Thank you to the committee of The Dachshund Club for the invitation to judge Standard Longs and Standard Smooths with no CC’s. This was a lovely well run show with a great atmosphere.

Thank you to the stewards Daniel, Mike and Elizabeth who assisted in keeping the ring moving and kept the paperwork correct. To exhibitors for their entries, for accepting my placings and the sportsmanship shown on the day.

All exhibits were presented to a high standard and in excellent condition and it was pleasing to note that teeth were clean and nails short. It was pleasing to see my BOB standard smooth Adnerb Take A Chance On Me At Raajput winning reserve BIS under respected judge Geoff Corish.

The generous proportions of the ring were certainly a bonus when assessing soundness of movement and give clarity to which exhibits would be fit for purpose. I looked for exhibits that could move soundly and that could work as a hound should do. I felt that temperaments were excellent in Standard Smooths and have improved greatly since the last time I have judged this variety. Well done breeders for this improvement. It was also pleasing to note that size in both varieties has certainly come down.

On a personal note I felt that some handlers failed to get the best from their dogs and that ringcraft would be beneficial to both. It was just hard to access some on the move. This is however just a personal observation.

 Standard Longs.

       Puppy Dog -  no entries.

       Junior Dog – no entries.

  1. N/D Dolan Marvalette – Red Conical head pleasing eye, flowing neck, ample front, well placed shoulders. Moved soundly out and back carrying a level topline however I felt needed a little more confidence to complete the picture.

  1. PG/D Abbalongdat Eagle – Red Nice type and size. Conical head with nice eye. Strong underjaw, flowing neck into well laid shoulders. Good ribbing, underline and well angulated quarters. Moved soundly carrying level topline.

  2. PG/D Ranglewood Oberon Of Kyrenia – Red again a similar type to no 1. Pleasing head and eye, nice size, ample neck, well laid shoulders, good ribbing with a short loin into well angulated quarters. Just felt that no 1 had the edge moving today. Though these 2 could swap places on another day.

  1. O/D Africandawns Justin N Time For Melminds – BD & RBB Red my notes says this was the best class so far. Lovely size, conical head with pleasing eye. Flowing neck into well laid shoulders. Excellent front, tight feet, good underline, ribbed right back, This male drove effortlessly around the ring. Presented in excellent condition.

  2. O/D Kindeace Texas Ranger – Red Once again a nice type, pleasing head and eye. Good front, tight feet and presented in good condition. Flowing neck into well placed shoulders, ribbing ok and held topline on the move. Moved soundly just felt 1 had the edge moving today.

1.     P/B Melminds Meryl Streep – BP Red My notes say a really happy exuberant puppy. Pleasing feminine head with oval eye, flowing neck into well laid shoulders. Good front with tight feet and nice underline. Moved freely today and overtime I am sure will mature into a nice bitch.

2.     P/B Abbalongdat Arrival – Red again a nice type, pleasing head and eye, nice feet, enough front however just didn’t have the confidence as No 1 today on the move. I am sure that this confidence will come with time.

1.     J/B Ranglewood Gigha Of Kyrenia – Red stood alone in this class. Feminine bitch, well balanced head which was carried well with a good eye shape. Correct front with a nice underline. Moved soundly out and back and maintained topline on the move. Presented in great condition.

1.     N/B Ranglewood Skye By Kyrenia – Red Very feminine bitch, classy head and eye shape. Nice bone and feet. Clean neck into well laid shoulders, good ribbing with a short loin. Moved soundly out and back and drove well from behind.

2.     N/B Melmind Maybelline – Red again another nice type, though I preferred the head piece on no 1 today. Good front with nice keel, tight feet, ample neck into well placed shoulders. Nice rear angulation moved correctly carrying level topline.

1.     PG/B Swansford Gleighdora – BB & BOB this bitch was excellent for type and quality. Caught my eye as she entered the ring. Ultra feminine, beautiful head piece and eye. Well filled front and correct keel, flowing neck into well placed shoulders. Ribbed right back with a short loin leading into beautiful hammy quarters. Looked a picture stacked and moved soundly. I am sure this bitch will have a bright future. Presented In tip top condition.

2.     PG/B Melminds Make Them Gold – Red Slightly taller and longer in type than no 1. Again typical head, dark eye and good ear set. Good front assembly, tight feet, adequate bone though I felt that no 1 had better bone. Flowing neck, well placed shoulders, good ribbing with a short loin. Well angulated quarters and moved soundly today. Again another one well presented.

1.     O/B Ch Abydachs Summer Dream At Kindeace ShCM VW – When I looked at the catalogue cannot believe this bitch is almost 12 yrs old. In excellent condition with gleaming teeth. Feminine bitch who is well constructed throughout. Nice head, dark eye, flowing neck into well placed shoulders. Well angulated both front and back. Moved soundly for age. Really seemed to enjoy her day out.

2.    O/B Territoria Lubvi Vesna At Kindeace – Red conical head with pleasing dark eye. Flowing neck into well placed shoulders. Ribbed right back with short loin into good hindquarters. Just   felt this bitch didn’t move as well as no 1 today

I would like to thank the committee for the invite, my super stewards, exhibitors for entering and accepting my decisions.

Overall the quality was good and exhibits were shown in lovely condition. I felt upper arm length and return could be better overall.

Puppy Dog (1)

1st Mill's Tythe Fred Flintstone

9month old with good ribbing, return of upper arm and tight feet.  Shown in excellent coat with good proportions.  Lovely head and moved well.  Has lots of positives to grow into as he matures.

Junior (1)

1st Corner's Carcorn Fabulous Frank

Strong masculine head.  Enough depth of chest and front placement, just needs better return of upper arm for me.  Strong rear movement needs to be encouraged to raise head on movement.  Good coat texture.

Junior Bitch (4, 2 Abs)

1st Howell's Fallowmill Miss Range Rover

2nd Hopper's Brynfaw Ace of Base

Moved away and back true.  Good coverage and width.  Good ribbing.  Not quite the shape or topline of 1 and coat ready to come out.

2nd PD Hanishan Neapolitan Urishay - Another lovely puppy with pleasing head and eye, a little shorter in neck than 1, moved well once going.

1st JD Ralines Just Jules - BD Lovely dog with pleasing eye, flowing neck into well laid shoulders. Level topline with good length of ribbing, nice rear angulation. Moved with drive.

2nd JD - class winner of PD

Novice No Entries

1st PGD - Nagshall Santa Paolo - Nice head and eye, flowing neck into a nice front assembly. Lovely rear angulation, moved well with drive.

1st OD - Ecotyne Devil’s Advocate - Lovely b&t with a nice head and eye, lovely shoulders with a level topline. Lovely rear angulation, moved well.

2nd OD - Nagshall Dutch Odyssey - Nice head and eye, flowing neck with lovely front assembly, nice rear angulation, moved well. Felt winner had move drive from behind.

1st PB - Dandydayo She Lives In You BP - beautiful red bitch with so much to like, lovely head and eye, lovely flowing neck with well laid shoulders, holds her topline beautifully on the move, well ribbed with short loin. Moved out with drive. I’m sure this girl has a bright future and will watch with interest.

2nd PB - Nagshall Mystic Oddysey - lovely girl with nice head, ample front, level topline and lovely rear angulation, moved well.

1st JB - Wildstar Wrolanda BB, BOB, this beautiful red bitch caught my eye as soon as she entered the ring. She is full of attitude and has an abundance of elegance. The most beautiful head and eye, flowing neck, well made shoulders, well ribbed back to strong short loin, lovely rear angulation. She covered the ground when she moved and held her topline. I couldn’t take my eyes off her and was later thrilled to see her put on another fabulous performance to see her go BIS.

2nd JB - Nagshall Odds On - lovely head, nice front assembly, well ribbed leading to a short loin, nice rear angulation, moved well.

1st NB - class winner of JB

2nd NB - Urishay Amaryllis At Revdvicki lovely head, nice flowing neck into nice front assembly, level topline, plenty ribbing with short loin, well angulated, moved well.

1st PGB - Summerview Holly Would - Red of nice type, nice front assembly, lovely topline on the move, nice rear angulation, moved well.

2nd PGB - Nagshall Santa Rosa - another nice girl, with very similar qualities as winner, to me she was slightly longer than 1.

OB - this was by far the best class of the day and both 1st and 2nd could switch places on any other day. 1st CH Wildstar Wrivera - Another beautiful red girl from this kennel. Full of elegance, beautiful to go over, easy to see why she is a champion. She was a real contender in the bitch challenge however she lacked the spark the novice/ junior winner possessed.

2nd OB - Dandydayo Kiss The Girl - Beautiful red girl, with feminine head and eye, lovely flowing neck leading to a well angulated front, pleasing top line, well laid back ribbing leading to short strong loin, moved well.

1.     P/D Leveliss Thomas The Rhymer – B/T BP Very nice male puppy. Lovely front and rear assembly, firm topline, well ribbed with short loin, into well angulated quarters. Just needs to settle on the move.

2.     P/D Longmel Lasting Truffle – B/T nice type lower to ground that no 1. Pleasing head and dark eye, sufficient front, nice feet and ribbing ok. Just wasn’t cooperating today with the handler either on the table or the ground. Should settle with time.

1.     J/D Almaznyi Laretz Ershalaim At Devondax – B/T nice type and size, wasn’t overdone in anyway. Good head piece, with oval eye. Flowing neck into well placed shoulders. Sufficient front, tight feet, good ribbing. Moved soundly with good topline. Stood alone in this class.

1       N/D Adnerb Sheer Nanagins – B/T again another of good size and not overdone in anyway. Pleasing conical head, dark eye, strong teeth and jaws. Good neck into well placed shoulders, excellent front and tight feet. Moved soundly but felt he had more to give.

1       PG/D Dovestream Black Russian At Dachshinbull – B/T stood alone in this class. The best of temperaments so happy both on the move and the table. Again another one of pleasing size. Again pleasing head and eye ample neck . Well formed prosternum, correct shoulder angles with nice tight elbows. Nicely angulated moved soundly with level topline.

1.     O/D Raajput’s Blacky Returns –  BD B/T Lovely type excelled with temperament and personality. As did all from this kennel. This male just wanted to be seen. Lovely head and eye, flowing neck into well placed shoulders with tight elbows. Excellent ribbing into a short loin with well angulated quarters. Moved so soundly and covered the ground with such ease.

2.     O/D Bensarka Limerick – Red So unlucky to come up against No 1. So many of the same qualities apply to this male. Typey male everything in the right place and not overdone in anyway at all. Good head, well placed shoulders, tight feet well angulated both front and back. Just felt that no 1 pushed out all the stops moving today.

1.     P/B Cedavoch Blowing A Gale To Swansford – Red this young lady looked so happy and was so full of herself as she entered the ring. Again nice for size and not overdone in any way. Feminine head piece with pleasing eye. Excellent front, with tight feet. Very clean shoulders with tight elbows. Ribbed right back with nice short loin. Nice hammy quarters. Should have a bright future. The male behaved better in the challenge for BP.

2.     P/B Adnerbs Not On Your Nellie Gobannium – S/R  another quality youngers, lots to like about this youngster. Good breed type, lovely head piece, best front with tight feet. Well ribbed, carried good topline and moved soundly especially on the rear. For me I just felt the tailset was a little bit high.

1.     J/B Ralines Lindy Hop Into Leveliss –  B/T again another top notch bitch. Picture on the table. Everything in the right place and right propositions. Feminine and nothing overdone. Good front construction with well placed shoulders. Strong loin and rear construction. Moved soundly however just didn’t want to pull out all the stops today on the move.

2.     J/B Ulybka Fortuny Zlatovlaska – Red finer and smaller in type than no 1. Pleasing head and eye, good forechest and nice ribbing. Wasn’t as settled on the move today and just needs to tighten up in front.

1.     PG/B Hampdach Alice Springs At Bensarka – Red fine feminine bitch. Good outline and proportions. Good to go over and everything in the right place. Well laid shoulder with good upper arm. Moved soundly with level topline at all times.

2.     PG/B Leveliss A Lover Spurned – B/T again another nice type from this kennel. Presented in tip top condition. Pleasing head and eye, good layback of shoulder and good spring of ribs. Pleasing front and good rear angulation. However I just felt she didn’t have enough animation on the move.

1.     O/B Adnerbs Take A Chance On Me At Raajput – B/T, BB, BOB & Res Best In Show, This bitch just stole my eye the minute she walked into the ring and did certainly did not disappoint on the table. Once again the best of temperaments and presented in excellent condition from this kennel. Full of elegance yet had quality and breed type. Lovely head, eye and expression, correctly angulated both front and back, well laid back shoulder, with correct ribbing into a short loin. Moved with purpose and drive and did not faulter. Pleased to watch this bitch go Res BIS.

2.     O/B Matzell Martinella – Red lovely type and unfortunate to come up against no 1 in this class. Quality head and expression, excellent front construction with well developed forechest. Flowing neck into well placed shoulders with tight elbows. Ribbed right back and excellent angulation. Moved soundly with a strong topline. Just felt No 1 had the edge today moving.

Thank you to the committee for the invitation – it’s always a real privilege to judge at a club show. Thank you also to the exhibitors for their entries and sportsmanship. I was pleased with the overall entry and quality, however one observation was that some dogs, in particular older puppies and young adults, could do with more table practice as their confidence was lacking. That said, there were no concerns with temperament. PD (4,2) 1 Russell’s Foxearth Tiger Roll, 11m b/t, good to go over and presented well on the stack. I appreciated his masculine head, front angulation, good topline and he was a purposeful mover. I would have preferred more neck but otherwise a nice boy. Pushed hard for BP but preferred the overall outline and length of the bitch. 2 Woods’ Bronia Palladio, 6m b/t with pleasing head, chest and topline. Slightly longer in loin than I’d prefer and front movement wasn’t as tidy as 1, but overall a promising youngster. JD (4,2) 1 Russell’s Foxearth Tiger Roll who won the class on overall balance and his movement. 2 Charlesworth’s Keydax Sensation, 12m red with pleasing head, and good movement and rear angulation, although he didn’t hold his topline as well on the move, and I would prefer more neck. OD (5,3) 1 Mutton’s Ivan Poddubny Iz Omskoi Kreposti for Montone (Imp Rus), 2yo b/t with appealing, masculine head and ears, good topline, nice feet and strong rear. He moved well with purpose and was a deserving class winner and BOS. I would have preferred less dewlap and, while I appreciated his size and length, the bitch’s overall proportions and movement edged him for BOB. 2 Rudkin’s Dynastydax Tarquin, 2yo red who also had a masculine head and expression, decent topline and sound movement, however I preferred the overall balance and rear movement of 1. PB (15,7) 1 Rudkin’s Dynastydax Alfreda, 9m b/t with highly appealing outline on both the stack and on the move. I appreciated her overall size and length, her reachy neck, head carriage on the move and her excellent topline. Her rear movement wasn’t the tidiest but was outweighed by her many merits to be awarded BPB, and then later BP and BPIS. Congratulations. 2 Hutchings & Price’s Collidach Splish Splash, 10m brindle with nice head and neck, very good topline and, once settled into her stride, purposeful movement. 3 Coote’s Andeysson Cape Verde. JB (6,1) 1 Mutton’s Montone That’s So Raven, appreciated her overall balance and proportions, not the best head, eyes and neck of the class but won the class on her movement (once settled into her stride), topline and angulation. 2 Talbot’s Winlaton China Girl, 14m feminine bitch with pleasing head and of a smaller type, but nicely balanced. Good neck, topline and feet, and moved well with drive. 3 Charlesworth’s Keydax Savannah. NB (9,3) 1 Herald’s Winterfield’s June of Arabia, 2yo b/t with appealing, feminine head which she carried proudly, and a correct topline which she held on the move. Her rear angulation and underline wasn’t the best in the class but she was a clear winner on her movement and overall proportions. 2 Rudkin’s Dynastydax Anastasia, 8m b/t, litter sister to BPIS, was well-covered but ok for her age. Feet ok, topline excellent and moved well however she needs more confidence on the table. 3 Charlesworth’s Keydax Queen Bee. PGB (12,8) 1 Charlesworth’s Keydax Pennies From Heaven, 2yo red of good proportions, eye-catching in profile. Very good front construction, nice ribbing and very good topline, although her head wasn’t my favourite of the class. She was a clear winner on her movement. 2 Rudkin’s Dynastydax Wilma, 18m red of taller type who moved well, maintaining her correct topline. Good angulation and feet but preferred the overall type and balance of 1. 3 Turner & Merryfield’s Barryamn Venus.
OB (7,3) 1 Beer’s Stargang Candy Stripes at Lowrider, 2yo brindle who caught my eye. She’s of a compact and well-balanced type who proudly carried herself as she covered the ring with a purposeful stride. She was also appealing on the stack, with a feminine head and expression, good chest and feet, and correct rear angulation. Was also pleased to award her BOB on her sound movement and appealing type. 2 Dunhill’s Cwmdarhian Annie Aokley at Gellijam, 22m b/t of larger and longer type with an appealing head and neck, although I preferred the front angulation of 1 and thought she was marginally long in loin. She covered the ring well with drive. 3 Rose’s Ardenrun Foolish Whisper at Rosencrantz.

Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge. I’d like to thank my two glamorous stewards and to all the exhibitors who entered under me.

All the standards wire dachshunds under me had all excellent temperaments.

PD 1st - Wyeknot looks like trouble - nice head, correct mouth, good front, nice lay of shoulder, good coat moved well.

2nd - Cishelvine Quintilian - good head and front, abit long in the loin, moved well.

JD 1st - Kasalane Ostiriato Sea Over Cishelvine - Nice conical head, correct mouth, good wire coat, moved well. Would have liked tighter feet.

ND 1st - Salixian Moroccan Mint BD - nice head, correct mouth, good wire coat, tight feet, good length of rib, moved well when handler relaxed.

ND 2nd - Cloudside Tomfoolery - good head, correct mouth, found he was soft in coat, moved better on a free lead.

PGD 1st - winner of novice dog

PDG 2nd - Atahira Ruffian - nice head, correct mouth, nice wire coat, moved well. Longer in loin than 1st.

OD 1st - Collidach Percy Cute At Samlane - Nice dog, correct conical head, correct bite, good wire coat, tight feet, dogs movement was restricted by handler moving to slow.

PGB 2nd - Tendrow Laced With Success - good head, correct mouth, good wire coat, nice length of rib, moved well.
