Thank you all for supporting the Great Joint with a lovely entry which I really enjoyed judging, and thank you to my two excellent stewards who made my day so easy. I had deliberately stayed away from GB shows for the last 6 months so that the dogs would be new to me. My overall impression is that size has greatly improved. However, there are some far too deep ribcages, which completely spoil the overall balance, and I also noticed a tendency for some, especially bitches, to "drive their fronts into the floor" with a wheelbarrow like effect when moving. I am worried about missing premolars (either PM1 or PM3), this was so common that it had little effect on my placings, as was fused tail vertebrae, especially towards the tip, with two exhibits having obvious kinks. As ever upper arms are shorter than one would wish as is ribbing, and I was surprised to find some dogs moving towards me with no width at all in front! By far the biggest problem is over angulated rears which might give the desired picture on the stack (but not if you look at the ideal in Sayers) but certainly do not lead to sound hind movement. My placings had to reflect the dogs on the day. Many dogs I arrived expecting to like just did not move on this floor and as always placings might well have differed in a large grass ring. I do not expect any dog to enjoy moving towards a brick wall and so was as sympathetic as possible with this. My biggest surprise was presentation. As ever, there were teeth which could have been cleaner, but much more importantly, a wire coat should be hand stripped! Many coats had been knifed and were not the required texture - these are WIRE haired dachshunds and I would rather see a full wire coat than a dog presenting a beautiful picture from afar but whose coat is like cotton wool when you get your hands on it. Ears should not have fringes and neither should feet - especially if your dog does not move true behind! Please ask Kim, Halcyon and Nina for advice as their presentation was top class. MPD (2,1) 1 Sorenson's Time After Time BPD, RCC, BPIB, super puppy to start my day, excellent red brindle coat, masculine head, good bone, very free mover and so sound for his age - still only 6 months old so of course he needs to firm up but did enough to win the RCC today, which he won on his coat and positive hind movement, would not like him to grow much more though! PD (1) 1 Bellamys' Veenen Onyx Resetin Gold at Garjay, completely different type, squarer behind, not as positive on the move but lovely head and eye, slight tendency to lose topline on the move. JD (2) 1 Wharton & Pughe's Derochaise Black Tarquin. 2 Vine's Derochaise Justified for Cishelvine, two litter brothers with a lot to like, very pleasing for size and bone, preferred 2nd's more masculine head, body length and wire coat, but 1 moved more soundly on his floor and just had the edge overall, close up for RCC. YD (3) 1 Langridge's Tendrow Elberta. 2 Baldwins' Aventine Scotts Bluff. 3 Smiths' Jethard Two To Tango at Salixian. A difficult class as all 3 were completely different types. 1 scored in front, ribbing, and hind movement, 2 on profile movement and 3 on size. PGD (2,1) 1 Langridge's Tendrow Elberta. LD (8,2) 1 Dible's Cishelvine Storm At Sea at Liebling. 2 Paskins' Tendrow Replays The Red Guy at Kindeace ShCM. 3 Sorenson's Jethard Just Jive. Looked like a very good class but the floor played a big part as one of my favourite dogs just crabbed his way around on it, and another I liked a lot on the table did not stride out at all. The winner is a very tidy dog who moved very well keeping the same profile he had when standing, good coat, bone and best ribbing in class but he was closely challenged by the 2nd who just failed to him in length of upper arm, while the 3rd who scored in length was too deep in ribbing. OD (10,1) 1 Moore & Coverleys' Ch & Ir Ch Ex Sentia I'm Bond James Bond, not at all flashy but won by a mile on size, type, balance, coat and sound movement, correct hind angulation and knows how to use it, I have liked this dog since he came out at the WHDC as a junior and was delighted to get the opportunity to go over him. Very typical head, lovely eye and expression, better ribbing than most. The more they moved, the better he went, may not have as much front as some but came towards me better than most, and has stamped his sound hind movement on his progeny. A credit to his owners that he is still beating all comers at 7 years old. In the challenge he just stood out for balance and soundness and easily won the CC. 2 McPherson & Paterson's Ch Fransin Brasilian TP Panettone ShCM, was very surprised at how big this dog looked in this ring, very good head and front and an excellent mover in profile with super top line but very loose going away from me on this floor. 3 Moore's Metewand Bogen By The Sea, very sound free moving dog just a little larger than I prefer, slightly out of coat today but what he had was harsh, v close decision between 2 and 3, just lost in topline today, but moves so well behind. VD (3) 1 Bates & Maes-Jones' Derochaise Mutineer, beautifully presented dark brindle who moved very soundly and held his profile on the move. 2 Kent & Dible's Monisi On the Town, lovely shape to this dog standing and in profile but a little loose in front now. 3 Vine's Cishelvine Sea Swell, very sadly, he hated the floor. MPB (5,2) 1 Seath's Sunsong Wish Me Luck, lovely puppy, just right for age, won on type, balance, size, coat  and movement. 2 Wharton's Lady Giselle of Greyhayne, nice type, but longer cast and not the coat of winner, but harsher coat and better boned than 3, Newman's Barembak Dellamarie. PB (4,2) 1 Bubb's Rocinda Dora for Wyeknot BPB, slightly more mature than MPB, and when deciding BP she held her topline better, preferred her balance and proportions to 2, Rowes' Boloria's Tiger Lily. JB (7,1) 1 Dean's Brontillow Lady Dane, won on balance and movement, very nice type with harsh coat and a lovely size. 2 Pughe & Fraser's Bystock Extra Virgin, beautifully presented bitch with a lovely shape standing but rather deep in front on the move, held better topline than. 3 Gibson's Allfreys Rosabaya. YB (5) A very even class where the floor again took its toll, again a bitch I really liked crabbed around the ring as if she was on a skating rink without skates. 1 Greyahayne Lotty Merry, very well balanced and a lovely size, good ground clearance and strong driving hind action. 2 Brontillow Lady Dane, close decision, just beaten on hind action in this class, but moved much more freely than 3, McPherson & Paterson's Brumberhill Bellezza. PGB (2) 1 Kent's Lieblings Blarney Stone. 2 Vine's Gravetye Kiss Me Kate Cishelvine Two correct sized red bitches, excellent for make shape and soundness, 1 scored in balance of length to height, and in length of upper arm, and she was a serious contender for top honours, surprised to find these 2 in this class! LB (10,2) 1 McCalmonts' Silvae Solar CC, BOB, BIS, filled my eye completely, lovely head and eye, tail wagging all the time with typical wire temperament, correct size and coat, beautifully balanced and sound free mover, congratulations, won BOB on her exuberance, I do like a "live" wire! 2 Seath's Sunsong Pine Nut, another well balanced bitch with an easy free action once she realised the wall was not a threat, preferred her front movement today to. 3 Davies' Tendrow Joie De Vivre by Atahira, but another close decision. OB (9, 2) 1 McCalmonts' Ch Silva Solo, easy to see why she has carried all before her as she has super structure under the crispest of coats but her temperament can let her down, this and her length meant she had to give way to her better balanced sister and mother in the challenge. 2 Patersons' Ambiesque Allure, very sound, larger bitch but rather deep in ribbing which detracted from overall picture when stacked, easy free movement fore and aft won her this place over the lovely sized. 3 Pughe & Fraser's Ch Bystock Pussy Galore. VB (4,1) 1 McCalmonts' Ch Silvae Mystic RCC, BV, BVIS its no secret that I love this bitch and I was almost in tears seeing her look so well at 9 years old, still beautifully made, so good for size type and balance and coat and still moving like a dream, came very close to winning the CC but gave way to her daughter's youthful exuberance, won RBOB in a close contest on front construction and so pleased to see her win BVIS. 2 Gibson's Ch Allfreys Grace Kelly, lovely bitch in excellent condition and moving very well, really was unlucky to meet 1. 3 Coverley's Romanchi Tigua at Aventine
