I really enjoyed my days judging, so many thanks to the committee of The Midland Dachshund Club for inviting me to judge at their Sub-Group Championship show and to the exhibitors for entering under me, and for accepting my decisions in a sporting manner. A big thanks must also go to my steward who was a massive help despite stewarding all day in the scorching temperatures!

Veteran Dog – 0 entries Minor Puppy Dog – 1 entry 1. Margi’s Bronia Cellini Rozamie – Red dog of good type with plenty of substance. Good head with a nice eye and well-set ears. He has a good reach of neck and correct shoulder placement; ribbing carried well back and short in loin. I liked him a lot, he just needs to firm up.

Puppy Dog – 3 entries (1 absent) 1. Mason's Teckeltown Master Piece – Red dog, lovely make and shape, with a lovely head and correct eye. Nice neck which flowed into well placed shoulders, well ribbed with short loin. Correct angulation in quarters, moved well keeping his good profile. Very well presented and ably handled. BD & BPD. 2. Coxon’s D'arisca Drives A Daimler – Black and Tan dog with a good head and nice dark eye. Good neck, correct front construction and well ribbed. Unfortunately, he was just rather unsettled today.

Junior Dog – 1 entry 1. Selby’s Merryline Stanley– Black and Tan dog who is longer cast with a good head and correct eye shape. Correct front construction and good ribs. Moved well. Yearling Dog – 3 entries 1. Bullis's Amaffrey Will I Am – Black and Tan dog of lovely type with good substance, but not exaggerated. Lovely head with a nice dark eye, correct shoulder construction and well ribbed. Well balanced hind angulation, moved well keeping a good outline. 2. Beach’s Laurabelle Rocket Man – Chocolate dog who has plenty of substance. A good head, good layback of shoulder and excellent ribbing. Moved well keeping a good outline. 3. Stevenson & Mitchell’s Rioday Dishy Master Digby At Penwooddax.

Novice Dog – 2 entries 1. Band & Mccarthy’s Carpaccio Red Alert for Essandsee – Red dog of good type with a lovely head and correct almond shaped dark eye. Good bone for size and good ribbing. Moved soundly. 2. Stevenson & Mitchell’s Rioday Dishy Master Digby At Penwooddax – Black and Tan dog with good head, and although he was sound on the move; would like shorter rear pastern. Longer in the loin than 1, so not quite the same outline.

Post Graduate Dog – 6 entries (1 absent) 1. Mutton’s Ivan Poddubny Iz Omskoi Kreposti For Montone – Black and Tan dog with a good head, good neck which flowed into well placed shoulders and good ribbing. Good hind angulation, moved well whilst keeping a good outline. 2. Strange’s Stargang Magic Alfie Moon – Red dog of different type with a nice head and correct almond shaped dark eye. Nice reach of neck which flowed into well placed shoulders, well ribbed and strong quarters. Good ground clearance, moved well. 3. Band & Mccarthy’s Carpaccio Red Alert for Essandsee.

Limit Dog – 5 entries 1. Peel & Andison’s Clentry Donnie Darco – Black and Tan dog whose presence caught my eye as soon as he walked into the ring. A classy male, with a good head and correct shaped dark eye, good neck which flowed into well placed shoulders, good forechest and ribbing. Well balanced hind angulation, moved soundly and freely whilst keeping a good outline. Well handled. RBD. 2. Mason’s Teckeltown Something Magic JW – A Black and Tan dog which I have admired before. He is a lovely type of a nice size, with good bone. A good head and good reach of neck, which flows into a well laid shoulder. Would prefer a bit more upper arm. Good forechest, well ribbed, nicely balanced hind angulation, moved well whilst maintaining a good outline. 3. Beach’s Lodargeo Volcano.

Open Dog – 5 entries 1. Beach’s Riowood Arizona – Smart brindle dog, with a lovely head and correct dark eye. Lovely reach of neck leading into correctly placed shoulders. Good forechest, bone and ribbing. Well balanced hind angulation, moved well keeping a good outline. Well presented. 2. Gentle’s Dimogen Stargazer – A Black and Tan of pleasing type, with a good head, with correct shaped dark eye. Good neck and good shoulder placement. Good forechest and bone for size. Good length of ribbing and correctly angulated quarters. Covered the ground well on the move whilst keeping a good outline. 3. Peel & Andison’s Clentry Here Me Roar.

Champion Dog – 3 entries (2 absent) 1. Coxon’s Ch Distinctly So D'arisca – A Red dog with a good head and dark eye, good reach of neck, good forechest and good length of ribbing and short loin. Balanced in his angulation. Kept a good outline whilst moving.

Good reach of neck, leading into correctly placed shoulders. Text book front construction, good ribbing and correctly angulated quarters. Good reach and rear drive.

Minor Puppy Bitch – 3 entries (2 absent) 1. Herald’s Winterfield Sweet Charity – A Red bitch, who was very much a raw puppy and was full of life! Taller in type, nice dark eye and good shoulder placement. Good length of ribbing, but would prefer more angulated quarters. She needs to settle into herself. Puppy Bitch – 7 entries (2 absent) 1. Mitchell’s Bronia's Antonella – A classy Red bitch with a good head and correct shaped dark eye, good shoulder placement, good forechest and good length of ribbing. Good bone and nice tight feet. Correctly angulated quarters, moved soundly, most promising. RBB and BP. 2. Cross’s Loggeta Pickled Lilly – A Black and Tan bitch with a good head and correct dark eye. Good reach of neck leading into well placed shoulders and good length of ribbing. Correctly angulated quarters. Moved well whilst keeping a pleasing outline. Just preferred the bone and type of my winner. 3. Rudkin’s Dynastydax Wilma

Junior Bitch – 6 entries (1 absent) 1. Mason’s Teckeltown Lady In Red – A classy Red bitch with an elegant head and correct dark eye. Good reach of neck leading into correctly placed shoulders. Good forechest and good length of ribbing, with plenty of substance. Strong rear quarters. Moved well, whilst keeping a good outline. Won the class on the move. 2. Bullis’s Amaffrey Bridget Jones – A Black and Tan bitch of lovely type, with a lovely head and correct shaped dark eye. Yearling Bitch – 4 entries 1. Bullis’s Amaffrey Truly Scrumptious – A Red bitch of lovely type, with a nice head and correctly shaped eye. Good bone and feet. Good forechest and ribbing carried well back. Moved soundly fore and aft., but would like more upper arm. 2. Gittins’s Markidachs Creme De La at Boomerloo – A Black and Tan bitch of different type to the winner. Very good forechest and good length of ribbing. Moved soundly whilst keeping a good outline. Preferred the head of the class winner. 3. Herald’s Winterfields June of Arabia.

Novice Bitch – 6 entries (1 absent) 1. O'connell’s Hollybirch Glowing Gold – A Red bitch of lovely type. Good head and dark eye. Good neck flowing into a well laid shoulder. Rose’s Ardenrun Foolish Whisper at Rosencrantz – A Shaded Red bitch of similar type. Good head with correct almond shaped dark eye. Just a little shorter in upper arm than my winner. Open Bitch – 7 entries (1 absent) 1. Coxon’s Sundsdal's Black Cadillac To D'arisca – Black and Tan bitch of beautiful type with a lovely head, good reach of neck, good shoulder. Ribbing carried well back with correctly angulated quarters. Good top and underline, which she kept on the move. If I was being picky, I would just prefer a ‘tad’ more upper arm. BB & BOB. 2. Rudkin Keydax Layla For Dynastydax Jw – A very showy Black and Tan bitch with lots to like. Many of the same remarks apply as to my winner. Comes into her own on the move, so sound.
