I was delighted to accept this invitation to judge standard long hairs. Such a lovely variety and, in my opinion, very strong in quality at this time. Our BIS judge, Ian Seath must have felt the same as I was delighted to watch BIS, BPIS and BVIS all go to my winners. Congratulations!

I was really spoilt for choice in some classes, and reckon there were easily 8 or 9 hounds present who were CC worthy. Quite a number of very promising youngsters to come through which bodes well for the variety.

A few points I found worth noting. Scaplulas on some are too upright and forward set, and still quite a few who are really pushing the boundary for size.

The hospitality from the committee was fabulous and thank you to my very efficient stewards.

Special Beginner Dog (1,0)

1st: VINCENT Gainscroft Dashing Dudley

Masculine red dog of correct size. Pleasing head but would prefer a little less stop. Balanced angulation fore and aft. Well boned but feet could have better knuckle. Hocks low to ground. Moved out well holding tail correctly. Well handled.

Minor Puppy Dog (1,0)

1st: TAYLOR & HILTON Delsaux Across the Universe

A raw baby with masculine head. A little stuffy in neck at moment as shoulder still a bit high. Very true and parallel going away. Correct tail set. Wouldn’t want him any bigger at this age.

Puppy Dog (1,0)

1st: REID Cavillibrook Final Legacy at Maudaxi

Very pleasing young male. Would like a slightly more masculine look to his head. Good fore angulation with lovely long keel and ribbing carried well back. Topline strong with correct loin. Very good feet. Front movement good from all directions but hocks a little weak going away. Time is on his side and I am sure he will be one to watch.

Junior Dog (2,0)

1st: VINCENT Gainscroft Dark Destroyer

Correct size with pleasing outline. Head could have slightly less stop. Good balanced angulation, prefer hocks a little lower to ground. Good feet. Moved well. Very well presented.

2nd: BURLEY & WAY Swansford Archerdor

Another nice male, a little heavier in head than 1st. Well made with balanced outline. Movement true enough, but a little laboured. Perhaps losing a little weight would help to put a spring in his step.

Novice Dog – No Entries

Post Graduate Dog (1,0)

1st: MCNAUGHTON Cedavoch Dark Magic

Black and tan with a good head. Nice outline with a strong topline and correct underline. His layback of shoulder could be better, feet could be tighter. Moving true in all directions.

Limit Dog (6,4)

1st: GEESON Abydachs Return of the Night – CC (his 3rd. Congratulations), BoB and BIS

Delighted to see this upstanding male go all the way today. Such an eye-catching hound from all directions. All male with quality headpiece and nothing overdone at all. Everything fitted as it should. Very good H-L ratio. Clean correct shoulders. Elegant both standing and moving which he did very soundly from all angles. Beautifully presented, and right out of the top drawer.

2nd: COOK & RHODES Abydachs Free Spirit for Bournder

Larger framed dog. Nice outline with good length of keel and ribbing carried well back. Correct front assembly. A little longer at hock than 1st. A bit too heavy coated which made him look a little stuffier than he actually was. Moved well.

Open Dog (4,2)

1st: ROBERTS Ch Swansford Gregorydor – RCC

Eye-catching male of lovely size. Could have a stronger underjaw but all quality. Great shape with correct shoulder. Topline strong with correct loin. Ribbing carried well back giving a sweeping underline. Very free and active mover in all directions. Lovely proportions. A worthy champion, unlucky to meet the CC winner today.

2nd: GARLICK Ranglewood Harvest Song

Larger frame than 1st and carrying too much coat. Shapely and well put together. A little reluctant on the move. Nice profile movement but a tad close going away.

Veteran Dog (2,0)

Nice to see the older boys out.

1st: GARLICK Ranglewood Arashi – BVIS

Handsome shaded red hound. Correct size. Head pleasing with good eye shape, well angulated fore and aft. Good top and underline. Sound on the move and held topline. Very pleased to see him go BVIS.

2nd: BURKE Bonavoir James Hobbs

Well up to size black and tan. A little soft in condition and topline a little loose. Could have better knuckle. Good front with correct angles. Moved soundly and true.

Special Beginner Bitch (4,1)

1st: VINCENT Gainscroft Dolly's Dina – BSB

A 13 month old black and tan. Loved everything about this little girl. Everything correct at this stage. Super size, beautifully presented in lovely coat. Her shapely outline was very pleasing. Had there been a prize for the dog the judge would like to take home she would have won it.

2nd: CHEESE Ranglewood Titania at Suecaseus

A 3yo red, very pretty and feminine head. Outline a little square, therefore a little more length of body would have balanced her better. Sound on the move. Well presented and handled.

3rd: LEWIS Mimosa Rude

Minor Puppy Bitch (2,0)

1st: BARNICOT & PASCOE Delsaux Lady Madonna of Fahoogle

Gorgeous black and tan. Really liked everything about her. Everything just as it should be at 7 months old, from her shapely and correct construction to her true movement. Unfortunate to meet the puppy bitch today who had maturity on her side.

2nd: LEGG Delsaux Strawberry Fields

Litter sister to 1st but not quite so forward in attitude. Pretty head, nicely out together and well presented. Very reluctant to co-operate with her handler on the floor making movement rather difficult to assess. Lots of time on her side.

Puppy Bitch (2,0)

1st: HANNEY-MITCHEL Cavallibrook Final Fling Bronia BP & BPIS

Very attractive young red girl of super type. Everything in place as it should be, from her feminine correct head, clean neck into well laid shoulders. Super front assembly and tight well knuckled feet. Long ribbing carried well back, giving correct underline. Strong topline, held well on the move. Good length of croup and correct tail set. Moved out so well for a youngster, must have a very promising future.

2nd: BARNICOT & PASCOE Delsaux Lady Madonna of Fahoogle

Junior Bitch (3,1)

1st: PAGET & CARROLL Cavallibrook Final Say at Marvale

2nd: BURLEY & WAY Swansford Almadora

A difficult decision because two different types and this could go either way on another day. 1st I wouldn’t want any bigger or lower and 2nd showing better ground clearance. Slightly better shoulders on 2nd, could be cleaner on 1st. Both had good heads. Both moved true coming and going. Toplines on both correct. 1st won on presence and movement.

Novice Bitch (1,1)

Post Graduate Bitch (3,0)

1st: GARLICK Ranglewood Islay

2nd: VINCENT Metadale Monica at Gainscroft

1st was correct size for me whereas 2nd was slightly bigger and rangier.  Head on 2nd was more pleasing as 1st had a little too much back skull. Both had correct front assembly and matching rear angulation, although 1st had better let down hocks. Both toplines firm and correct underlines. 1st had a beautiful coat and good feet. Movement on 1st was much more positive going away than 2nd.

3rd: LEWIS Mimosa Rude

Limit Bitch (4,0)

1st: DARE Swansford Coronadora Darsoms

Such an elegant black and tan with stunning ( not a word I use often or lightly) head and expression. Clean outline with super and matching angulation fore and aft. Strong well held topline and correct sweeping underline.  Would just like a little less coat and lying flatter to complete the overall picture.

2nd: CHEESE Africandawns Heidi Clare at Suecaseus

Unfortunate to meet 1st on such good form. Very pretty with good head, lovely shape, good shoulders. Topline and underline correct. Strong rear with good  angulation. Beautiful texture to coat but a little sparse at this time.

3rd: RODRIGUES Amberteckel Baltic Dawn at Islewin

Open Bitch (8,3)

I was spoiled for choice having some beautiful girls in this strong class, could easily have handed out more red cards.

1st: MCNAUGHTON Ch Cedavoch Blithe Spirit – CC

Everything correct, starting from her beautiful feminine head, running down a clean neck to correct shoulders, prominent prosternum, strong topline, long keel and ribbing, correct croup, strong rear with correct angulation. Wouldn’t want her longer or lower and on grass 1st and 2nd may have been reversed. A girl at the top of her game at the moment.

2nd: DARE Ch Darsoms Zymstique - RCC

Many of the same remarks apply and I was nit picking between the two. Slightly different outline to 1st, being a tad shorter with more ground clearance, but never the less the same very correct construction.

3rd: GEESON Ch Abydachs Fire in Her Soul

Veteran Bitch (2,1)

1st: GEESON Ch/Bel/Lux/Int Ch Abydachs Giving off Sparks

Very well constructed, pretty head, conical from above but a little weak in underjaw. Well constructed fore and aft. Very active and true on the move. Shown in lovely coat and condition.
