Miniature Smooth

Thank you for a numerically strong entry which made for an interesting assignment. I have to say that on the last two appointments I found type and quality in abundance, here although with out doubt I did have some quality animals the consistency on type was very difficult. I found the males better than the bitches overall with several boys pushing for top honors. Just a few weeks ago when I judged Smooths at the SKC I found the type quality more consistent, it’s strange how things turn around with time. I was pleased though to see that Ch Bronia L’infinito sired both my CC winners & that my BOB sired the puppy bitch winner. Just a few questionable bites & mucky teeth, wrinkle has made an appearance & just two kinky tails. I did notice a number that where a shade longer & weak in the hocks. I think front construction is very good & the heads on the males inarticulacy where very good. All dogs in this entry where well covered body wise & presentation was faultless. The tremendous down poor came on open bitch, so with the bitch challenge inside after rushing I did find that a few could have done with more time to settle. A most enjoyable time at one of my favorite shows that I won my first ever CC at 22 years ago ironically under Joan Littmoden of the Wendlit mini smooths.

PD (7,2abs) 1, Hunt’s Carpaccio Captain Scarlet, 11 month shaded red, Beautiful head & dark oval eye, well arched neck which he uses so well on the move, first class shoulders & front, long body but in proportion, good ribbing, short loins, well made behind, ultra sound for one so young coming & going, tremendous drive from behind, super in profile, the overall picture is there to see & he will without doubt make it to the upper house. 2, Ergis’ Siouxline Timon, another super headed puppy, 10 month b/t, very good front, tight elbows, good legs & feet, good body with correct top & underlines, shade higher on the leg throughout than1, sound enough coming & going, projects himself well in profile giving a lovely picture. 3, Shutt’s Donnadoon Le Mousquetaire.

JD 4 (1), 1, Williams’ Cwmdarhian Can’t Touch This, 12 month b/t, very good head & eye, good shoulders with correct angles, firm topline, shade long in the loin, good hind angulation & 2nd thigh, very sound up & down, beautiful in profile, promising. 2, Philip’s Minimead Montmorency, 13 month red, what a fabulous colour, very appealing, good head & nice dark eye, good shoulders & nice tight elbows, firm topline, good ribbing, firm quarters, so sound in front but a shade untidy behind, good in profile though having more ground clearance than1 ,very appealing dog. 3, Burton’s Swingletrees Just-In-Time.

PGD 7 (4), 1, Metcalfe-Bilgin’s Metadale Gorgeous George, 20 month s/red that won on his overall picture both standing & in profile, lovely type, good head & pigment, good enough shoulders, good body & proportions, long body & short loins, he excels in hind quarters with short firm parallel hocks giving tremendous drive, projects himself well in profile with good reach & follow through. 2, Williams & Jones’ Cwmadarhain Billy The Kid, taller than 1 but he covers with ground with such eases, 17 month red, plenty of fore chest, tight elbows, very good body, good top & underlines, tail well set & carried, very sound coming & going, gives a good picture in profile, another nice one. 3, Philip’s Jentiki Red Chilli Pepper.

LD 9 (3), 1 Salisbury’s Willowheath Just William At Brocklewood JW, Judged him as a puppy at an open show & gave him the group, now coming up to 2 yrs this red boy has everything that I was looking for, stunning head & expression, strong jaws & super bite, Lovely dark oval eyes, ears well shaped & set, long well arched neck leading into copy book shoulders, plenty of fore chest & width, well proportioned body, lovely ribbing with plenty of room, correct in top & underline, short firm loins, very good hind angulation, ultra sound up & down, projects himself so well in profile showing himself off so well. A top flight exhibit that is hard to fault & on this performance can only go on & do well for the breed, sired the PB winner so hopefully will be useful, CC (his 6th) & BOB congratulations. 2, Williams Cwmadarhain Benjamin Buttons, 17 month b/t, more ground clearance than 1, more compact throughout but well made, good head, plenty of neck, shade longer in upper arm, body in proportion as is the height to length ratio, sound up & down if a shade wide both ends, covers the ground effortlessly in profile, will appeal to many. 3, Metcalfe-Bilgin’s Metadale Super Sid.

OD 7 (3), 1 Herrington’s Kathington Coeur De Lion, A very honest well made Dachshund, maybe not a glamour boy but this 3 yr b/t point for point can not be over looked, from the tip of his nose to the end of his tail everything flows into place, I just kept looking at him thinking everything is so correct, very sound & covers the ground so well, not the ultimate showman or glamour puss, but fore his faultless construction he deserved nothing less than the RCC, it will be a shame if he doesn’t make the upper house. 2, Kent’s Barratini Jeeves at Lockmadi JW, beautiful type 2 yr b/t. good head & eye, very well made front, good shoulders, tight elbows, plenty of fore chest, good body & proportions, shade longer in hocks but firm & parallel, not as tidy today coming & going, projects himself well in profile using his well arched neck so well, looks so lovely stacked, another good one. 3, Blackburn’s Sonderbar Ben at Stargang.

PB 10 (3), 1, Reed’s Cedax Octavia Surprise for Deercroft, was really taken with this 8 month b/t, she is so well made throughout but in a smaller package, sweet feminine head & expression, well arched neck, very good shoulders, good body & ribbing with correct top & underlines, short loins, firm parallel quarters with short neat hocks, sound up & down for one so young, looks very good in profile, very promising just hope she grows on a touch. 2, Mitchell’s Bronia Feliciana, just coming up to 12 month, loved the type of this red girl, very nice head, good shoulders & angles, well made body, short loins, firm parallel hocks, tail well set & carried. Very sound going away though needs to tidy up in front, good in profile keeping a pleasing picture. 3, Ergis’ Siouxline Aurora.

JB 9 (1), 1, Burton’s Swingletrees Amazing Grace, 16 month red, beautiful coat & colour, very good head, plenty of neck leading into first class shoulders, tight elbows & plenty of fore chest & width, long body but in proportion, good height to length ratio, good solid back end, a touch untidy up & down but looks really good in profile giving good reach & follow through, a very tidy young girl. 2, Kent’s Lokmadi Steffy Byng, 13 month b/t, ran 1 close, very nice to go over, appealing head & expression, well made front, firm topline with plenty of ribbing, short thick loins, enough angulation behind though not as short in the hock as 1, went well up & down & also looks good in profile with a lovely neck carriage, nice & useful I should think. 3, Hunt’s Cwmdarhian Carry on Cleo at Carpaccio.

PG, 5 (1), 1, Mitchell’s Bronia Fabrizia, just coming up to 12 month, I think its fair to say she is bordering on fawn in colour, a real treat to go over, everything flows into place as it should, very nice head & feminine outlook, well arched neck leading into shoulders with beautiful angles, tight elbows, plenty of width through the front & better feet than her sister, good firm backline, ribbing well developed for her age, short firm loins, beautifully made behind, angles just as they should be, ultra sound coming & going for one so young & in profile her gait is effortless with good reach & drive. She pulled the stops out in the challenge when we got rushed in side & proved to me that she was all Dachshund, moving soundly in any conditions, CC (her 1st ) & BP,good luck!. 2, Robinson’s D’arisca Dark and Delicious, I have always loved the type of this bitches breeding & she is no exception, typical in head & expression, ultra feminine throughout, very good shoulders, correct body proportions with firm topline, very good hind quarters, firm parallel hocks, very sound up & down, her carriage in profile is lovely, she really projects her self so well. Just not as outgoing today as 1 but for sheer type & quality had to take the RCC. 3, Hughes Brianolf Oregan Jade.

LB, 9 (1), 1, Callow’s Garthorne Miss Dynamite, loved this bitch, stunning head & expression, first class front & shoulders, everything fits neatly, nice & compact body with good top & underlines, first class quarters, short firm neat hocks, tail well set & carried, sound enough both ways, looking typical in profile, she gave me everything I wanted to she, in the challenge indoors she just didn’t open her gait in the same way & gave the impression of no drive which she clearly had in this class, my heart sank & it was a pity as it could well have been her day. 2, Coxon’s D’arisca Be Dazzled, 2 yr s/red, nice long bitch all in proportion, good head & dark eye, plenty of neck, good shoulders & length of keel, ribbing extends well back & has firm topline, very good hind angulation, quite sound out & back, looking lovely in profile, everything flowing, nice quality girl though not the feet of 1. 3, Blackburn-Bennett’s Stargang Serenity.

O, 3 (2), 1, Callow’s Ch Garthorne Garzania JW, Loved the head & expression on this 5 yr red, well arched neck leading into very good shoulders, good body & ribbing with correct top & underlines, short thick loins leading into nice hammy quarters, sound enough up & down & reaches out well in profile showing of her elegant carriage, the ultimate show girl but for me needs less wrinkle on her legs to take her further.
