Long Haired Dachshund Club 2011

BEST IN SHOW

It is some years since last I judged best in show at the Club championship show. I was thrilled and heartened by the quality of the exhibits shown. The best in show winner was an outstanding black & tan 17 month young male, Africandawns Night Kisses At Darsoms owned by Mrs C Dare. I have owned and bred Dachshunds since 1943 and to meet such a superb specimen was an honour. What a showman; he moved like a star, keeping his outline true at all paces coming and going. Great  length of ribbing, depth of chest and strong hindquarters. Excellent front assembly, good front and shoulders. Lovely reach of neck carrying grand head and correct eyes. Perfect digging, arched and padded feet. His coat was correct in type, colour and length. He truly sparkled like the star he will become. Reserve BIS was the miniature longhaired bitch, the beautiful champion Shenaligh Sweet Surprise. She certainly was a delightful surprise to go over;  lovely construction all through, good length and quality of ribbing. excellent sound movement in all ways. Good front and shoulders, sweet correct head and eyes. kept her topline throughout and showed with real sparkle. a worthy champion. Best puppy in show was Darsoms Zyjack, another stunner owned by Mrs Dare. A deep shaded red male; what a wonderful prospect for future breeding in standards. I could hardly believe i was lucky enough to be asked to examine two very superb young standards at one show. This puppy has all the excellent points of the best in show winner and will most certainly give his kennelmate a run to gain their titles which they undoubtedly will. Reserve best puppy in show was a lovely red dog, Raline's Here Comes The Sun, owned by the Lockett-Walters. Very pleasing overall, good ribbing, front and shoulders, he moved with zest and kept his topline throughout. A youngster with a promising future.
