MINIATURE WIRE HAIRED

I found type to be extremely varied and several prevalent faults cropped up repeatedly. I was surprised to find quite a few suspect mouths, several incorrect bites and many with missing incisors. Fronts have improved, though some were very narrow, shoulders in many were very upright, coupled with a very short upper arm. Most prevalent was short ribbing resulting in an over-long loin and a few decidedly dodgy toplines. Hindquarters, also, were not great on many exhibits. I was extremely surprised at the lack of presentation of some dogs. There is no excuse for filthy teeth, long nails or dirty coats - it is after all a Dog Show! That said, I was delighted to find some super dogs, put down in clean, hard condition and also some very promising youngsters. I found it impossible to judge to type but was pleased with the merits of my principal winners, especially the CC and Res. CC winners. It is easy to see why some kennels are always in the cards in this breed, which is not one that can be judged from the ringside. DOGS MP (8,2) 1 Thorn-Andrews' Drakesleat Honda Road. Harsh-coated, dark brindle, very rangy and raw but of lovely type. Moved very well, excelling in hind movement in this class. Well presented and very promising. 2 Barney's Varrami Juan Moment Romaunt. Smart brindle of similar type but lower to ground. Not as positive in hind movement as 1 but has time on his side. Beautifully presented. 3 Hooper's Starhill Kings Rhapsody. PD (6,2) 1 Blackburns Stargang Malachite. Very elegant brindle dog who excelled in front construction. Moved correctly with style, handled to get the best out of him. Sure he will have a bright future. 2 Thorn-Andrews; Skootamota Sukka of Drakesleat. Dark brindle of super type, lost out to 1 on lack of maturity. Moved soundly maintaining his topline. 3 Marston-Teal's Lordscairnie Once for Love. JD (4) Not a great class. 1 Punter's Welcumen Oscar. Workmanlike brindle dog, good head proportions but could do with a bit more neck. Moved steadily. 2 Hunt's Tysar Secret at Earthsea. Taller, finer brindle dog, not enough width for me. Moved ok but would like shorter, stronger hocks. 3 Oram's Rosswell Luciano. PGD (3) 1 Coles' Westonlee Trooper. Very sound, little brindle dog. Well-constructed all through, moved really well with drive and extension maintaining a strong topline. Put down in lovely nick. 2 Hassall's Charnealis Costa Lota Money. Brindle dog of nice type, not as good in coat as 1 and would like tighter elbows. Steady mover. 3 Hopgood's Dunnspitts Artful Dodger. LD (6) 1 Hayward's Foxearth News Flash. Smart, brindle dog who still needs to mature a bit, being a bit rangy at the moment. Really came into his own on the move, having super reach and drive. Very promising. 2 Smith's Dunnspitts Zakajak. Lighter, brindle dog, very neat and tidy. Shorter and cobbier than 1, moved really well. Keeping his topline in super condition. 3 Dance's Emem Storms Ahead. OD (9,2) 1 and C. C. Womble's Emem Wind in the Willows. Beautifully presented, dark brindle dog of lovely type, caught my eye immediately. Super head with dark eye, neat front, tight elbows, good layback of shoulder. Good length and spring of rib, super hindquarters with short strong hocks, which he really uses. Powered round the ring with reach and drive showing good hind extension. Just loved him and delighted to award him his crowning CC. Just going a bit short in front in the challenge for B.O.B. so had to give way to the bitch.2 Horsewell and Iwama's Jap Ch Drakesleat JP Trier Winshoten. (Imp). Very smart, brindle dog in clean, hard condition. Excels in front construction having a super front and good layback of shoulder. Moved with drive, keeping a firm topline. Unlucky to come up against 1. Res. CC. 3 Robertson's Ch Soletrader Denis the Menace. MPB (11,1) 1 Barney's Verrami Juan Fine Day. Very raw and roly poly. Super head, clean neck, tidy front with good pro sternum. Well-placed shoulders with good length of rib. Excelled in hind construction with super angulation, moved really well when her handler could keep her at ground level! Delightful temperament, just lost out to winner of puppy bitch on lack of maturity. 2 Rathbone's Waldmeister Willow at Brialand. Very smart, brindle bitch, longer cast but very similar in many ways. Super front, good layback of shoulder, well ribbed. Decent, hammy quarters, moved soundly though not as confident as 1 at present. Very promising. 3 Blackburn's Stargang True Blue. PB (11,2) 1 Baldwin's Beckel Let's Boogie. Lovely brindle bitch of super type and very mature for her age. Super head with good expression, prominent front, tight elbows. Well placed shoulders with good layback, good length and spring of rib. Short, strong loin. Good hind angulation and hammy quarters. Moved with drive keeping a strong topline. Put down to the minute and well handled. Loved her. Best puppy. 2 Blackburn's Stargang Doll Fin. Dark brindle bitch of different type with much to commend her. Elegant head, neat front , decent shoulders, well off for ribbing. Moved really well with a firm topline. Just not as positive in hind movement as 1 today. Nice bitch. 3 Cole's Kanix Nelly at Westonlee. JB (14,3) 1Marston-Teal's Lordscairnie Love Diamonds. Brindle bitch in clean, hard condition. Prominent front, good lay of shoulder. Adequate ribbing, moved well showing good extension and keeping a strong topline. Well presented 2 Price's Samlane Rosaleen. Smaller brindle bitch , very neat and tidy all through. Played her handler up in true dachshund style! Super front and shoulders. Well ribbed up and good hind construction. Unfortunately throwing her backend around a bit, but moved soundly when settled. 3 Hardy's Kushwin Enigma. PGB (8,1) 1 Miles' Gunnrange Ophelia with Jaybiem. Brindle bitch who excelled in front construction, well made all through. Moved soundly with drive, keeping her topline. Shown in hard condition. 2 Blackburn-Bennet's Stargang Kasino Kween. Longer cast brindle of nice type, would like a bit more width in front but a very sound bitch. Moved really well with a firm topline. Well presented and handled. 3 Wood's Wildstar Wrelish. LB (14,2) 1 Horswell's Drakesleat Voo Lay Voo. Dark brindle, houndy bitch of super type. Smart head, good length of neck, well placed shoulders. Strong ribbing of good length. Really driving from behind on the move. Well presented. 2 Angear's Ridgegrove Sugar Doll. Super bitch, lower to ground than 1. Well constructed all through but unfortunately unsettled on the move due to being run up by another exhibitor, which cost her the class. Well presented and handled. 3 Poxon's Kapodach Sakura Blush. OB (11,3) 1 Hutchings' Ch Molloney Zena Ghost. J.W. Sh CM. Extremely elegant dark brindle bitch, super head proportions. Good reach of neck running into well placed shoulders. Good length and spring of rib, strong loin. Super hind angulation and quarters. Really came into her own on the move, driving off her hocks she looked like she could go all day. Put down to the minute and handled to get every last ounce out of her. CC, BOB and RBIS. Well done. 2 Thorn-Andrews' Ch Drakesleat Luttuce Inn. . Classy bitch of similar type, in hard condition. Similar comments apply here, she just lacked the maturity of 1 but has time on her side. Sure we will hear a lot more of this one. Again put down beautifully, as were all of this exhibitor's dogs. Res. CC. 3 Blackburn's Ch Stargang Coffee Renoir.
