Southern Dachshund Association Sub-Group Championship Show Sunday 15th January 2023 I was very honoured to be invited to judge Miniature Smooth Dachshunds for the club and had a very good entry, thank you. Sadly there seems to be a decline in quality which only made the better stock stand out. A few with dirty or bad teeth and long nails were being shown today. I always thought when showing you turn your dog out in tip-top condition. Veteran Dog or Bitch (3) 1. Smith & Connors Ch Bronia Gregorio JW ShCM 11yrs old Black and Tan dog still knew how to move Conical head with a good eye set on a enough reach of neck. Good proportions throughout without exaggeration. Great profile both on the stack and move and tracked up as he should both fore and after and this is what gave him the edge over number 2 today, but I did have to nit pick. I just thought for his age he still had “it”. AWARDED BEST VETERAN AND RESERVE BEST DOG. 2. Wests Archidax Betty Boop shaded Red bitch who I’ve always loved. She’s a smart little thing that has everything in the right place. Looked slightly heavier in front than 1 but the scales showed she was within guidelines. Feminine head on a clean neck set on correct shoulders. Well ribbed with a strong loin. Good hind. Today I felt she carried herself a little low. 3. Tree’s Ardenrun Sea Shanty by Keimantre. Minor Puppy Dog (4.1) 1. Waring’s Normpug Fire King 8mth old shaded Red dog. Both were new to this and require a little more practice. Loved his head. Good reach of neck. Could do with a little more chest and upper arm. Nice tight feet which a few today lacked. Level topline. Well toned backend. Once he settled a little he had a nice profile on the stack and move. Preferred his rear movement over 2. 2. Halsall’s Kiddles Kola 7mth old shaded Red dog a little nervous. Again liked his head, kind eye and enough reach of neck. Good depth of keel and well ribbed. Slightly longer in body than 1 and higher on the hock. 3. Smith & Connors Bronia Vicente at Conchur Puppy Dog (3.2) 1. Halsalls Kiddles Kola. As above. Preferred the body proportions and movement than no. 2. 2. Hambling’s Chaseover Moonshine. 11mth old Black and Tan. Conical head with almond eye. Lovely reach of neck. Prominent chest. Finer than my no.1 as well as being higher on the leg and longer in body which is why he was awarded 2nd place. Junior Dog (2.1) Hughes Lindella’s Brundi Black. 9mths black and tan. Nice proportion dog with good reach of neck, depth of chest and keel. Well ribbed back. Tight feet. Moved out with drive and purpose. Stood alone. AWARDED BEST PUPPY DOG. Limit Dog (3.2) Strange’s Stargang Alfie Moon of 3yrs. Shaded Red dog with correct head. Good reach of neck into a nice depth of chest. Well ribbed with strong loin. Stood alone. Open Dog (4.1) Gentle’s Dimogen Stargazer Black and Tan of 3yrs was a smart lad who caught my eye. Masculine head with correct eye set on a good reach of neck. Lovely depth of chest without excessiveness. Well ribbed leading into strong loin. Nicely angulated and tracks up true fore and aft. Awarded BEST DOG and BEST OPPOSITE SEX. 2. Rudkin’s Dynastydax Tarquin. Shaded Red dog 3yrs old. His body didn’t flow as nicely as no.1’s but was showy. Lovely hound head and reachy neck. Good depth of keel and length of ribs. Good topline and great hind. Moved with drive. Was a close call between him and no.3 and had to nit pick. 3. Robertson’s Ayseebee Look Who’s Talking to Ravenwood. Minor Puppy Bitch (5.1) 1. Hunt’s Mylforbe Red Velvet at Sunata 8mth shaded Red bitch was of good proportions. Super feminine head with an inquisitive expression set on a lovely reachy neck. Good depth of keel and length of ribbing. Tracked up as she should which gave her the edge over no.2. AWARDED BEST PUPPY BITCH and BEST PUPPY 2. O’Connell’s Rozamie Making Magic TAF shaded Red bitch of 8mths. Correct head and eye. Lovely reach of neck and good depth of chest. Nicely ribbed with strong loin. Loved her profile. Nice robust bitch. 3. Forge’s Normpug Apricot Beauty. Puppy Bitch (6.2) 1. Rudkins Crosscop If I Could Dream. 8mth Shaded Red was a substantial bitch without tipping the scales. Good bone. Feminine head with kind expression. Enough reach of neck flowing onto level topline. Well angulated front and back. Moved and stood true. Lower to ground than no.2 but there was more to like. 2. Turners Rozamie Magic Spell. 8mth shaded Red bitch lighter in construction to no.1. Lovely head with correct eye with lovely reachy neck. Nice shape. Lost out to no.1 as I preferred her rear action. 3. Roses Rosencrantz Ophelia. Junior Bitch (9.3) 1.O’Connell’s Llennocor Miss Alana 10mth old Shaded Red bitch was a good shape, sinks a little into her front making her appear heavy when’s she’s not and little fidgety today but she’s still young and that will come. Beautiful head with correct eye. Lovely reach of neck into well laid shoulders. Good length of ribbing into strong loin. Tight feet. Good muscle tone. Lots to like. 2. Hughes Amaffrey Larunda For Lindellas Black and Tan 17mth old bitch. Good dense coat. Feminine head on good reach of neck. Good size chest with correct wrap around with tight elbows. Level topline on the stack and move. Was clear she was my 2nd place. 3. James’ Lois Lane Cheky’s Hojanmit at Daxiemoors. Yearling Bitch (2) 1.Coote’s Andeysson Cape Verde a chocolate bitch of 21mths. Good almond eye. Good depth of keel. Strong hind. Moved out well. 2. De Lacey’s Mabeldax Festive Wish shaded Red bitch at a year old. Correct eye, strong head on good reach of neck. Enough keel and well ribbed. Preferred overall shape of this girl and more bone but lost out as no.1 had better dentition. Post Graduate Bitch (10.4) 1.Tree’s Keimantre Molly-Moo 20mth Black and Tan was my clear winner of the class today. Feminine head on reachy neck flowing into level topline. Good depth of chest and well ribbed. Tracked up well fore and aft. 2. Hughes Lindella’s Nina 2yrs Shaded Red pretty bitch. Loved her head! Clearly going through a phantom today but managed to tuck it up on the move. On the stack tends to sink into herself and hunched but when encouraged to relax she looks much better. Enough chest and well arched toes. Good rear angulation. Lost out to no.1 as she more together and preferred her overall shape. 3. Forge’s Normpug Tiger Eyes Limit Bitch(11) 1. Rudkin’s Dynastydax Alfreda JW 20mth old Black and Tan. Outstanding bitch. Everything in the right places without being overdone. Feminine head on reachy neck, correct shoulders and tight elbows. Angulation front and back as it should be with good muscle tone to boot. Moved out true for and aft. This girl was my clear winner today giving her BEST BITCH and BEST OF BREED. 2. O’Connell’s Hollybirch Glowing Gold for Llennocor 3yr old Shaded Red. Lots to like in her. Feminine bitch who was a little higher in stature than no.1 but had everything where it should be without being overdone. Tight feet and has the nicest of profiles on the stack and on the move. It was very close between one and two and had to really nit pic, all I could find was she was slightly closer in front than no.1 and not as showy. This girl will no doubt have lots of success in the show ring. 3. Robertson’s Ravenwood Tickety Boo. Open Bitch (4,2) 1. Rudkin’s Ch Keydax Layla for Dynastydax JW Black and Tan of 5yrs. Loved her head, reach of neck into well laid shoulders. Firm topline on the move and stack. Good proportions without being exaggerated. Happy to award RESERVE BEST BITCH. Dam to my BB and BOB. 2. De Lacey’s Gellijam’s Midnight Lady of Mabeldax. 3yr Black and Tan with a little more bone than my no.1. Little unsettled today. Good strong head set on enough reach of neck.
