Many thanks to The Dachshund Club for the invitation making this the fourth time that I have judged for them. A great Honour. I first awarded CC’s to min longs 16 years ago, so have seen many changes good & bad with this lovely variety. As always you judge what you see there and then & that’s why my notes on every individual dog are so important. Looking back through my notes from this appointment a few points seem to stand out to me. While judging an exhibit as a whole, along with one’s personal preferences & interpretation of our breed standard, on this occasion narrow fronts and poor feet where most common. In my opinion today the males where far stronger than the bitches which is unusual. The quality through the limit & open dog classes was good to see. Don’t get me wrong type did vary but the general construction & soundness was very good. This really must be a good thing for breeders to actually have a look at these dogs along with their breeding to see what they have to offer their bitches. You really do have some lovely boys to choose from. Presentation was very good and teeth without exception where very clean which I know only too well how difficult it is to keep on top of mini longs teeth!. Having owned & been involved with the odd Champion min long I know how challenging it can be to keep a dog around the ideal weight but I have to say that all presented to me today where well covered & in ideal body condition. My entry of 103 was a fair representation of this variety & in this climate I was very honoured that I also had few absentees. I came away feeling confident that this varieties virtues outweighed the negatives & maybe it’s time for me to have another mini long!

MPD; (3,1abs).1, Oxley’s DINKIDAX JUST CREDIBLE, 8 month s/cr, neat package & all in proportion. Very good head & dark almond eye, enough neck leading into well placed shoulders, good bone & feet, firm topline & good ribbing for age, short loins leading into well made hammy quarters. Very sound coming & going presenting a lovely overall picture in profile. At this stage he needs more drive & follow through from behind which lost him the next class but I feel sure this will come with time. Promising. 2; McCarthy’s NAGSHALL MR TAMBOURINE MAN, 7 month red, bigger & more exaggerated throughout, lovely type, very good head & expression, well arched neck leading into well placed shoulders, plenty of fore chest but still quite loose & not as neat fitting in front as 1, very good ribbing with correct top & underlines, well angulated behind with firm neat parallel hocks. Sound enough for a immature baby & the potential in profile is there. Lovely coat & condition, time will tell.

PD;(4).1,Barnsdale & Hayward-Barnsdale’s CHRISKIM’S TRAIL BLAZER, 11 month s/red reminded me very much of the old type we used to see, so very attractive & his overall profile picture is very eye-catching. Beautiful head & dark almond eye, Long well arched neck leading into well placed shoulders, his neck & carriage was a joy to see, very good body & ribbing, firm topline, short loins leading into well angulated quarters, good length of second thigh & firm & parallel. Could be more precise coming towards me but bang on going away. His reach & follow through in profile is correct & his overall picture quite beautiful. In stunning coat & condition. If you take this boy as the overall package then there is no reason why he shouldn’t go on to better things. Good luck.BP. 2, DINKIDAX JUST CREDIBLE. 3, MR TAMBOURINE MAN

JD; (5). 1,Hallsworth’s ABYDACHS ANISEED, 16 month s/cr, well made youngster all in proportion, very good head & dark point, good neck & carriage, plenty of forechest though still needs to tighten in front, quite long in body but in proportion & well developed. Very good ribbing with good firm top line. Short well filled loins leading into super hind quarters. Touch untidy in front today but dead parallel moving away. He can really motor in profile keeping a very good outline, another with that lovely head carriage, has the finish in body, coat & maturity which took him over 2, but in my book two very good youngsters. 2, TRAIL BLAZER. 3, Early’s YELVA MISTER BRANDY MAN

PGD;(6,1). 1, Wharton’s WHARTONA HUCKELBERRY FINN, very promising 19 month cream, loved his head & expression, dark points with a good strong under jaw, ears well set, good length of neck & carriage, plenty of fore chest just needs to tighten a touch in elbow. Well laid shoulders leading into very good body & ribbing. Short thick loins leading into very well made hind quarters. Tail well set & carried. Very sound coming & going. The more he went in profile the better he looked, lovely carriage keeping a beautiful outline clearly displaying correct reach & follow through. In lovely coat & condition. A useful boy I would think & very close up in the challenge. 2, McCarthy’s NAGSHALL JUST SANTANA, 18 m s/cr , more exaggerated throughout but balanced, loved his head & expression, long well arched neck leading into well laid shoulders, another who needs to tighten in elbows, plenty of fore chest , good ribbing with firm topline, well made behind but could be a shade shorter in hock. Quite sound coming & going giving a good performance in profile. His lovely coat & condition help finish the picture. 3, Woodage’s TOTONIAN TOSCANNI

LD; (9). 1 & RCC, Brooks’ RALINES ROMEO AT LYNDARLEA JW, 18 month S/cr, really fell for this boy as he totally filled my eye on the first instance, on the table he is a joy to go over, real houndy head masculine yet no sign of coarseness, lovely dark points with good strong teeth & jaws, lovely well arched neck leading into copy book shoulders & front construction. Fantastic bone & feet. Ribbing is long extending well back with correct top & underlines, short loins leading into well-muscled & angulated quarters. Very sound coming & going projecting himself well in profile clearly covering the ground. His coat & condition is a real treat & gives that overall finish to him. For me at times I felt he could have stepped his profile action up a gear & if that means flying his tail a touch who cares!. Can only be useful to this variety as he has so much to offer. 2, Johnson’s CHARPURDY’S GOLD McNUGGET, 3 yr b/t, beautiful type, all in proportion, good head & expression, enough neck leading into first class front construction, everything fits so well & is correct. Shorter in body proportions than one, good ribbing correct firm topline that he held at all times. Short thick loins leading into well contructed quarters. Shade longer in hock to 1 but firm & parallel. Ultra sound coming & going clearly displaying lovely free profile movement. Another soundly made useful dog I would think. 3, Bedford’s GARBOSA SIMLY SPLENDID OF DINKIDUDLOR

OD; (7). A real treat of a class to sort out containing 5 very worthy Champions. 1, CC,BOB & BIS, Angear’s Ch RIDGEGROVE IN DISQUISE, 20 month b/t. Just beautiful. Here we have the overall finished picture of an outstanding mini long. He oozes breed type & conformation. Lovely head & expression, ears correctly set & of good length. Lovely well arched neck leading into well placed shoulders, his angels are perfect. Plenty of fore chest & width. Superb bone, legs & the tightest well bunched feet. Ribbing is well sprung with cast iron topline. Correct underline. Short thick loins leading into hind quarters with copy book angles & the neatest shortest pair of hocks. Ultra sound coming & going, in profile his outline is faultless clearly displaying excellent reach & follow through. His head carriage & outlook along with his gleaming coat & condition give you a finished picture of near perfection that you cannot ignore. A real pleasure to award him top honours & a delight to see him top the lot under one of our top Dachshund specialists Mrs Ros Rawson. Congratulations.2, Walters’ Ch RALINES JUST OZZIE, 2 yr s/cr ,another who shouts breed type, so beautifully made & so good to go over on the table. Possibly a shade more compact throughout but everything flows & is in proportion. Very good head & eye, enough neck leading into very good shoulders & front construction. Tight elbows with lovely legs & feet, good body & ribbing with firm topline, short loins leading into well made quarters. Tail correctly set & carried. Another ultra sound boy coming & going & he too can really reach & drive in profile. Just not the overall finish in coat as 1 & I just preferred the little extra in body length of the limit winner for the rcc. A real sound honest Dachshund. 3, Young’s Ch WILLOWHEATH HENDRIX

VD; (1), 1, Broad’s JENWOOD RING OF BELLS, 12 yr c/red, lovely type & outline, super head & eye , lovely neck leading into very good shoulders. Very good body & ribbing with a sat iron topline. So well-muscled throughout & has the strongest parallel hocks. Still a sound enough boy coming & going & in profile keeps that lovely classic outline. A real credit to his owners.

SP B D/B (2). 1, Drady’s JUMANDA’S SILVER SPARKLE AT INDIKO, 3 yr s/dapple bitch, lovely type, appealing head & dark eye, good neck leading into very good boy proportions & condition. Very good top & underlines. Tail well set & carried. Not as precise as some up & down but keeps a good outline in profile showing very well. 2, Drady’s TOLBERG PADDY GUINESS AT INDIKO, top size 14 month b/t, quite long & exaggerated, loved his bone legs & feet & he excels in hind quarters. Fantastic coat & condition. Still a raw youngster needing plenty of time

MPB; (8,2). 1, Palin’s SANMIK ICE QUEEN, 6 month s/cr with so much to offer. Neat & in proportion. Very good head & dark points, enough neck leading into very good shoulders, tight elbows, super legs & feet. Very good body & ribbing for a baby, firm topline, short loins, nice thick hammy quarters. So sound for one so young, really moves out in profile with such a good gait & overall picture. Coat & condition just right. Full of promise BPB. 2, Brace’s XEMXIJA ICE FLIRTINI, 7 m cream, another full of breed type & promise, really feminine head & expression, lovely neck & very good shoulders. Good body & ribbing. Well made behind though a touch longer in hock than 1. Sound for a baby up & down & can move out lovely in profile. In super coat & condition showing lots of potential. 3, Hall’s CLIFFMERE STARLITE EXPRESS

PB;(8,1). 1, Palin’s SUACY SARAH, absolutely beautiful to go over, 7 month red, everything flows into place, lovely head & expression, well arched neck leading into very good shoulders, tight elbows ,good fore chest & width. Ribbing extends well back & height to length ratio is correct. Firm topline with well angulated neat hocks. Very sound coming & going & in profile gives a pleasing picture even if she still wants to play!. Full of promise, in lovely coat & condition. 2, Johnson’s CHARPURDY JUSTIFICATION, 9 month b/t, a shade smaller & compact. She too is so lovely to go over on the table, beautiful head & sweet feminine expression. Good neck & carriage leading into very good shoulders. Good body & ribbing with excellent top & underlines. Very well made hind quarters with beautiful length of second thigh. Another sound girl coming & going, reaching out & following through well in profile keeping a classic outline. Lovely coat & condition. 3, Barnsdale & Hayward-Barnsdale’s DOLYHARPS ALL THAT JAZZ AT CHRISKIMS

JB; (14,1). A very good class to sort out with quality in all those placed. 1 & CC Locket Walters & Walters RALINES POPPING KANDI, exquisite ultra-feminine 14m s/cr, she took my eye on the first instance & going over her on the table confirmed what I had seen. Most gorgeous head & sweet expression, dark points throughout, ears correctly set & correct length. Lovely well arched neck leading into first class shoulders & front construction. Tight elbows, super legs & feet. Plenty of forechest & width, very good body & ribbing, good firm topline which she held at all times. Short thick loins, hind quarters are so well made & hocks are firm & parallel. Tail is correctly set & carried. Sound as a bell coming & going & steps up a gear in profile where her action is a object lesson in correctness. So neat & all of a piece. A shade more coat will finish this outstanding picture but when it came to the final crunch, for sheer quality, construction & femininity there was no denying her the CC which is her 2nd.Well done. 2, Angear’s RIDGEGROVE POLLY ANNA, I just loved this 15 month red, in full coat & looking the part here. Beautiful head & expression, long neck leading into well placed shoulders. Good tight elbows. Good body & ribbing with a shade more ground clearance to1. Good firm topline. Very good hind quarters so well-muscled, firm & parallel. Another ultra sound coming & going, projecting herself well in profile. Maybe more finished than1 but Kandi was a shade less exaggerated. A top flight bitch who will make up, called her in for the rcc but she decided not to give her best performance, pity. 3, Rowell’s TOLBERG TIA DROP AT EMMAJESK

PGB;(13,1).1, Poole’s FINDOWRIE DARCIA ROSE, 19 month s/red, this nicely made bitch headed this very difficult class to sort out. Good head & proportions, lovely long neck leading into well laid shoulders, good forechest, tight elbows, quite long in body but in proportion with a solid topline that never falters, very good ribbing & underline, firm well angulated quarters though a touch shade long in hock for me. Very sound coming & going moving out well in profile keeping a typical outline. A convincing winner in lovely coat & condition. 2, Young’s WILLOWHEATH FOXY MUSIC, another very nice type, 19 m s/red. A shade lower to ground but well made throughout. Good head though a touch round in eye, good neck & carriage leading into well placed shoulders, very good body & ribbing with good top & underlines. Short loins leading into the neatest hammiest quarters!. Sound enough coming but excels behind & this shows in her profile movement, she really drives out. Beautiful coat & condition. 3, Chappel’s GLENEDDEE MIZ COOL CHICK

LB; (16,3).Edwards’ BAROK BLONDELIAH, this 5 yr old give you a good overall picture of a fully matured well-constructed bitch full of type & quality. She is quite classic in every way, lovely head & eye, lovely ears & fringing, long well arched neck leading into good shoulders. Plenty of front that fits so neatly. Tight elbows, good body with matching height to length ratio, ribbing extends well back with a good solid topline. Shortest of loins leading into very good quarters. Tail is well set & carried. Ultra sound coming & going, giving a very pleasing picture in profile with a lovely head carriage, projecting herself so well. In faultless coat & condition.  here in her class she put up a super performance to beat 2 but in the challenge faded somehow. A very good honest bitch. 2, Locket-Walters & Walters RALINES DIAMOND CLUSTER, 19 month b/t a shade lower to ground and a shade longer but all in proportion. Very attractive feminine head & eye, good long neck that flows into first class shoulders, tight elbows, feet could be tighter, well ribbed with firm backline, very well made quarters with firm neat parallel hocks, today not as precise as 1 coming towards me but ultra sound moving away. Beautiful in profile really moving out well covering the ground. In lovely coat & condition. Another really nice bitch.3, Barnsdale & Hayward-Barnsdale’s CHRISKIM’S DREAM CATCHER

OB;(14,2). 1 & RCC Geeson’s Ch ABYDACHS ABSOLUTELY, 2 ½ yr b/t, beautifully made through out, one you really need to get your hands on to appreciate how she’s made & how everything flows. Good head with correct ratio’s from muzzle to skull. Lovely well arched neck leading into very good shoulders. Plenty of fore chest with lots of room held on super legs & feet. She excels in body & condition, good well sprung ribbing with lovely top & underlines. Short firm loins leading into well-muscled & angulated hind quarters. Her tail is beautifully set & well carried at all times. She is totally sound coming & going & in profile she can really cover the ground effortlessly with lovely neck carriage & an outline that doesn’t falter!. Fantastic condition throughout & put up a good fight in the challenge where the more ultra-feminine head & tighter almond shaped eye of the junior won the day. 2, Mcalpine & Coxon’s Ch/Ir Ch WALPINES BRANDY CREAM, very smart 4yr cream, a shade more ground clearance than 1, so well made & the table examination confirms this. Sweet feminine head & expression, long well arched neck leading into very good shoulders with nice tight elbows. Very good ribbing with good top & underlines, short loins lead into very good hind quarters though obviously a shade longer in hock than 1, so well-muscled throughout & so sound coming & going. Puts up a polished performance in profile with real reach & follow through keeping so in tune with her handler. Quality girl.3, Holmes’ TAMMERA JUST ELEGANT

VB; (1). 1 & BV, Sainsbury’s BOSCOLLA THE LADY ISABELLA, 13 yr cream in the most sunning condition. Even at this age her overall picture & projection in profile is just wonderful to see. Very good head & eye with lovely dark points, long well arched neck leading into well laid shoulders, very good body & ribbing with cast iron topline. Short loins with nicely angulated quarters. Still sound enough coming & going & still reaches out well in profile with great drive from behind. In lovely coat & a real credit to her owners
