I was thrilled to be invited to judge at a last Great Joint Dachshund Association championship show, what an honour to be invited and I was absolutely thrilled with my entry so thank you to the exhibitors. I always hold fond memories of the Great Joint, it being our most local show when held at Aldersley just a stones throw from home, meaning it was always a family occasion with all three human generations of Ralines in attendance. A show I will greatly miss, congratulations to the committee on their final show being such a success. Now onto the dogs, I felt the quality of bitches far outweighed the dogs on the day. I was so pleased with my bitch line up, what I believed to be a true quality line up. A handful of the exhibits on the day were large, but all of which were well covered and therefore their size considered a fault but no concerns regarding undernourished dogs. More of a concern to me was how petite some of the exhibits were in stature lacking in bone and substance especially in the dogs, it seems some breeders may have been so concerned about the scales they are breeding to the other extreme. For the most part the bone and substance in bitches was much better without being doggy and still being the correct size. Something to keep an eye on.

Minor Puppy Dog (7,1)
Some super promising youngsters in this class 1st MASON Teckeltown Surspicious Mind, strong masculine dog of compact type, excelling in length and spring of rib with super short loin. Loved his masculine head with the most elegant expression, well filled out chest and strong hind quarters allowing him to power around the ring, strongly considered for the reserve CC, very well on for his age however my principle winners were more finished on the day. BPD, BPIB thrilled to see him go onto  BPIS. 2nd: O'CONNELL Rijobeau Rumours another cracking pup with lots to offer gorgeous length of neck giving him that extra bit of elegance, flowing into well laid shoulder, sound length and spring of rib and tidy hindquarters, topline held solid on the move. Sound coming and going, needs to muscle up slightly behind which will come with age. 3rd: GITTINS Boomerloo's Robin

Puppy Dog (8,2)
1st: MELBOURNE, PAGET & CARROLL Melriding Black Tom smart black and tan boy, very sound to go over with the strongest rear movement in the class. Would prefer a little more width through the front. Good bone and feet, nice size with plenty of substance. Good length and spring of rib with nice short loin. Not flashy but super sound on the move, won this class on his rear action.
2nd: MASON Teckeltown Etlon John handsome red boy on the larger side, lovely masculine head and expression. Loved his type nice length of neck leading into sound well laid shoulders, plenty of forechest, strong topline which he held well on the move. Preferred the rear action of the class winner.3rd: WILKINSON & WAKEMAN Bronia Gabriel for Wakywilks

Junior Dog (5,2)
1st: MAGRI Rozamie Red Corvette gorgeous dark chestnut red dog, sound dog of nice size and proportions. His greatest attribute being his front, excelling in prosternum, with a lovely deep forechest filling his crook. A very balanced petite boy, his balance showed on the move holding a strong topline and moving parallel fore and aft.  2nd: METCALFE-BILGIN Metadale Incognito another boy excelling in front. Super sound to go over with everything in the right place, his confidence on the move made it difficult to judge his movement.3rd: MILLS Nisyros Lorenzo at Greyvista

Yearling Dog (5,2)
1st: WOODS Bronia Gaspare smart boy who showed like a dream for his owner, didn’t put a foot wrong. Strongest mover in the class, moving with purpose, good head of equal proportions, plenty of prosternum, sound shoulder and rear angles. 2nd: MILLS Nisyros Lorenzo at Greyvista the most stunning head, in lovely condition another boy who really wanted to please his mom. Balanced boy but on the larger side, preferred the sounder movement of the class winner. 3rd: BULLINGHAM Stoweytop Treacle

Post Graduate Dog (1)
1st: MAGRI Lokmadi Call Me Louis Rozamie red brindle with good length of neck, rangier type, slightly upright in shoulder. Moved parallel coming and going, that extra bit of leg length allows him to cover the ground with ease.

Limit Dog (4,1)
1st: WILLIAMS & MOES Cwmdarhian Joe Calzghe super handsome boy who caught my eye as he entered the ring, the most stunning houndy head with elegant expression. A nice size for a male with plenty of bone and substance which many lack. Textbook front and shoulder assembly, good length and spring of rib with nice short loin, slightly longer type but well balanced. Correct rear angles to go over, a boy who I am sure will just keep improving with maturity. Moved parallel fore and aft DCC. 2nd: COXON D'Arisca Dinner at Eight more compact boy with a lot to like, plenty of pro sternum, nice bunchy feet, fab rear angulation, preferred the front action of the class winner today but this boy has a lot to offer. 3rd: BAND & MCCARTHY Carpaccio Red Alert for Essandesee

Open Dog (7,2)
1st: PAGET & CARROLL Marvale Firecrest super smart red boy, lovely size, super bone and feet. The soundest mover in the class moving parallel coming and going powering around the ring, driving well behind. In super condition, well muscled creating effortless movement. Would prefer a tighter fitting jacket with less wrinkle on his front legs to finish the picture RCC,
2nd: GENTLE Dimogen Stargazer black and tan, tidy boy with a lot to like, good neck, plenty of pro sternum, sound angles on shoulder and rear, preferred the bone and length of rib of the class winner. 3rd: MASON Ch Teckeltown Master Piece JW

Veteran Dog (2)
1st: PHILLIPS Stargang High Hopes of Robinswood Red boy really enjoys showing himself off, very obviously besotted by his owner, soundest mover in the class nice front and rear angles which he uses well on the move and a tidy tail set.

2nd: BAKER & CLEMENTS Duke Midnight William chocolate boy in super condition, classic head proportions with nice expression and ear set. This boy is closer in front, hence preferred the class winners movement.

Minor Puppy Bitch (8,1)
1st: MASON Teckeltown The Show Girl pretty red girl with plenty of ground clearance super sound on the move, longer cast but well balanced, needs her shoulder to go back creating more forechest, should come with maturity as all the correct angles to go over. Won this class on her sound movement. 2nd: MUGGLETON Sweet Creature really liked this little girl, she caught my eye when entering the ring. Super pretty the most feminine head, all of a piece a bitch of complete balance with nothing overdone. Needs to tighten up on the rear end which will come with age and muscle. 3rd: TITE Rijobeau Rita Bix

Puppy Bitch (6,1)

1st: ERGIS Siouxline Mary Rose super femine shaded red bitch petite in build but not lacking in bone and substance, the perfect balance and substance and femininity. Super tidy bunchy feet, plenty of pro sternum and well balanced angles on both shoulder and rear. Suberb length and spring of rib being one of her greatest attributes. BPB. 2nd: MUGGLETON Sweet Creature 3rd: WYETH Fendrove's Bit on the Side

Junior Bitch (3)
A lovely class 1st: BEACH Beachdax Sweet Melody this girl really caught my eye oozes elegance, the most fantastic conical head with a beautiful almond eye creating that classic dachshund expression. She knows she is beautiful! Super length of neck creating lovely head carriage on the move, plenty of pro sternum with a well filled crook but not overdone. Textbook shoulder angles and super sound rear end which she uses to drive around the ring, thrilled to award her the CC a true dachshund in miniature. 2nd: WILLIAMS & MOES Cwmdarhian Cold as Ice another super sound bitch with a lot to like lovely classic outline, not flashy but very sound and all of a piece, nice front with good shoulder angles did not have the rear drive of the class winner. 3rd: FLEMING Brogansian Gingerella

Yearling Bitch (8,2)
1st: KENT Lokmadi Oh What a Circus, super eye catching black and tan bitch with the most beautiful markings, a real rich tan. Really loved this girls classic dachshund type and was strongly considered for top honours in the challenge, didn’t have the ground clearance of my top winners however expect this girl will have a bright future. Super feminine head, correct shoulder angles and excellent front with plenty of prosternum, matching rear angles creating a sound well balanced mover. Longer and lower in type.  2nd: ROBERTS & SMITH Rozamie Magic Moments sound shaded red bitch alike the class winner lovely front, good length of rib creating a strong topline which was held well on the move, didn’t have the elegance of the class winner but still a super sound bitch. 3rd: DALTON Beachdax About Damn Time

Post Graduate Bitch (13,2)
Strong class 1st: MAGRI Rozamie Abracadebrah dark shaded red bitch, lovely outline, longer in type but with plenty of ground clearance making her a well-balanced bitch. Pretty head with tidy ear set, long well arched neck leading into super sound shoulders, nice front not overdone with angles well balanced on the rear. Her long rib a short loin allows for a gentle underline and strong topline which is held well on the move. Covered the ground with ease. 2nd: METCALFE-BILGIN Metadale Dora the Explorer red bitch, super bone and substance with nice chunky feet, plenty of front. Super pretty head with good eye shape and well set ears, preferred that little more leg length of the winner giving her a little more ground clearance on the move, but a super sound bitch. 3rd: TITE Rijobeau Ella Vaday

Limit Bitch (13,1)
Quality class 1st: O'CONNELL Hollybirch Glowing Gold for Llennocor petitie feminine bitch, nothing small about her personality such a show off! This girl really has ring presence. My notes read ‘super sound’ everything in the right place for this girl, her compact type with good angles allows for really powerful movement, strongly considered for top awards, unfortunately pipped to the post in such a strong quality line up however I’m sure she has a bright future. 2nd: GRAHAM Bronia Camille a longer cast bitch with super sound movement alike the class winner, moving parallel coming and going and moving with purpose. Good front and shoulder, not the length of neck of the class winner. 3rd: METCALFE-BILGIN Metadale Legacy Lives On
