, very much a baby still and lovely to see such a happy temperament. Lovely angulation and moved very soundly both front and back. Nice hammy quarters with good turn of stifle and nice short hocks. Not moving out quite as well in front but could come with maturity.

2nd: Herald’s WINTERFIELD BRUTUS MAXIMUS – also very much a baby still and has a lot to develop at this stage. Unfortunately too lacking in forechest for me. Kept a good topline with good length of ribbing, neat short hocks, moved out ok.

Puppy Dog (6/1)

1st: Kent’s LOKMADI CHARLES REX – masculine, well made red dog. Absolutely loved his head, beautiful conical shape with lovely dark almond shaped eyes. Super forechest

with good depth, forelegs fitting tightly stood and coming towards. Good houndy feet. Well laid back ribbing with strong loin, lovely muscle tone, short hocks. Moved out with powerful driving action like he owned the ring. BP and delighted to see him also take BPIS.

2nd: Fleming’s BROGANSIAN FLEETWOOD – Lovely B&T of different type to 1. Appealing make and shape but didn’t have the attitude of 1 and so wasn’t showing himself to advantage.

3rd: Andison’s CLENTRY FLY ON THE WALL

Junior Dog (2/1)

1st: William’s ROZAMIE TIGER FEET – brindle dog who stood alone but a worthy winner. Still some maturing to do but a smart dog, sound and moving out well covering the ground. Lovely to go over with everything in the right place, well angulated front and back.

Yearling Dog (10/2)

1st: Corominas’ SCENTERBAY RAFAEL FOR RUICHANGO – Really liked this smart young dog for his overall type; a hound with ground covering movement, beautiful head on an elegant lengthy neck, good forechest with depth, good bone and feet, super topline throughout and correction proportions. He upped his game in the challenge really striding and driving out. It was his super movement that won him this class and ultimately the RCC.

2nd: Metcalfe-Bilgin’s METADALE ALOYSIUS – Lovely dog of nice type but not making the most of himself when stood today. He had a tendency to lean back into himself giving his handler a hard time which meant he looked heavy over the neck and shoulders, whereas the winner was on form. Really liked his type and he moved well.

3rd: Paget & Carroll’s CLENTRY TIERCEL AT MARVALE

Post Graduate Dog (4/1)

1st: Strange’s BRONIA’S ARMAND AT CAZDACHS - lovely red dog who looked a picture stood with lovely head and neck, correct angulation front and back, solid topline and good bone. Great to see such a happy temperament though it sometimes meant he bunched himself up a bit on the move when he got a bit giddy! Super hind drive.

2nd: Walker & Wiltshire’s MIGHTY MARVIN AT LITTLELIBBS – from the previous class but had relaxed into himself a bit more by this class presenting a nice outline. A smart boy but not the drive of 1.

3rd: Ergis’ AMAFFREY THE SUNDANCE KID AT SIOUXLINE

Limit dog (7/2)

1st: Metcalfe-Bilgin’s METADALE DUE DILIGENCE – Really liked the type on this red dog and he looked absolutely super stood. Had a tendency to get a bit over excited on the move which could just spoil his outline by shortening him but he had super drive really powering him round the ring. Lovely head and neck, good forechest and bone, nice houndy feet and well turned stifle.

2nd: Tite’s RIJOBEAU GIVE EM THE BOOT – smart B&T dog, lengthy elegant neck, good forechest, bone and feet. Upper arm could be better which meant he didn’t have the reach in front of 1 but kept a super topline. Well angulated hindquarters.

3rd: Wilkinson & Wakeham’s BRONIA GABRIEL FOR WAKYWILKS JW

Open Dog (5/0) – a quality class of 5 lovely dogs I had hard decisions to make.

1st: Paget & Carroll’s CH MARVALE FIRECREST – from the first go round watching him covering the ground with ease I thought this is the dog I was looking for, and he didn’t disappoint when looked at in finer detail. Lovely to go over; houndy, masculine head, strong and lengthy neck into well placed shoulders, good depth, forelegs straight and tight to chest with excellent bone and feet. Good ribbing and loin, super topline stood and on the move, well angulated hindquarters with nice short straight hocks. Just loved his outline, movement and balance. DCC.

2nd: Andison’s CH CLENTRY DONNIE DARCO – super smart B&T dog, beautiful type and masculine all through whilst still having elegance, super drive. I felt he wasn’t giving me his all today and could perhaps have done with a bit more body but there’s no denying his quality. His super bone, houndy head, lovely lengthy neck and excellent drive on the move all gave him the edge to take 2nd in this quality class but he gave way in the challenge to a dog who had a bit more showmanship today.

3rd: O’Connell’s CH RIJOBEAU RUMOURS WITH LLENNOCOR JW

Veteran Bitch (4/1)

1st: Ergis’ SIOUXLINE RAPUNZEL WITH MELRIDING – a truly beautiful bitch who at 11 years old looks as good as ever, a true credit to her owner. She is up there with the best and cannot be overlooked in the challenge for the top awards even now. So elegant all through but still with substance and bone, pretty head, beautiful eye and neck, prominent forechest, super topline, good angulation front and back and covers the ground with ease. BV.

2nd: Bullingham’s BOWETTS AVENTURINE AT STOWEYTOP – unfortunate to come up against 1, this is another lady who denies her age. Her greys give it away, but her attitude does not! Lovely happy girl with great drive, super bone, lovely depth, and well angulated hind quarters.

3rd: Rose’s FILLAROSA STARRY NIGHT SKY

Minor Puppy Bitch (9/4)

1st: Metcalfe-Bilgin’s METADALE LEGACY OF LOVE – fell in love with this girl. Very much a raw baby and gave it away for BPIB, but so full of quality. If she had had it together a little more I would have seriously been considering her for the top awards. The prettiest head with lovely kind, dark eyes of correct shape, good length of neck, clean over the withers. Lovely forehand, good ribbing, solid topline, and hammy quarters with good bend of stifle. Sound up and back and lovely striding, driving movement, eating up the ground. Loved her. BPB.

2nd: Johnson’s CHOCOBRANDY’S DREAM GIRL – smart B&T bitch of nice type with a pretty head and neck, lovely tight feet and good bone, good ribbing and lovely hammy hindquarters. Looked lovely stood but just wasn’t moving out as well, bunching herself up a bit.

3rd: Douglas’ DEBBIEJAY PIPPA FUNNEL MIT KIEFERJAGEN

Puppy Bitch (11/6)

1st: Bain’s CLENTRY BUMBLEBEE AT WENICHONES – quality shaded red bitch who topped this good class of puppies. Still has some maturing in body to do and didn’t always show herself to advantage when stacked but of really liked her type, lovely to go over and she moved out very well easily covering the ground. Lovely angles to her, good head and bone, good length and super topline.

2nd: Metcalfe-Bilgin’s METADALE LEGACY OF LIFE – very similar in type to her sister in the previous class. Was very immature in the class of older puppies but the owner should be very proud of these two pups and I will watch their development with interest. A little shorter than her sister and just needs more experience to show her qualities.

3rd: Jennings’ JENIVON’S LADY LUSH

Junior Bitch (10/2)

1st: Melbourne, Paget & Carroll’s MELRIDING SILVER SPANGLE – eye catching silver dapple who looked a picture stacked. Well constructed with super angles front and back, lovely forechest with good depth, hammy hind quarters with good bend of stifle, short hocks, fantastic bone and feet. Moved well keeping a good topline.

2nd: Small’s GLYNLYTHE’S HEIRLOOM FOR DEVONDAX – pretty red bitch of nice type. Lovely head. Shorter in body than 1. Moved out well but just not as steady.

3rd:Herald’s WINTERFIELD LADY IN RED JW

Yearling Bitch (7/3)

1st: Beach’s BEACHDAX GIRL OF MY DREAMS – cracking bridle bitch who stood out. Lovely head, super forehand with good forechest, excellent depth of body and spring of rib giving plenty of heart room, powerful hindquarters which she used on the move to really drive out. Super bone and body, kept a good topline throughout. Pushed hard in the challenge.

2nd: Muggleton’s SWEET CREATURE – sweet red bitch who was enjoying her day! Moved well when she kept her tail steady but had a tendency to flag it when getting a bit over excited which shortened her and threw her movement. Lovely head and forechest and kept a good topline.

3rd: Herald’s WINTERFIELD LUCKY STAR

Post Graduate Bitch (14/7)

1st: Bain’s CLENTRY REWRITE THE STARS AT WENICHONES – attractive B&T bitch, of lovely type and very elegant. Not overdone in any way. Nice head and dark almond shaped eye, lengthy neck into well placed shoulders with good length of upper arm, front legs tight to chest and sound on the move front and back. Good hind angulation with well turned stifle. Moved well with verve, covering the ground well.

2nd: Roberts & Smiths ROZAMIE MAGIC MOMENTS – close up to 1, but was not playing ball on the stack. Lovely to see her free stand, but unfortunately it seemed there were too many distractions in the hall today. Lovely make and shape and very nice on the move.

3rd: Corefield’s RUSSETCOPSE’S TOFFEE APPLE

Limit Bitch (14/4)

1st: Crocker, Frost, Carroll & Paget’s RIVERBRUE JUNIPER BERRY – as soon as this class came in, this girl stood out to me. I loved her stood, I loved her on move and I loved her to go over. Everything so well proportioned and correct, a standard in miniature. Beautiful houndy head, kind, dark, almond-shaped eyes, lengthy slightly arched neck without coarseness, good lay back of shoulder, lovely prominent well-filled forechest with legs tight to chest, excellent bone and substance whilst still being elegant and feminine. The best of hindquarters with good bend of stifle and length of second thigh, short neat hocks. Sound coming and going and eating the ground up effortlessly in profile using those hindquarters to really drive out. Pleased to award her the CC & BOB in super competition, her 1st I’m told, but I’m sure wont be her last. Even happier to see her go on to win BIS.

2nd: Flemings BROGANSIAN GINGERELLA — compact red bitch who was finer in type that 1. Good forechest and depth of body, good ribbing, nice tight feet. Moved out well with good drive and keeping a super topline.

3rd: Beer, William & Moes’ GELLIJAMS FIREWORKS AT CWMDARHIAN

Open Bitch (7/0) – a lovely class of bitches who could swap places on a different day.

1st: Beach’s BEACHDAX SWEET MELODY JW – Loved this red bitch who topped this strong open bitch class, and she pushed hard for the CC. Super smart with lovely make and shape. Feminine, conical, classy head shape with correct eyes and lengthy neck, prominent deep forechest, good bone, strong loin and well angulated hindquarters. Moved out well with super hind drive keeping a good topline and wagging her tail as she went. RCC. A worthy champion and I’m sure her title will come soon.

2nd: Jenning’s JENIVONS MISS MARPLE – a super moving little bitch with great reach and drive. Longer in type than 1, head feminine but would prefer more length to her muzzle, super angles front and back and kept a perfect topline.

3rd: Kent’s LOKMADI OH WHAT A CIRCUS
