MINIATURE SMOOTH HAIRED

My thanks to the exhibitors for a lovely entry, we started late as we were second in the ring and I feel that Mini Smooths should have been given their own ring at such a prestigious show, as they draw well over 100 dogs. I found type mixed in some classes, it was nice to see some improvement. I was looking for a well balanced free moving Dachshund with good shoulders and strong hindquarters. There are still some short upperarms which spoils front action and some that ‘tummy tap’ when seen in profile. Quality is better but there is still room for improvement. All the dogs were well presented.

VD. (8). 1. Herrington’s, Lucky Chance at Kathington. Very stylish 9 years old black and tan. Masculine head, clean front. Good bone. Nice ribbing and well angulated behind. Kept a nice outline on the move. A real show off! 2. McFadyen’s, Tamdach Taboo. Similar type. Pleasing head. Not the bone and hindquarters of the winner. Another that showed well. Still a youngster! Good mover. 3. Forrest’s, Bute Knight in Black Satin JW. Lighter framed dog. Nice head and eye. Had the best shoulders in the class. Looked good on the table, but needs better handling on the ground and owner needs to set him out better. Res Ashwell’s, Granadan Sam.

SpPD. (4). 1. Ergis’s, Siouxline Isacc. Eye catching puppy. Nicely proportioned head. Good front, shoulders need to settle back yet. Good ribbing. Not over long in loin. In nice condition. Moved true both ways. Nice quality. Confident mover who really covered ground. BP and RCC. 2. Jones’s, Monty’s Glorious Moment. Liked this one. He just needs more confidence, which will come with age. Slightly higher on the leg than the winner and a bit younger. Nice front and ribbing. Moved well round the big ring. 3. Carter’s, Rustic Fox for Boglands. 11 months old red going through a rangy stage. Looks a baby, well put together and showed well. Needs time.

SpJD. (7). 1. Shelton’s, Donnadoon Imagination at Barisse. Nice b/t. Good front, shoulders and ribbing carried well back. Strong hindquarters which showed on the move, keeping a good outline and strong topline. Well handled. 2. Ergis’s, Siouxline Indigo. Smaller type. Shoulders not as well set. Nice length and strong hindquarters. Moved really well and in good condition. 3. Jones’, Radclyffe Pinicola. Smaller type red. Shoulders could be better. Ribbing good. Not as well let down as the other two and not the drive behind. Res Hunt’s, Deercroft Discoverer with Carpaccio.

YD. (5). 1. Melbourne’s, Melriding Jerome. Smart red with a nice head and correct eye. Good front and shoulder. Ribbing carried well back. Well angulated hindquarters and a good mover. In the challenge he just needed more confidence. Should have a bright future. 2. Hunt’s, Deercroft Discoverer with Carpaccio. Neat little b/t came up front the Special Junior class. Lower set type lost to winner on shoulders. Great little mover. 3. Hollands’, Zarosa Motivation. Another neat little b/t. Similar remarks apply to this boy. Just lacks confidence at the moment. Res Palin’s, Merehill Double Topping over Sanmik.

PGD. (6). 1. Jones’s, Detravis Mr Confidence at Indizak. Yearling dog. Nice compact shape. Good masculine head, nice eye, strong jaw. A little unsettled at first but came into his own on the move. 2. Watkinson’s, Manakoora Hanapepe Valley. Another nice quality b/t. Needs firmer handling. Has a nice head. clean front. Could be better in shoulder lay. Lost his topline a bit on the move, otherwise a nice exhibit. 3. Orton’s, Scalamor Solomons Seal. Compact b/t not the body length of the other two. Nice shape a bit too heavy in front which restricted his movement. Res Somerville’s, Peaselye Perrywinkle.

LD. (8). 1. Dunn’s, Barratini Luke Lively at Ashridge. I have admired this dog from the ringside and was not disappointed on going over him. Everything flows together. On the day he was just not in the mood. Have seen him show better. 2. Ergis’s, Siouxline Thomas JW Sh CM. Lighter framed dog. Very stylish and as all from this kennel has good movement. Quality all through. Never stopped showing. Just preferred the substance of the winner. 3. Mead’s, Minimead Maximus. Smart red in nice condition. I would have liked better shoulder lay. Well handled. Res Luke’s, Corrieknowe Circassian.

OD. (9). 1. Coxon’s, Ch. D’Arisca Inkel Impresario. This dog topped a lovely class of males. The three L’s apply here. Oozes quality. Lovely front assembly. Tight shoulders.Good length of ribbing. Really extended on the move using his hindquarters fully and he moved round the ring on a loose lead. All quality. CC and BOB. 2. Doran’s, Orandaq Ditchfield. Another quality dog not the length of the winner but well balanced. Correct front and well covered body. Clean mover with good extension. 3. Melbourne’s, Melriding Post Hac Meliora. Similar type to the others. Good clean shape. Well put together. Another clean mover. Res Newbury and Morris’s, Morris Man of Dalegarth.

GOOD CIT D. (2). 1. Ashwell’s, Grandan Sam. 9 years old, came up from veteran. Showed well and was enjoying his day out. Compact little dog well put together. 2. Somerville’s, Peaselye Perrywinkle. Longer cast. Another enjoying their outing. Would like to see him with more weight.

VB. (5). 1. Ergis’s, Ch. Souxline Angelica. What a nice start to the bitches! A favourite of mine and looking really good at 11 years young. Still commands the ring and can still show them all how to move. A credit to her breeder. 2. Callow’s, Ch. Garthorne Leading Lady. Another top winner and still looks good at 9 years young. Showed her head off and moved really well. 3. Watkinson’s, Ch. Manakoora Mai-Tai. Yet again another senior citizen carrying her 12 years with pride. All these dogs are a credit to their breeder/owners. Res Luke’s, Lyrosh Contessa Lucia.

SpPB. (4). 1. Callow’s, Garthorne Gazania. Lovely red bitch full of quality. Good front and ribbing. Well let down hindquarters. Really covered the ground keeping a nice outline. 2. Salisbury’s, Brocklewood Babycham. Similar type to winner, finer boned but nice quality. Very feminine. Needs more confidence standing, could have been the noise. 3. Kerry’s, Dolyharp Pizzicato at Kireton. Smart little b/t well put together, not as advanced as the others. Moved really well. Just needs time. Rs Yeomans’, Kilynerbryner Thea May.

SpJB. (8). This was a nice class of young bitches. My first three could have been from the same litter. 1. Reed’s, Deercroft Devotion. Caught my eye as she entered the ring. Very honest little bitch. Sister to second in Yearling dog. Nice quality, good front and shoulder. Ribbing carried well back. Correct balanced loin into strong hindquarters. Really showed well. Should have a bright future. 2. Coxon’s, D’Arisca Golden Delicious. Very similar in type, oozing quality, same remarks apply, very showy mover. 3. Barber’s, Simply Red Ruby of Rivergate. Another quality red. I will just be repeating myself. Suffice to say 3 very promising girls that will no doubt change places another time. Res Herrington’s, Kathington Ebony Star.

YB. (11). 1. Hunt’s, Can/Am Ch. Grandgables Ms Supernatural at Carpaccio (Imp). Attractive and feminine. A nice size. Not overdone in any way. Good front assembly and ribbing. Well let down hocks in shining condition. Moved really well. RCC. 2. Reed’s, Deercroft Miss Dynamite. Another good one same comments apply. Just not the extension behind on the move. Very nice quality bitch. Should do well. 3. Sharkey’s, Hyshope Louisa May. Lighter in bone than the others and slightly shorter coupled. Pulled the stops out on the move in this nice class. Res Spencer’s, Curtisey Classic Design for Bannonbrig.

PGB. (16). 1. Reed’s, Deercroft Devition. 2. Scott’s, Bevrons Sofelia. Nice type, feminine head. Correct shoulders. Good rib length and loin. Moved well, very showy. 3. Salisbury’s, Barratini Moonbeam over Brocklewood. Another nice red. The three L’s apply here also. Very well handled. Res Spencer’s, Scalamor Sugar Stealer for Bannonbrig.

LB. (22). 1. Blackburn-Bennett’s, Shardagang Equality. Very nice b/t. Lovely shape, well developed front. Feminine head. Good ribbing. Smart mover really covers the ground. Should have a bright future. CC. 2. Mayger’s, Woolsocks Black Satin. Neat shaped b/t. Well angulated both ends. Another good mover. 3. Parish’s, Robsdach Jayda to Kapadach. Compact little b/t. Nice type. Needs to carry a little less weight as it makes her look too heavy in front. Showed and moved well. Less weight would help her outline. Res MacDonald’s, Bensarka After Midnight.

OB. (10). 1. Coxon’s, Ch/Am Ch. Grandgables Tickle my Fancy (Imp). Eye catching brindle bitch obviously just back from a litter, but in hard condition. Excellent mover and show girl. Handled to get the best from her. Just needs time to tighten up. RCC. 2. Daykin’s, Barratini Magic Moment. Another nice one from this breeder and one I have admired. Well put together not on her best performance on the day, but a quality bitch with lovely construction. Moved well but a little unsettled. 3. Doran’s, Switherland Hobb Nob. Nice b/t. Neat little bitch. Tidy front, low to ground. Well angulated hindquarters which she used well on the move. Res. Hunt’s, Ch. Carpaccio Shopaholic JW.

GOOD CIT B (2). 1. Somerville’s, Maydays Dark Damsel of peaselye. Nice b.t that showed well and moved and responded to her young handler. 2. Paterson’s, Yasmin Fire Babe. Neat little red just a bit unsettled in the big ring. Well handled.
