I would like to thank the West Riding Dachshund Association for affording me the honour of judging at their breed Open show. As March 17th is St Patrick’s Day the committee introduced the added touch of green and shamrock bunting to decorate the ring in honour of an Irishman judging. The show had a lovely friendly atmosphere. I would like to express my appreciation to committee and exhibitors for the very sporting manner in which judging proceeded. I had the pleasure of seeing many fine quality exhibits, and I appreciate those exhibitors who took the time, despite the weather, of presenting the dogs to me. I judged Longs, Smooths, Miniature Smooths, BIS, BPIS & Best Veteran.

Best In Show

I had a very fine line-up for BIS, all 6 being quality exhibits that deserved their place there.

BIS: Bennett, Long Haired, Shardoroba Country File – in addition to all said above, this dog proved himself outstanding, so correct in every aspect. He remained the truest moving dog in the final line-up.

RBIS: Hutchings, Wire Haired, Tendrow I’m The One From Collidach – True type for a Wire, feminine head, with beautiful expression, made from the correct proportions of foreface to skull, correct in eye size, shape and colour and likewise ears correct in size and shape and set to finish the expression, correct Wire coat that gives the right profusion of beard that makes her look true to type. Beautiful outline, given by excellent angulation in front, good length of upper arm to match that of the shoulder and meeting at the correct angle which allow the bitch to stride beautifully in front, good strong hindquarters, correctly angulated with good drive. Stands picture perfect of what a Wire should be.

Best Puppy In Show

Miniature Wire Haired, Kugow & Holt,Waldmeister Jonah – Correct in type, good balance in size between head and body, head of good proportion between foreface and skull, lovely expression, excellent in angulation in front and rear that allows very free movement, good length of upper arm that matches the shoulder at the correct angle, good length of forearm that allows confident striding out in front and creates the correct degree of ground clearance, correct angulation in hindquarters that gives excellent drive to complete the balanced movement. Correct texture of coat that gives the right profusion of beard. 2) Carey, Donnadoon Dark Moonbeam – in addition to all said above, stands in perfect profile, very sound and maintains his balance when moving.
