MINIATURE SMOOTH
It is a while since I last judged Miniature Smooths, and in general, I
have to say I was quite disappointed in the quality of many of the exhibits,
especially the males, movement in a large proportion is very poor, tummy tapping
hind action or pinning in front was very common and something that should be
discouraged in a hound breed. Dogs that looked good standing totally lost it on
the move, underlines need to be watched, as many had ribs that finished
virtually under their arms, also wrinkle seems to be creeping back in, which, at
one time was very much a problem in the breed, and I hope its not becoming so
again. On the plus side, shoulders and hind angulation seem to be a lot better,
and temperaments were good. Presentation in most cases was excellent with a few
exceptions. Some of my placings may have surprised a few, but I judge as I see
on the day. I thank the exhibitors for the entry they gave me. I was very
pleased with my main winners.
PD(6) 1 Williams’ Cwmdarhian Billy The Kid. The first of some
quality exhibits from this kennel. Red baby of lovely type, excellent head, neck
and shoulder placement, true little mover both front and back, should have a
bright future. 2 Orton’s Cagebrooke Thyme To Go To Scalamo. Another pleasing red
boy who has time on his side, didn’t quite match the movement of winner today. 3
Muggleton’s Mosiarto Mister Big.
JD(3) 1 Williams’ Cwmdarhian Benjamin Button. I loved this 6
month old boy, brother to puppy winner, for me he shouts out quality all in a
neat little package, from his lovely head, neat shoulders, excellent top and
underline, lovely angulated quarters, top this off with movement that is true
front and back and you have a complete picture. I was aware that he is only a
baby and I thought long and hard about my decision, but for me he stands out for
type, yes he has some maturing to do, but this is not a fault so therefore I was
delighted to award him. CC and BP. I hope he is given the chance to go further
which he and his owner deserve to do. CC, BP. 2 Shelton’s Barisse Makes It
Magic. Another quality young man, just a little narrow in front for me.
PGD(4) 1 Burley’s Minimead Mr Noitall By Siouxline. Black and tan boy
with good proportions, pleasing head, neck and shoulders, fair mover, would just
prefer a slightly longer underline, nevertheless a quality exhibit. 2 Burton’s
Swingletrees Ready-Teddy-Go. Red lad who is neat to go over but didn’t quite
have the overall balance of winner. 3 Settle’s Siouxline Christopher Robin.
LD(3) 1 Kent’s Barratini Jeeves At Lokmadi JW. Black and tan,
happy little chap. I loved his type, he has a touch of quality about him, lovely
balanced outline, excellent top and underline, good length of neck into well
angulated shoulders, moved true front and back. Res CC. 2 Shelton’s Barisse High
Endeavour. Red who scored well in most departments, but lost out on shoulder
placement. 3 Winchurches Brianolf Malachite.
OD(4) 1 Callow’s Ch Garthorne Top Gear JW. Black and tan boy who looks
appealing, has many virtues to admire, including lovely head, neck and shoulder
angles, fair top and underline, true in front movement but today not so good
behind, he tended to be tummy tapping.
PB(16) 1 Coxon’s D’Arisca Sybilla. Red young lady who is quite
a character. I loved her from every angle, lovely head, excellent reach of neck
into cracking shoulders, good top and underline, reaching far back. Top this off
with perfectly true movement and you have a cracking little lady who I predict
will go far. 2 Callow’s Garthorne Miss Dynamite. Black and tan who just needs to
gain a little confidence and then she could trouble the best, correct head, well
arched neck, good topline kept well on the move, which was true front and back.
3 Kent’s Toniajavae Indian Passion At Lokmadi.
JB(8) 1 Williams’ Cwmdarhian Miss Lucy Lou. Same way bred as my DCC
winner, and what a success this has been, she stood out in this class for her
type and soundness, lovely head and eye, excellent lay of shoulder, good
topline, super underline reaching well back, covered the ground well with her
true movement. 2 Kent’s Toniajavae Indian Passion At Lokmadi. Black and tan.
Third in puppy, quality baby who needs to mature to see her full potential. 3
Callow’s Garthorne Galicia.
PGB(10) 1 Twyman’s Stargang Porsche. Lovely black and tan who
excelled in breed type, she is very neat all through, her crowning glory is her
movement, which was totally free and true. To be critical, I would prefer a
slightly better head and eye, but a quality lady. 2 Muggleton’s Mosiarto
Beautiful Belle. Pushed first very hard for she had the better head, but in the
end it came down to movement, and for me, she was slightly narrow in front. 3
Hughes’ Minimeadmaid To Love For Julidachs.
LB(6) 1 Coxon’s Rose Darque At D’Arisca. I absolutely loved
her, thought she was stunning and stood away, lovely head and eye, well laid
angulated shoulders, correct top and underline, excellent ribbing, neat feet,
hammy quarters which she used to her advantage to move freely and perfectly true
both front and back, top this with a lovely little character and you have a
complete Dachshund package in miniature. I was delighted to award her her second
CC and BOB. Her third must be just round the corner. 2 Melbourne &Holdsworth’s
Barratini Hubble Bubble At Melriding JW. Quality exhibit with many virtues to
see. Was unlucky to meet first today. 3 Hartley’s Lyrosh Lady JW ShCM.
OB(4) 1 Blackburn &Blackburn-Bennett’s Stargang Lotus Elite.
Lovely brindle. Lady who really impressed me for her complete soundness, she has
a lovely head and eye, correct shoulder placement, well arched neck, good top
and underline with correct ribbing, nice tight feet, good movement both ways,
she was just beaten for the CC by the limit winner whom I just preferred the
elegance of, nevertheless she has 2 CCs and her third will not be far away. Res
CC. 2 Coxon’s Ch D’Arisca Golden Delicious. A very neat lady whom it is not
difficult to see why she has won so much, today though she had to give way to
the younger ladies. 3 Melbourne &Holdsworth’s Can Ch Grandgablesms Chatannagato
To Melriding.
