Dachshund Standard Long-Haired: L (1) 1 Sutton’s Kindlace Texas Tornado at Damai. At lot to like about this dog. He has a masculine headpiece, good length of neck fitting cleanly into well placed shoulders with correct return. He has good bone and super feet. Loin could be shorter. He stands four square and moves soundly. RBoB. O (1) 1 Burke’s Bonavoir Secret Assignment. Many similar remarks to the winner of the previous class his overall picture is of a balanced dog with correct angles, well ribbed and stands four square. He possesses a free, sound and powerful movement BoB.

MP: (no entries) P: (1,0) 1. Kilroy’s Blackvein Rambler at Janacop, 9 month old WB bitch, excellent harsh coat, feminine head and good eye, good length of neck, correct shoulder angulation, level top line, ribbing just about sufficient, moved confidently though action not parallel and her tail flew a couple of times but she will no doubt settle given time BP & BoB J: (2,0) 1. Mills’ Tythe Fred Flintstone, 13 month old dapple boy, masculine head, correct eye, good neck, level top line, good front and shoulders, sufficient clearance, but short in ribbing, moved with confidence though liked his tail over much and action let him down with lack of drive and movement not parallel 2. Mills’ Newton Delight at Oniasid, 14 month old chocolate coated girl, good proportions but rather high at rear end, nice feminine head, a little upright at front and short in neck, ribbing fine, let herself down on the move.  PG: (4,1) 1. Peek & Peek-Matar’s Whiteorchard Tiggy Winkle of Milkwood, 22 month old red bitch, good harsh coat, very feminine head, good eye, well made front, good level top line, adequate ribbing, rather down on pasterns, moved confidently but too close fore and aft 2. West’s Archidax Hocus Pocus, 20 month old red bitch, a tad nervous on the table, feminine head if rather fine, good front, level top line, adequate ribbing, movement similar to class winner, just preferred overall construction of 1. 3. Stewart-Brown’s Pennywave Pink Gin L: (4,1) 1, West’s Archidax Dark Phoenix, 3 year old red bitch, excellent coat, nicely proportioned, feminine head, good eye, good front and level top line but ribbing could be longer, good clearance, moved well but lacking rear drive and parallel movement RBoB 2. Mills’ Middleton Hunt at Oniasid, 3 year old red bitch, well proportioned, good harsh coat, pleasing head and eye, good shoulders, top line dipped occasionally, movement very much as class winner, tight decision 3. Kilroy’s Blackvein Princess at Janacop O: (no entries)

Thank you to the committee for this appointment. The show had a relaxed and friendly atmosphere in a great venue. My steward was efficient and welcoming.  Miniature Long-Haired: P (4) 1 Phillips Summerview Daisy May. Such a well constructed B/T puppy lovely feminine head and well shaped eye, a good neck and correct front angles. Well ribbed, super topline and well angulated rear. Unsurprisingly she moves very well. Considered strongly for BoB but was more than happy to give her BP and then to see her go BP in Show well done. 2 Bullis’s Summerview Blushing Beauty. Again, all of the remarks that I have made on her litter sister above I can attribute to the girl. Her sister just pulled out the stops on the move. Two promising puppies. J (2) 1 McCarthy’s Nagshall The Odd Reason. This dog carries a masculine head and has a well constructed front a firm topline which he maintained on the move. 2 Krisjane’s Aurum Vendee Viggo Montersen. A happy boy with many good dachshund attributes a little high on the leg. PG (2) 1 Earley’s Yelva Princess Beatrix. This bitch is well made with correct proportions and carries a good head she has a firm topline although was a bit uncooperative and unsettled. 2 McCarthy’s Nagshall Mystic Oddysey. A rangier bitch than first, she has a good head and neck and well constructed front although loses her topline a little on the move. L (4) 1 Phillips Summerview Mini Mouse. A feminine but strong bitch. She has a good headpiece and good eye, a graceful neck that fits cleanly into a well laid shoulder, she has a corresponding good return of upperarm and an excellent pro sternum. She is well ribbed back and stands four square. She moves accurately keeping her good topline has good drive and extension. Pushed hard by her kennelmate for top honours. BoB. 2 Earley’s Yelva Silver Shadow. Attractive well marked silver dapple. She carries a good head and is balanced on the stack. She moved reasonably but was unsettled. O (3) 1 McCarthy’s D Nagshall Dutch Oddyssey. This dog carries a good masculine headpiece and a good front assembly. He has a good topline which he maintains on the move. Moves out well. 2 Early’s Willowheath Silver Queen of Yelva. Nice head with good make and shape. Moved Ok. I little less weight would have improved the picture overall.

My thanks to the committee for asking me again to judge, after shows in 2020 and ’21 had to be cancelled due to Covid. The setting was lovely, friendly dog showing on a sunny if breezy day amongst the trees of a pleasant park, very English! Squeezed between two championship shows at Blackpool the day before and another at Windsor four days later entries were inevitably affected, so my thanks to those who entered, and some from a distance. My only criticism (bête noire): dirty teeth – a number of exhibits showed signs of lack of recent attention. Finally, many thanks to my efficient steward, Elizabeth.

Wire-Haired Dachshund

MP: (1 entry, no absentees) 1. Dean & Moore’s Ulla von Hubberhorn with Dierfiur (Imp Rom), just 6 months old, wild boar (WB) bitch, good size and proportions if currently lacking depth of chest, but a decent front and length of ribbing, good length of neck, good rear angulation, fairly parallel fore and aft though still very raw as one would expect: I look forward to seeing how she develops. P: (1,0) 1. Parrott’s Derochaise Blue Angel at Marondera, an 11 month old puppy bitch, WB, much more mature than her MP colleague, well put together with a harsh coat, feminine head, correct eye, good angulation back and front, correct shoulder placement, level top line and underline sweeping up into the loin, but rather nervous and fidgety on the move and could have been more parallel in her action fore and aft BP  J: (1,0) 1. Howlett & Phillips’ Tendrow Makes the Right Turn, 13 month old WB bitch, similar in many ways to previous exhibit (same sire, as I found later), very pleasing outline, excellent coat, feminine head, good eye, correct shoulder placement, ribbing a shade short however, moved confidently with near parallel action RBoB PG: (3,1) 1. Dean’s Brontillow YanTan Tethera, 21 month old WB bitch, harsh dense coat, feminine head, good front, neck long enough, good top line, clearance not meeting the current standard, moved well with fairly parallel action but rear drive let her down slightly 2. Romanchi Neptunium into Tepotis, 4 year old dog, WB, masculine head, decent harsh coat, neck a little short and a bit short in upper arm, deep chest so clearance limited, good length of ribbing, level top line, front movement good but lacking in rear drive. L: (1,0) 1. Dean’s Brontillow King of Cups, 2 year old dog, WB, excellent harsh coat, strong masculine head, heavy build with deep chest and limited clearance, good front but a tad short in upper arm, tight feet, good top line, moved well and fairly parallel but lacking rear drive and still likes his tail O: (1,0) 1.Rowe’s Boloria Nice’N Spicy JW, 20 month old WB bitch, very feminine and full of verve, good eye, lovely coat, nicely proportioned and balanced, just a tad upright at front, good top line, enough clearance with chest flowing into loin, good length of ribbing and moved with parallel action and real confidence BoB. Delighted to see her go BiS, and win her crowning CC a few days later.
