The Dachshund Club Championship Show 19th November 2022

It was an honour to be invited to judge at the Dachshund Club’s Championship Show and certainly a highlight of my judging career. The show attracted a fantastic entry and I congratulate the committee for putting on such an impressive event. I also thank each of the breed judges for putting forward a lovely selection of dogs for me to assess in the final competitions. There is certainly real strength of quality in the Longhaired variety at the moment.

Best in Show

Geeson’s Abydachs Return of the Night. Shaded Red Longhaired dog just under 2 years old; presented in beautiful condition and turned out to perfection. Good bone and substance but not overly big. Well-constructed in front, with a good amount of forechest. Correct proportions and ground clearance. Moved with good reach in front and drive at the rear, keeping a firm topline at all times. I was pleased to see that he won his 3rd and crowning CC today.

Reserve Best in Show

Moes & Williams’s Cwmdarhian the Governess. Red bitch of just 13 months, presented in well-muscled condition. Lovely reachy neck with well laid-back shoulder placement. Super underline. Correct amount of ground clearance allowing free movement. Moved parallel coming and going away, holding a lovely outline at all times.

I loved watching both these dogs stepping out round the ring in their lap of honour; both looked like fit, healthy hounds enjoying their day out. Congratulations.

Best Puppy in Show

Hanney-Mitchell’s Cavallibrook Final Fling Bronia. 10 month Shaded Red bitch, presented in gleaming condition, as always by this handler. Good reach of neck, length of upper arm, tight-fitting elbows, and layback of shoulder. This youngster moves with such drive and with correct parallel movement at both ends. Hard to take your eyes off her on the move.

Reserve Best Puppy in Show

Blackburn’s Stargang Plutonium. Wild Boar Dapple Mini Wire of just 6 months and who is a real extrovert baby with lots of promise. Compact proportions but with good bone. Good length of ribbing. Fantastic Wire coat. Really well-angulated behind, allowed him to move with drive. A really happy puppy on the move. Definitely one to watch for the future, having won his first CC today.

Best Veteran in Show

A lovely selection of veterans to choose from and a hat-trick of top awards for the Standard Longs!

Garlick’s Ranglewood Arashi. Fine, upstanding Shaded Red Long; 8 years old and in lovely condition. Excellent topline. Well-angulated forequarters. Good length of ribbing. Topline held on the move and he steps out with good drive.

Best Special Beginner in Show

Herald’s Winterfield's June of Arabia. 3-year-old Black & Tan Mini Smooth bitch. Correct proportions, size, and good amount of ground clearance. Good reach of neck and prominent forechest. Would prefer a slightly neater underline. Parallel but a little wide going away. Held a firm topline on the move.
