SMOOTH-HAIRED

Thank you for the excellent entry of 51 dogs. Also thanks to the Scottish Dachshund Club for inviting me and an appreciation for my excellent steward. Temperaments on the whole were good. Only three lacking confidence, but in no way aggressive. The noise in sports halls puts off many dogs as it echoes. The floor, although pretty good is still not the texture which dogs prefer for standing on or moving, most coped but perhaps did not extend as normal. Some teeth and nails needed attention. I noticed quite a few with some wrinkle on front legs, even in my winners. Shallow and open feet were also evident in some. Overall I found shoulders with the correct angulation, both in layback and length of upper arm. Apart from my top winners in dogs and bitches were better in depth of quality, as in most breeds for some reason. When my BOB dog, CC bitch and BP did a lap of honour, they looked so alike for type. ‘Breeding will out'. PD (3, 1) 1 RCC and BP, Eales & Tite's Rijobeau Caught Red Handed. What a lovely start to my day. This 7 month red baby took my eye immediately. So typy, oozes quality, the most lovely head, length of neck and correct shoulders, not too big or deep for his age, his movement was a joy and so much confidence. He has ‘the look'. Shall watch his progress with interest. 2 Gatheral-Graham's Phaeland Screw Driver. Eight and a half months, another promising boy, not as collected on the move as winner, he is a little older than first but not such a steady showman, being a real baby in his ways. Lots to like, good ribbing and bone, typical head and eye. What bit I saw of his movement was sound, just needs more experience. JD (3, 1) 1 Chambers' Rijoblau I Swear Ya Honour At Vieldmoor. Red with a nice temperament, pleasing all through, good keel and depth, nice length, kept his shape standing and moving. 2 Brettell's Hampdach Inspector Morse At Diminudax. Black/tan. This one needs more confidence, especially on the table, although no way nasty, just would not settle, liked his head, decent front, his underline is not quite as good as the winner and moved a little wide behind, although the floor upset quite a few, being very smooth and no grip. PGD (4) Not a particularly strong class. 1 Lewis & Eddie's Abbagirls For Me And My Gal Welcumen. Dark sh red, very typy and a nice size, correct head and eye, good quarters, covered the ground moving, although not thin enough to penalise, he does need to body up and condition a little, his owner tells me he has only had him a little while so hopefully in a couple of months he will look a better dog. 2 Hampdach Inspector Morse At Diminudax. 3 Cocker & Battendach Let The Game Begin. LD 1 Gatheral-Graham' Phaeland Sheriffs Deputy. Correct size sh red, good length of keel and ribbing, well angulated fore and aft, sound mover, just a shade close coming to me. 2 Brettell's Hampdach Rich Legacy At Diminudax. Very typy lad, masculine head, lengthy neck and correct layback of shoulder, would prefer a little more length of upper arm, moved soundly, needs a little more confidence. OD (7) Lovely quality down the line. One dog I have admired refused to co-operate with a strange handler so had to take the penalty I'm afraid. 1 CC and BOB, Armstrong's Ch Lauralee Lloyd George. Quality black/tan. I have always admired this kennels type, as can be seen from the breeding of most winners here. Loved his head and eye. Has the roman nose seldom seen which gives an arrogant expression. Well filled front, correct keel and ribbing, he looks lovely stood and moving with good width going away and coming to me. 2 Hunt's Am Ch Bessdachs Beam Me Up At Carpaccio. Black/tan, lovely sized lad with lots to like, nice shaped head and eye, he also has the slight roman nose which does give a snooty look, sound and well made all through, did enough moving but seemed a bit bored today. Should be a useful dog for this breed. 3 McNaughton's Cedavoch Caladrim. PB (5) This class was a delight to judge, some promising babes. 1 Gatheral-Graham's Phaeland Smooth And Dark. As her name suggests, is a lovely blk/tan, 9 months, excellent size for her age, such a well constructed girl, feminine, correct head and eye, well developed front and ribbing, well angulated shoulders and quarters. If she had been more settled and not so silly, would have had more of a fight in the puppy challenge, however, I love puppies with happy temperaments. Promising. Best BP. 2 Williams' Rijobeau Innet Tu Winnit By Cwmdarhian. Lovely red girl, very close decision between her and the winner, excellent conformation all through, well ribbed back, nice depth with a good underline, hammy quarters, looked nice moving in profile, correct coming to me, just needs to muscle up behind which I'm sure she will with time on her side, very nice. 3 Dent's Phaeland Starla Dancer. JB (6, 1) 1 Gatheral-Graham's Rijobeau League Of Honour. Another very typy animal from this long established kennel, satisfying to go over on the table. Another who did not find the floor to her liking, however, she did enough to let me see that she is sound enough. Correct head and eye. 2 Armstrong's Cwmdarhian Thyme Will Tell. Very scopy black/tan, correct construction all through, good angulation, feminine head, not completely happy moving but I saw enough for her to be placed second. 3 Williams' Cwmdarhian Miss Betsy. PG (6, 1) 1 Rawson's Rosenket Melody Maker. Elegant, feminine blk/tan with a gleaming coat. All this kennels dogs are a lesson in conditioning and presentation, no long nails here, no flat splayed feet here, loved her head and expression, good neck leading into decent shoulders, well angulated behind, best mover here. 2 Dalgety's Thundergay My Fair Lady. Blk/tan, another well presented bitch, well made all through, head not quite as pleasing as winner, moved soundly enough but is apt to pull to one side a little. 3 Holburn's Phaeland Strathisla Dawn. LB (6, 2) 1 Quality class. 1 Norton's Matzell Mildred. CC, her second. Shouldn't take long for the third I'm sure. Have looked forward to going over this kennel's bitches, and ws not disappointed. Red lady with a wonderful disposition. On the table my hands flowed over her from her beautiful head and elegant neck to excellent shoulders, well angulated quarters, short hocks, she is an ideal size without any cloddiness, moved so freely with style, when it came to the challenge for BOB, unfortunately, she would not lift her head up so the dog just pipped her. Gorgeous. 2 Hunt's Lauralee Miss Chokey Wokey At Carpaccio. Again the lovely breeding I admire. Choc girl, always had a soft spot for this colour, very well made lady, well presented, excellent front and good feet, correct ribbing, just lacked enthusiasm on the move, though sound, keeping a level topline and correct underline, not quite the length of winner. OB (5) Hot class. 1 Armstrong's Lauralee Peeping Fawn. RCC. What a pretty name. Lovely feminine lady, again the beautiful head and eye with slight roman nose, looked stunning standing and moving, quite a difficult decision when it came to the CC. Surely she will have her day. 2 Norton's Ch Matzell Maid Of Honour. Very well known. I have admired her from the ringside on many occasions since she was a puppy, loses nothing in make and shape and soundness, just seemed to be lacking her usual sparkle today. I believe she has just come back from a litter. Thank you for the honour of judging her. Very worthy Champion. 3 McNaughton's Cedavoch I Love To Boogie.
