I would like to thank the committee of the
Northern Counties Dachshund Association for inviting me to judge at their
well-run show. I had pleasure in judging the Minature Wirehaired Dachshunds.
Most of my placings were well presented and correct to breed standard but I
found a lack of forechest in a number of exhibits. This meant incorrect
front angulation and ribbing, leading to poor rear angulation. In these
cases, there was then a lack of correct movement, no real drive from behind
and then a loosing of the topline while going round. On the whole mouths
were correct and clean but there was a lack of substance to a number of
exhibits. Tails were good and, on the whole, carried correctly, with no
kinks in them. I was sad to see a good number of dogs too long in the lower
limb and with weak angles both fore and aft. Please look closely when
breeding so that you breed to improve the breed and not just go to the
dog/breeder who is winning but what will make the next generation better
than before. Vet (3) 1 Ch Carlita Sunrise JW (Mills-Jones).7yr Dog. A lovely
correct head, length of neck and ear and eye placement. Correct angles to
front and rear, allowing him to drive fully on the move round the ring
keeping a level topline at all times. BV. 2 Molloney Winnie Tergames at
Wistex (Stephenson). 7 1/2yr Bitch. The comments for the winner largely
apply to this super little bitch but today she was not showing and moving at
her best. A pity as she is soundly constructed. Mpd (4) 1 Wistex Perfect
Storm (Stephenson).6mth Dog. What a great example of the breed and all that
I was looking for from his correct head through his front construction,
ribbing and rear angulation. Elbows will hopefully tighten but he moved
straight and true with a level topline and great rear drive. I look forward
to watching his progress as he matures. BPD and BPIB. 2 Dajean Spanish Gold
with Ottateck (Fitzherbert Stewart & Tomsett) 8mth Dog.A very correct head
with well laced eyes and ears. Good reach of neck and well constructed
throughout. As with the winner, his elbows need to tighten but that will
come with maturity. Maintained his topline when moving and was straight
coming and going.
Pd (1) 1 Weipowa Hocus Pocus (Hill). 3rd in
Minor puppy dog. Good head and reach of neck but a little too upright in his
front angulation for me. Maintained a level topline while moving and showed
straight lines when going and coming. Still lacking body at this age and
longer in lower limbs than I was looking for. Jd (5) 1 Ridanflight Gilcoru
Gino (Rose). 14mth red dog. A well constructed skull with correct eye and
ear placement. A very good reach of neck into excellent well laid back
shoulders and front construction. Well pronounced forechest. Very good rear
angulation that allowed him to drive out around the ring while maintaining a
level topline. Super straight going and coming. 2 Helydon Xtra Xpecial
(Kirkwood-Emery) 13mth dog. I could repeat myself in writing about this
young man and the class winner. The difference today was the lesser
drive-out in movement. On another day, they may well swap places. Pgd (3) 1
Rozelle Fools Gold (Mullen). 21mth red dog. What a pleasure to go over such
a soundly constructed dog. Correct skull shape, dentition and ear/eye set.
Great reach of neck into well laid back shoulders and front angulation. Rear
angulation was equally as good thus he was able to show real drive while
moving, but all the while maintaining that level topline. He will be pushing
for top honours soon, I have no doubt. 2 Collidach Thomas Tank (Price).
14mth dog. From this great kennel, another example of what correct breeding
can produce. As good as the winner today but lesser movement split them for
my decision. With quality like this to use in the breed, there is hope for
the future. Ld (4) 1 Bimini Moonrise at Carlita (Mills-Jones).17mth dog.
What was not to like here? A classic head, correct ear and eye position,
good clean dentition set on a good reach of neck into well laid back
shoulders. Correct front angulation and good forechest. Sound ribbing and
good rear angulation. All this allowed him to show excellent drive while
keeping that topline level. He was knocking on the door for a card today but
just missed out. It will come soon I am sure. 2 Carcorn Raphael’s Racer
(Corner).2yrs dog. I see that this young man is by a dog from a well known
kennel so I had expectations and was not disappointed. Classic head and
front construction, sound angulations and able to keep that topline as he
moved. As always, I am splitting hairs with positions and the winner just
showed a touch more drive today but on another day positions could well be
reversed. Od (9,1) 1 Griffingate St George for Drakesleat (Thorn
Andrews).17mth dog. It is for good reason that some kennels are top of the
pile. To have the pleasure of going over a dog of such quality, makes a
judge’s day. This young man oozed that quality throughout his time in the
class and then the challenge. I could find nothing to dislike from his
construction to his movement. All are spot on so it was a pleasure to place
him first then award him the CC to make him up. In the challenge, I fear the
length of day just got to him but thank you for the pleasure of going of
him.
2 Ridanflight Remo (Rose) 4yr red dog. Having
waxed lyrical about my winner, one feels a little deflated to try to rise
again for the runner up. This young man is also out of the top draw. Again,
there was little for me to fault here and I was splitting hairs in my
placements. Thus, I had no difficulty in calling him back in and awarding
him the RCC. I am sure that he will soon attain his title. It will be well
deserved. Special Beginners (2) 1 Dogrose Bee of Sound Mind (Umfreville).
Soundly constructed and a level topline as moved but I would have liked a
little more drive out in the movement. 2 Earthsea Dixieland Girl (Grant).
4yr bitch. Sound in construction but lacking in movement today. Would like
to see a more level topline on the move. Jb (4) 1 Emem Joyful Sunshine JW
(Dance). What a super stamp of bitch. Lovely correct head with eye and ear
set spot on. Great reach of neck into well laidback shoulders and excellent
front angulation, coupled with good forechest. Correct ribbing and rear
angles allowed her to demonstrate real drive around the ring then be
straight going and coming. A level topline at all times. Another great
exhibit from this kennel and I am sure she will be taking top honours before
long. 2 Almarxils Flamenco Dancer at Llennocor (O’connell). Unfortunately,
she was a little nervous today so I had to take my time and be patient. It
proved worthwhile as I found she was so correctly constructed and moved with
good drive when allowed to do so. If she can overcome the nerves, I am sure
she has a bright future. Yb (6,2)
1 Stargang Aurora (Blackburn) 19mth silver
dapple. This young lady has the wow factor. Her construction is spot on from
her head to her twinkling toes. She demanded to be looked at and admired at
all times. She really drove around the ring, showing clear pads as she did
so. Like my Dog CC winner, she was always telling me that she deserved the
CC. I could not deny her the BCC. In the challenge, she was equally
demanding and took BOB as she dazzled her way around the ring. I feel sure
she will have her title shortly. 2 Stargang Warrior Princess (Mrs G Davies).
Litter sister to my winner. Again, so soundly constructed allowing quality
movement and a level topline. Her sister just had the wow factor to day but
her day to shine will no doubt come soon. Pgb (7) 1 Rozelle Rosalie at
Janacop JW (Kilroy) 2yr red bitch. Much to like here with correct eye and
ear set and correct head shape. Good reach of neck and well laidback
shoulders. Both front and rear angulation was spot on allowing her show real
drive, going, coming and round the ring while keeping her topline. 2
Collidach Delta Storm (Hutchings) 15 mth bitch. Almost a carbon copy of the
winner in many ways but, today, just lacking the drive of the first place.
Lb (7,1) 1 Emem Hazel Sunshine JW (Dance) 2 1/2yrs bitch. This was a great
class, full of quality and none more so than this little lady. Everything I
wanted in this breed was there. So soundly constructed from head to tail
with her movement topping it all off and winning her the class. She was just
shaded in the challenge but could not be denied her RCC. 2 Dereheath Love Is
The Tonic (Gilkes & Storton & Storton) 3 ½ yr bitch. This was so close as
this bitch took my eye when she entered. She did not disappoint construction
wise and was equally as good as my winner but today she was out moved by the
class winner. I am sure her time will come. Ob (9,3) 1 Stargang Fanfare
(Blackburn) 2 1/2yrs bitch. Another excellent class, with quality throughout
and the winner considered for the top awards. Again, so soundly constructed
from head to tail and topped off with good movement, driving well on the
move and maintaining her topline throughout. She gave a good account of
herself in the challenge and will, I am sure, be challenging for her title
soon. 2 Ch Helydon Tartan Talula JW (Kirkwood-Emery) 2 1/2yrs bitch. Another
so soundly constructed in this excellent class. Good head, reach of neck and
angulation. Showed good movement and a level topline throughout but just
lost out on the final movement to the winner. On another day, I could
reverse my decision.
