My thanks to the Committee for the invitation to judge and especially to the exhibitors who gave me a fantastic entry. In many classes spoilt for choice. It surprised me how much bigger this variety looks than the smooth and wire haired, all due to coat. I was impressed that on the whole the exhibits looked comfortable within their weight size ratio. In all the entry there was only one that tipped the scales and he was withdrawn. There were only a few that I wished had less coat. In the main they had just about the right quantity, enhancing but not disguising their lines. In general mouths were good also temperaments. Rear assemblies had less variation that the Standards I judged last year. Mostly well proportioned in length of bone s& angles concerned with v few high hocks which do seriously impede hind action. This made rear movement good with evidence of drive. V few “tummy tappers”. Dachshunds are or should be full of character whatever their size and I would have loved to have seen some flying like kites at the end of their leads. All our show d’s, whatever their breed are so well show trained that there are few individuals left. Sad. Forehands had a little more variation, a few looking as if tacked on the front rather than a part of it. Feet on the whole no better of worse than the other varieties. Sadly there seemed to be plenty with short rib cage. The Dachshund body should be long but with a short loin. This surely means that the ribcage must be long “well ribbed up”. It is a fault that seems to be creeping into other breeds as well. Having said this underlines were good with few sharp “cut ups”. Necks were of good length. I didn’t feel the need to stretch them to achieve a good balance. Heads were v variable. Few v “houndy” which they should be even if miniatures. The most common faults were low set ears and short forefaces. Some even had really pronounced stops. Poor heads spoilt the chances of some with really good bodies. Finally I hate flagpole tails and guess what, not a single really gad one!  MPD (2). 1 Boyles Polinard Mill Of Fortune. Most attractive self masked cream. In excellent coat and condition. Balanced throughout with good neck and front. Obviously enjoying his day out BPD; 2 Vinee’s Cishelvine Twilite Avenger. BT. A real baby still needing to grow into his head and not yet quite sure of what was expected of him. PD (4). 1 Welton’s Chelane Casper Carrot. Self masked cream. Well balanced good front and neck, moved well and soundly. Heavily coated for one so young; 2 Phillip’ Rossdach Your Song. Brindle with lovely top and under lines. Sound and balanced. Preferred head of one; 3 Jamieson Silver Ado By Djeata. PD (4). 1 Colley and Buchan’s Stainsacre The Riddler. Well matured BT with heavy coat. Good keel front and head. Balanced. Moved well; 2 Brook’s Lyndarlea Piper Kris. Self masked cream with just the right amount of coat. Coat and body in good condition. Good balance of ribs to loin. Again preferred head of one; 3 Norton’s Halunke Just Jeruis. PGD (6). 1 Brooks Lyndarlea Choc Ice. I really felt for this boy. Neat balanced and moved well and truly. Good rib cage to loin proportions. Just the right amount of coat which was in shining condition. Looked as if he was enjoying himself. A little more covering would have made him unbeatable. RCC: 2 Geeson’s Abydach Anarchy. Red in excellent condition both coat and body. Not quite as balanced in head and neck as one. Not as enthusiastic on the move; 3 Wood’s Helmfoot Hunky Rory. LD (12). 1 Illidge’s Paradachs Murphy Moonshine. BT of good length and clean cut lines. Pleasing head and front. Balanced body, moved well and with purpose; 2 Angear’s Ridgegrove Alfie Moon. Another BT and a close decision. Again coat and body just right. Moved well. Just not quite the length of 1; 3 Garman’s Albany Cornish Cream. OD (9). 1 Lockett’s Ch Ralines Royal Statesman. BT making a complete picture. All points melding together. Good length, pleasing head, coat and body condition great. Moved soundly and with purpose holding his topline. CC and BOB and delighted to see he went RBIS; 2 Buchan and Colley’s Ebony Night Runner At Helenium. Another lovely BT. Just not quite the complete picture of one and slightly shorter in body length; 3 Roberts’ CH Denver Jack Frost. V (3). 1 One his own but a well deserved first Vaughan’s Tisanti Cream Toffee. Cream d holding his shape well for age and enjoying his day. Like many of his colour today, good balance of rib to loin without quite the length that I like. MPB (9). 1 Blackshaws’ Ravenways Give Me Time. Red p with a great attitude which showed in her movement. Excellent keel and front. Level topline; 2 Hall’s Cliffmere Dandelion. Another red, smaller all over than 1. Preferred front of 1, but using herself well. Level topline and good coat; 3 Boyle’s Zarcrest Black Classic. PB (9). 1 Thomas’ Shenaligh Sweet Saphire. Red again. Excellent topline with good balanced body and nice head, Moved well with that little bit extra that gave her BP; 2 Shutt’s Chocolate Enchantress Of Donnodoon. Choc/tan of good type, not over done in any way. Moved well; 3 Lockett’s Ralines Gold Medal. JB (14). Two different types here each with many things about them that I really like, making this decision the most difficult of the day. 1 Robert’s Denver Love Me Tender. Pale cream with v good ratio of rib to loin. Well bodied and with excellent top and underlines. She moved well as you would expect from her conformation. CC; 2 Hanney’s Bronia Serenity. Red with a real houndy look about her, especially her head. She moved well and had a good coat, neck, front and back assemblies. I just preferred ratio of rib to loin of 1. RCC; 3 Young’s Willowheath Cheeky Girl. PGB (22). 1 Lyndarlea Gem Of Nite. Dark dapple. Moved v well. Good length with excellent fore and at assemblies; 2 Holmes’ Tammera Touch Of Elegance. Red shorter cast than 1 but with excellent keel and front; 3 Earley’s Yelva Silver Cloud. LB (17). 1 Banting’s Indicott Moonglow. V pretty mature balanced red. Excellent top and under lines. Moved well; 2 Young’s Willowheath Silver Angel. Dapple. What an intriguing colour it is. Longer cast than 1 and moved nicely though preferred rear assembly of 1. Super keel; 3 Hazelby’s Evadanne Daniella Rose. OB (19). 1 Johnson’s Charpurdy New Dawn. Mature red b, nearly a veteran I see from the catalogue. Carrying her age well and moved as one younger. One with well set ears; 2 Thomas’ Shenaligh Sweet Dreams. Pretty elegant red. Smaller all over but didn’t hold her topline as well; 3 Blackshaw’s Minard Shes A Peach At Ravenways.
