SCOTTISH DACHSHUND CLUB

Open Show 2023

BIS Judge : Jo Beckett-Hughes

I would like to thank the Committee of this lovely, friendly show for their invitation to judge all varieties of Dachshund and to my super stewards for keeping me organised, I thoroughly enjoyed my day. Unfortunately the absentee rate was just about 50% due to the vile weather attempting to batter Scotland into submission. I do hope those who were affected by the severe flooding are once again warm and dry.

1st & RBOB Balfour’s Clentry Mango Passion Nicely proportioned, balanced red bitch. Elbows close in and forelegs well placed and straight. Standing on good feet. Level topline and good underline. Would like a little more ground clearance which might be improved by dropping a little weight. Moved straight to and fro and well in profile but tail carriage a little high.

Open Dog – No entries

Open Bitch (4,2)

1st & BOB Rodger’s Cedavoch Sophisticate at Thundergay Well proportioned and balanced red bitch. Clean shoulders leading to nicely constructed forequarters with strong elbows and well placed forearm. Would prefer a little more ground clearance. Standing true on good feet. Well ribbed back leading to well angulated hindquarters. Moved straight to and fro and well in profile.

2nd Balfour’s Clentry Mickey Mania Another nicely balanced red bitch with a good head and excellent forechest. Moved straight to and fro, but this girl was carrying too much weight today which affected her outline and profile movement.

Good forechest and ground clearance. Standing on neat feet. Level topline and gently sloping underline. 2nd O’Hare Wilson’s Glendream Slice As Nice at Atikan Another very cute chocolate & tan puppy bitch. Many of the same comments apply: well balanced, nicely constructed forequarters with good ground clearance and neat feet. Level topline leading to well angulated hindquarters. Just not as tidy on the move as 1 today.

What a super class of promising puppies!

1st BPIB & BPIS Kirkwood Emery’s Helydon Tartan Talula What a super puppy: quality, excellent type, feminine, well balanced, good proportions and ground clearance. Wild boar girl with a strong yet feminine head, strong neck into well laid shoulders and tight elbows placed well under. Excellent forechest and good keel with gently sloping underline and level topline. Well set and carried tail. Moved straight to and fro and lovely in profile showing reach and drive from her strong hindquarters. Excellent coat. Very pleased to award her BPIB and BPIS pushed very hard for RBOB.

2nd Kirkwood’s Helydon Vexy Vixen Another quality girl built on slightly heavier lines than 1 but still feminine and well balanced with good proportions and ground clearance. Moved a little close behind but strode out well in profile.

3rd Gilroy’s Dachienne Everyday Life Yet another super puppy, slightly less mature than 1 & 2 but very promising.

Junior - No entries

Novice (2,1)

1st McIntosh’s Ceffylmor Ardanberg Nicely proportioned and balanced wild boar bitch almost 2 yrs old. Well balanced head. Forelegs set well under. Carrying too much weight today which obscured her outline and affected her movement in profile. Moved out straight.

Open Bitch (3,1)

1st BOB & BIS Kirkwood Emery’s Helydon Nifty Nairn JW Superb quality wild boar bitch, well presented in excellent coat and muscle condition. The mother of BPIB and has obviously passed on a lot of her qualities, so many of the same comments apply: excellent type, feminine, well balanced, good proportions and ground clearance. Strong but still feminine head, strong neck into well laid shoulders and tight elbows placing her forelegs well under. Good keel with gently sloping underline and level topline held well on the move. Well sprung ribs carried well back. Strong loin. Well set and carried tail. Moved straight out and back, putting on real style in profile. Her free, easy strides made her look like she could go all day without tiring. Best mover of the day. Handled very well in the challenge by the owner’s son to take BOB. Very pleased to award her BIS

2nd Gilroy’s Russteck Take A Chance On Me cum Claychalk Feminine and balanced wild boar bitch with good proportions and ground clearance. Good forechest and excellent keel with ribs carried well back. Super topline with arch over her short strong loin held well on the move. A little untidy out and back today but moved well in profile.
